Your  Course…  

The  overall  aim  of  this  course  is  to  enable  graduates  to  make  an  effective  contribution  to  the  management  and  administration  of  marketing  within  organisations  through  developing  those  key  skills  and  abilities  considered  to  be  necessary  for  the  management  of  organisations  in  the  future.  

The  course  is  aimed  at  those  students  who  wish  to  pursue  a  career  in  marketing,  However,  this  course  also  provides  a  solid  foundation  in  business  and  management  thus  providing  the  graduate  with  Nlexibility  in  terms  of  their  ultimate  career  options.    It  is  appropriate  for  those  students  who  wish  to  pursue  a  career  in  industry,  commerce,  the  public  sector,  or  the  voluntary  sector.

Timetables  

Personalised  timetables  –  All  Faculties  have  arranged  individual  timetables  

for  incoming  students  and  uploaded  details  onto  the  online  Welcome  system.    

Students  can  download  their  individual  Induction

 timetables  on  their  course  

induction  and  all  events  relevant  to  them  from  the

 online  Welcome.    

Student  Ambassadors,  Events  staff  and  Services  for  Students  staff  will  be  issued  with  USB  wristband  so  they  can  check  an  individual  student’s  timetable.  

Course  timetables  -­‐  Faculties  are  providing  printed  copies  of  all  course  timetables  which  will  be  kept  for  reference  at  each  Student  Hub.

How  many  hours?  

Usually  2.5  hours  of  formal  teaching  per  week  per  module  

4  modules  per  week  =  10  hours  per  week  of  teaching…  

…but  you  are  a  FULL  TIME  student  

Most  of  your  time  should  be  PRIVATE  STUDY  

Put  in  2  hours  of  private  study  for  every  1  hour  taught

Method  of  assessment  varies  by  module  

Types  of  assessment  include…  

Written  coursework  (essays  and  reports)  

There  can  be  more  than  one  assessment  per  module  

Marks  are  then  added  together  for  a  total  module  m

ark    

You  MUST  submit  for  every  assessment  in  every  m

odule  

Exam  (usually  with  essay  style  answers  to  questions  

Presentations  (sometimes  in  groups)  

Research  projects  (with  written  report)

Use  the  feedback  you  get…  

Feedback  comes  in  lots  of  different  ways  

Use  the  feedback  from  last  year’s  assignments  to  help  you  focus  on  what  

you  can  do  to  improve  your  marks  this  year  

Complete  the  request  form  and  get  assignments  back  from

If  you  don’t  understand  the  feedback,  discuss  with  the  person  who  marked  your  assignment  

Make  sure  you  collect  all  your  Semester  1  assignments  an

d  feedback

What  the  marks  mean…  

70+  is  a  1st…  this  is  excellent  work  

60  –  69  is  a  2:1…  this  is  very  good  work  

50  –  59  is  a  2:2…  this  is  good  work  but  a  little  simplistic  

40  –  49  is  a  3rd…  this  work  is  adequate    -­‐  minimum  level  to  pass  

Less  than  40  is  a  fail  

Marks  will  be  deducted  for  late  sub

missions

How  to  pass  Year  2  (L5)  

MUST  have  an  average  mark  of  at  least  40  across  ALL  6  modules  

MUST  obtain  a  mark  of  at  least  30  in  the  remaining    module  

MUST  have  submitted  for  every  assessment  for  every  module  

MUST  achieve  a  pass  (40  or  more)  in  at  least  5  modules  

Can  “fail”  one  module  but  fail  mark  must  be  between  30  -­‐  39  

Non-­‐submission  of  ANY  assessment  or  component  results  in  

failing  the  year

All  your  second  year  module  results  contribute  25%  towards  

your  Ninal  degree  descriptor  (1st,  2:1,  2:2,  3rd)  

Future  employees  may  ask  to  see  your  transcript,  which  details

 

all  your  grades  for  every  module  at  all  levels  

To  obtain  a  2:1  you  need  get  marks  of  above  60  for  the  majority  of  modules  

2nd  Year  now  counts…

Failed  a  module?  

If  you  fail  an  assessment  you  can  do  a  resit  

for  Semester  1  modules  this  is  in  April  

You  MUST  take  the  Nirst  resit  opportunity:  

for  Semester  2  modules  this  is  in  July  

You  can  only  resit  an  assessment  ONCE  in  a  year  

Your  resit  mark  will  be  capped  at  40R  

You  cannot  resit  a  module  you  have  passed  

No  resit  exams  are  available  overseas

If  you  have  signiNicant  problems  that  affect  your  ability

Go  to  the  Fresher’s  Events  –  even  though  they’re  not  really  for  you  guys

!  

Make  sure  you  understand  your  timetable  and  start  a  diary  

Don’t  spend  all  your  loan  –  it  has  to  last  a  long  time!  

Put  some  money  aside  to  buy  some  books!
