INDIVIDUAL PROPOSALA2 MEDIA STUDIES –Aoife Ranyell

BAND/PERFORMER:The band/performer that I have chosen for my individual proposal for my coursework is maroon 5. I have chosen Maroon 5 because I believe that It would be easier to create a digipak based around a band rather than based around a single artist.

The band maroon 5 was formed in 1997 and has been producing records and albums ever since. Their songs are all written by the band members themselves and they are based on events that have happened in their own lives, meaning that their songs all have a strong narrative point which is one of the main reasons that I have chosen them as a band. Because of the strong narrative in all of their songs, I believe that I would be able to come up with a more convincing narrative in the music video than most other songs that are written by other people and then bought by artists.

One of my other possible choices for my individual proposal was the artist years and years. I was going to choose years and years because of their music type, it is fast, upbeat and modern however ideally I would like to create a narrative based music video and their songs (while written by themselves) are not as story based and do not have as much of a clear narrative. This is clear In their previous music videos that they have created where most of the video consists of artistic shots and lip syncing. Also another one of the reasons that I did not choose Years & Years was because they are one of my favourite bands and I did not want to get bored of them.

SONG:Song for music video:The song that I have chosen to do for my music video is the song:“Maps” By Maroon 5. the song was taken of off their latest album: V.I have decided to use this song for my music video because it has a good, easy to follow narrative, the beat and the actual song is catchy and the lyrics are relatively simple (for the audience’s purposes and for the actor who will have to learn them).

MUSIC VIDEO: Starts and ends in the same place, similar to the music

video to Maps. Because the narrative at first shows how the story will end and then shows the build up to that.

Various locations used, not just all shot in one place. Fast paced to keep the audience interested in the

video, if it is slow then people will begin to get bored. Make sure the video has a narrative to it. Some of it

will be lip syncing and artistic shots too. Have various people included in the narrative but you

have to make sure that the narrative is simple enough for the audience to follow but not too simple that the audience will get bored.

CD/DVD:For the accompanying DVD I have decided to include:

Live covers by the band. These covers will be filmed at the same time and will have basically no editing to them so they are as real and natural as possible.

Unseen footage of the band on tour, backstage footage.

Interviews with the band members about what being in the band is like, how they get along with the other members, what they get up to on tour etc.
