THE EXACT STEP-BY-STEPFORMULA RESPONSIBLE
FOR DOZENS OF BIGMONEY KICKSTARTER AND
INDIEGOGO PROJECTS!
1. Use Trello.com to set up your crowdfunding project. Trello will keep you
organized by allowing you to create tasks, assign team members, create due
dates, and store files. After having done dozens of crowdfunding campaigns,
I can’t imagine doing a campaign without this free tool.
2. Conduct a feasibility study.
I look for other campaigns to
see what’s been done, how
much they were asking for, how
much they raised, what the
average pledge was and what
the most claimed perk ended
up being.
3. Choose your platform.
The only two platforms I’d go
with are Indiegogo and
Kickstarter. There are pros
and cons to each but let me
say I really like Indiegogo
better for a number of
reasons.
4. Set up an email service. The only 3 I use are Aweber, GetResponse,
and Mailchimp. This tool will allow you to mass email all of the people you
will be collecting email addresses for.

4. Set up and autoresponder. An autoresponder is a message or series of
messages that go out automatically once someone signs up to learn more
about your project.
5. Set up a MixMax.com
account. I use this because I
can track and see if journalists
are opening my emails and a lot
more cool stuff.
7. Create graphics of your
product/service/or film. There
are several very good photo
editing tools online that are
cheap or free. There are also
TONS of cheap graphic
designers if you know where
to look.
6. Build a list of media contacts. Find out who wrote about similar projects
and competitors. Pull their email addresses and put them on a
spreadsheet. We’ll pitch them later.

8. Build landing page. Whenever I launch a project, I always collect
thousands of emails before hitting the launch button. Indiegogo created this
little calculator to give you a good idea of how many emails you are going to
need before launching. http://bit.ly/iggcalc
9. Build press kit. A well
designed press kit will enable
you to get many well written
articles for your campaign.
MOST reporters won''t even
contact you after you pitch.
They’ll just look at your press
kit, and write an article!
11. Create/launch
Facebook ads. I like using
Facebook ads because I can
get LASER targeted on who
I'm targeting and they're
highly effective if done right.
10. Create a Facebook page. 90% of the traffic that comes to your
campaign will come from Facebook. I typically only spend my time doing
social posts on Facebook and not Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, or other.

12. Create a call to action on Facebook. This is one of the easiest things to
do but most do not do it. Facebook allows you to create a call to action on
top of your page. I link this to my landing page to turn likes into emails.
13. Develop a Facebook
posting strategy. I post 4-5
times a day and mostly
comprise it of pictures my
audience will like.
15. Write media pitches.
Media pitches should be
clear, concise, and to the
point in order to be effective.
14. Create perks. Refer to your feasibility study to identify what perks and
price ranges work best. Coolest perks

16. Create campaign page. When writing your page, you should think of it
as supporting the video. Use it to answer questions your customer is going to
ask you. I like to make my pages consist of 70% images and 30% text. No
one wants to read a long letter!
17. Pitch under embargo.
About 2-3 weeks before launch
I begin pitching under embargo.
That means requesting a
reporter to hold the news of
your launch until launch date.
This way you go live with
articles day one.
19. Announce early bird
discount. 48 hours from
launch email all your email
subscribers and let them
know about any early bird
perks they can get.
18. Shoot/edit video. The video should tell your message in a simple way.
You can get as creative as you like but make sure you at least show the
product in the first 30 seconds.

20. Press reminder. Remind all press that has committed that they’d write
that you are launching in two days. Also use this email as an opportunity for
them to ask you any final questions, request additional images, etc..
21. Make campaign live! Whoohoo! You did it. Now you need to let
everyone know
*Alert the press who have precommitted
*Email all email subscribers
*Use Greeninbox.com to message all your personal FB, Linkedin, and
Gmail contacts.
24. Pitch with no embargo.
Keep pitching the media
throughout the campaign.
I’ve seen one article on
TechCrunch that was written
4 days before a campaign
ended bring in $100,00 by
itself!
23. Redirect ads. Instead of sending
people who click on your Facebook
ads to your landing page send them
to your campaign instead.
