HISTORY OF THE LABEL

XL records is a successful independent British music

record label which was founded by Richard Russell

rave and dance music, along with some techno

tracks as well.

Over the years the label has work with several

worldwide artist such as Adele, Tyler the creator and

Dizzee Rascal.

FINANCES WITHIN THE LABEL

A high percentage of XL Records recent income has been due to

Adele.

The company enjoy a substantial £12 million dividend in 2014, even

though Adele’s latest album was released nearly 4 years ago.

Company owner Richard Russell, along with business partner

Martin Mills’ (Owner of Beggars Group) have shared money along

the regions of £53 million in dividends since mid 2011, the same

time Adele’s album 21 became one the best selling albums of all

time.

However in the last 3 years turnover has fell. 2011 was the biggest

year in the companies history as a turnover of £111.7 million

occurred. That dropped to £79.6 million in 2012, while in 2013 it

dropped again to £37.5 million. Profits are now due to drop again

according to operating profits.

WEBSITE DESIGN

The homepage of their website is plain in terms of colour and font. However the set out is a little unorthodox due to the picture layout and the pictures selected. On the left hand side of the page they have listed different categories of the website in which you can visit. Below that you have the mainstream artists that are signed to the record label. Furthermore right at the bottom of the page you have the social media links to the label in which you can visit and follow them for updates on the label and artists singed to the label.

AIMS AND ETHOS

XL recordings aim to give artist freedom to create whatever music they like within reason. Furthermore, its against their ethos to retain artists from producing music and not taking full credit.
