I have over 23 years of experience in conducting mechanistic studies of thrombosis using murinemodels and clinically-relevant human specimens and am thus equipped to carry out theproposed experiments. The focus of my graduate research work and during the post doctoraltraining was to understand the mechanism of thrombosis in diseases such as Budd Chiarisyndrome or in cardiovascular risk factors related to hyperhomocysteinemia and oxidativestress. Later, towards developing my independent research direction, I demonstrated thatmurine aging is associated with increased oxidative stress mediated platelet activation andthrombosis. Currently, I am funded through National Institute of Aging, NIH, to explore therole of NADPH oxidase as mechanisms of oxidative stress induced platelet activation in elderly. It is recognized that the morbidity and mortality in the elderly most likely results from riskfactors encountered in mid-life adults, and since these risk factors may predict chronic diseasecondition in later life, an early identification of such predictors may help to optimize methodsto manage or prevent chronic conditions later in life. The current application is built to developinnovative datathat how platelets metabolic programming changes in mid-life adults andwhether presence of pre-diabetes exacerbate these effects. Here, I apply my extensiveexperience in studies of platelets and thrombosis to address the important question of pre-diabetes mediated exacerbation of platelet activation and thrombosis in mid-life adults. Thefollowing publications are representative of my expertise in these areas:
