Industrial Design Minor starting summer 2016 The School of Interior Design is offering a minor in industrial design for all students at the University of Tennessee. Students in the minor will gain introductory experience generating, visualizing, and prototyping innovative concepts. Processes in industrial design are inherently creative and interdisciplinary, blending design, engineering, business, art, humanities, and social sciences. Outcomes of the minor are exposure to basic industrial design processes, introduction to key technological tools, communication techniques, and resolution of real world industrial design issues. The program includes intensive hands on studio projects and requires the use of a laptop computer. Special Note: To complete the minor you will be required to take 3-5 summer courses. Steps for Completing the Industrial Design Minor: 1. See your academic advisor to declare the industrial design minor. 2. Complete Design Thinking 130* or 430 (DSGN 130 / DSGN 430) This course is offered spring and summer terms only. (DSGN 130/439 perquisite waived for 2016 summer participation, the course may be taken at a later date to fulfill the minor requirement.) 3. Enroll in a full time summer sequence of industrial design courses. INDS courses are only offered in the summer. It is best to complete four in one full time summer sequence. 3.
