    Brief Industrial Profile of Hissar District

    1. General Characteristics of the District

    Hissar district of Haryana was founded by Feroz Shah Tuglak in the year 1354 it was

    made as an advance fort with four gaint gates popularly known as Nagori gate, Mori gate,

    Delhi gate & Talaqui gate. It is the oldest district carves at the time of joint Punjab.

    District Hissar is known as a city of steel as one of the biggest producer of stainless steel

    i.e. M/S Jindal Strips Ltd. exists in the district. It is well known as agriculture. Products

    like cotton, rice, wheat and mustard. It has high potentiality of agro based industries.

    1.1 Location & Geographical Area

    The district is located in south western part of Haryana state with geographical location

    between 28degree 59 & 27degree46 North Latitude and 75degree11 & 78degree18

    East Longitude. It is surrounded by Fetahabad district in the North, Bhiwani district in

    South, Jind & Rohtak district in east and Rajasthan in the west. The geographical area of

    the district is 11% of the state.

    1.2 Topography

    Hisar district is an alluvial plain of Indo - Gangetic basin. Except the western part of

    its Hansi & Hissar tehsils. There is no perennial river flowing through the district. Bhakra

    and western Yamuna are two main canals which irrigate most part of the district.

    1.3 Availability of Minerals

    District Hissar is not rich in mineral deposit, only two minerals i.e. saltpeter (potassium

    nitrate) & brick kiln are available in few pockets of area. There are 94 queries of

    saltpeter. Crude saltpeter is generally extracted in the village itself and after this crude

    saltpeter is taken to refinery where pure potassium nitrate is separated. There are about

    200 brick kilns in the district.

    1.4 Forests:

    Total geographical area in the district is 4050Sq.kms.out of this area under forest is 63

    Sq.Kms. This contributes 1.52% of the total area as against the desired level of 2.3%.

    Although district Hissar is agriculture dominated district yet having nominal area in

    forest. Divisional forest office situated at Hissar provide technical knowhow and Haryana

    agricultural university also provides technical know how to the masses with the purpose

    to increase the forest area in the district.

    1.5 Administrative set up.

    Administratively the district is divided into 2 sub divisions, Hansi & Hissar. There are 4

    Tehsils namely Hansi, Narnaund, Hisar & Adampur. There are 3 sub-tehsils viz. Uklana

    mandi, Barwala, Baas. There are nine blocks namely Adampur, Barwala,Baas,

    Hansi,Hisar-I, Hisar-II, Narnund, Agroha and Uklana. There are 275 inhabitated villages

    in the district.
