HOW TECHNOLOGY WORKS
Specialized Wetland Plants
Specialized Microbial Hosting Wetland Matrix (soil substrate in wetland system)
Diverse and Extensive Microbial PopulationsAerobic, Anaerobic and Anoxic based on plants and matrix in our wetland systems.
Ability to provide extensive treatment due to the combination of both natural chemical and biological degradation of contaminants.
Engineered Wetland Solutions
•Plants transfer oxygen and air to their roots
•Bacteria that normally do not live below the ground can live in the soil and roots because of the oxygen
•These bacteria digest and consume the waste as a food source
Engineered Wetland TechnologyPlants and specifically the roots are the key to how it works.

BIOREMEDIATION OF OIL PRODUCED WASTE WATER GREATER NILE PETROLEUM COMPANY
The Engineered Wetland reed bed treatment system is designed to bio-remediate the 50,000m3 of hydrocarbon contaminated water produced within the Heglig oilfield daily.
A further 7 systems have been constructed (2012) to provide treatment for all produced water within the GNPOC concession.

GROUNDWATER REMEDIATION SHALE OIL REFINERY – PUMPHERSTON, SCOTLAND
Our team designed and constructed a wetland reed bed treatment system to remediate the groundwater at a former shale oil refinery and detergents manufacturing facility.
Running and maintenance costs are minimal as reed bed systems are naturally regenerative.
Engineered Wetland Solution Ltd.
Engineered Wetland Solutions Ltd.
Following closure of refinery/chemical works, groundwater arising from the site was continuously polluted by PAH and anionic surfactants.
A reed bed system was installed to continuously treat the groundwater and the treated water is discharged into a Class 1 river.

Proposed Reed Bed Extension
Engineered Wetland Solutions
Reed Bed Extension and LagoonThe proposed extension is 1.2 hectares in area and will consist of an eighth reed bed plus an open water lagoon.
The reed bed will enable remediation of heavily contaminated soils from a nearby site (see photo below):(soil heavily contaminated with tar/PAH
The lagoon will assist with the year round water balance within the reed beds and will provide an additional habitat for wildlife.
Currently awaiting approvals, but due to start construction later this year.
