Conventions of the ‘Indie’ Genre
There are a lot of close up shots to represent emotion. Normally the artists are singing about something that is close to them, therefore the video which uses close-ups emphasises this. When there are long shot it’s to show the location. Often the video changes scene 3 o4 times , and if they are outside then it’s the artist walking around the streets.
The song ‘Maverick Sabre-Look what I’ve done’ is classed as part of the genre of indie, soul and RnB. I’m going to research into the main conventions of Indie.
A lot of the songs have strong meanings. Facial expressions show this, another way that does this Is black/white. As the colour is mono-tone, the video has a sad presence. The clothing is casual and the artists aren’t dressed up into a sort of costume, they look as if they are wearing what they would if they weren’t on camera.
Scene’s are normally dark/shadowy or made to look as if the lighting would normally be like that (As If they haven’t added extra light). In a lot of the videos the artist/ performer isn’t singing at the camera. Therefore it seems that in the video, they are support to act like the camera isn’t there. Not obviously performing kind of effect.
