Building upon the Indo-German partnership, we leverage knowledge exchange and capacities to access global

financial resources around innovations in agriculture value chains and climate action, as well as engage with

private-public platforms for climate negotiations and pro-poor development (GIAE, IGEP-RA, CCKN-IA, GCM,

ProSoil, CSUB, CMPA and I-CCC)

We promote knowledge and skills for climate resilient agriculture and the management of marine protected

areas (GIAE, ProSoil, CMPA and CCKN-IA)

Given that India currently generates 144,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day, we enhance usage of

alternative waste management solutions such as organic fertilisers or refuse-derived fuels, and support our

partners in accessing climate finance sources (NAMA and GCM)

Women constitute 72% of Indian agricultural labour force – by empowering them we ensure their increasing participation in natural resource planning and adoption

of sustainable soil management practices, providing access to agricultural knowledge, and through improved

outreach for forest ecosystem services (ProSoil, MGNREGA-EB, UPNRM, CCA-NER, CCKN-IA,

CCA-RAI and HP-FES)

We promote conservation and sustainable use of marine

biodiversity along India’s 7,000 km coastline and support decision making for effective regulation of marine

fisheries (CMPA and TEEB)

With three biodiversity hotspots located in India, we are committed to promote sustainable forest and agricultural management, mainstream biodiversity and values of ecosystem services, implement Access and Benefit Sharing mechanisms and introduce

sustainable approaches for soil protection and rehabilitation (NAMA, ProSoil, ABS, HP-FES, CCA-NER and TEEB & IBBI)

Eleven ongoing projects with the focus on Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resource Management support India’s commitment in achieving 12 out of 17 goals and 46 out of 169 targets. The “cake” visualizes how the SDGs are aligned to the three interdependent dimensions of sustainable development: environment, society and economy. The size of each “cake piece” represents the contribution of the 11 projects towards 12 goals. The environment is determining human prosperity by its planetary boundaries and therefore is a crucial foundation for the world’s successful transition towards a sustainable future!

In India, private sector participation in climate action is key – but not yet sufficiently practiced. The solution is to promote inclusive, sustainable industrial and economic development as well as alternative business models through innovative financing, reporting and communication (GCM and IBBI)

We increase employment in agricultural value chains and natural resource related business through innovative financial products and mainstreaming of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the private sector (UPNRM, RIICE, GIAE and IBBI & TEEB)

With 400 million people in India living in extreme poverty, we support national flagship programmes that aim to increase income and improve livelihoods via climate resilient agriculture practices (UPNRM, MGNREGA-EB, CCA-NER, RIICE, ABS, HP-FES and CCKN-IA, ProSoil and GIAE)

With 200 million people undernourished in India, we support National and State governments, including the North Eastern Region, to eradicate hunger and increase food security through sustainable land use practices and innovations in the agriculture and food sector (ProSoil, CCA-NER, GIAE, CCKN-IA, RIICE, UPNRM and ABS)

To meet India’s rising demand for water, we support integrated natural resource management planning and implementation approaches for development of water resources (MGNREGA-EB, CCA-NER and CCA-RAI)

With India being one of the countries hit hardest by climate change, we support the implementation of the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution and its State Action Plans for Climate Change by expanding technical knowledge on climate change, introducing knowledge management tools on climate resilient agriculture practices, promoting climate resilient livelihoods and technological options as well as supporting access to (inter)national climate funds (CCA-RAI, NAMA, CCKN-IA, CCA-NER, ProSoil, GCM, I-CCC, MGNREGA-EB, UPNRM and CSUB)
