Indigenous Language Fluency Certificate Nuu-chah-nulth Language

Explore Indigenous language through this unique certificate program. You’ll draw on local Indigenous knowledge systems, ways of knowing, and protocols through experiential and land-based learning to explore the values and beliefs encoded in Indigenous language. This cohort based program will help you to unearth the understanding of how language forms the foundation of all Indigenous relationships. The framework for the certificate will support the infusion of culture into language learning and draw on local fluent elders and knowledge keepers. The program is built on a multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary, intergenerational process and offers an opportunity for students to gain an understanding of the integral link between language, culture and wellness. Students will achieve an intermediate level of proficiency in their Indigenous languages during first year of the program and will also have the opportunity to apply their language skills. Delivery will include a combination of digital learning with occasional face-to-face gatherings.

Admission Requirements C in English 12 or equivalent

This program will include an option to enroll in ENG 096 if students do not meet the ENG 12 admission requirement. Student will need to submit transcripts or complete an assessment to ensure they meet the pre-requisite for ENG 096.

Indigenous Language Fluency Certificate – Nuu-chah-nulth

The Indigenous Language Fluency Certificate will be delivered via a blend of digital delivery, and occasional face-to-face gatherings each semester, with locations to be determined.

Digital classes will be delivered via Bluejeans, a videoconferencing platform. Students will need to have access to a computer/laptop with internet access.
