INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE STANDINGS INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS GAME NOTES A HISTORIC NIGHT: LHP Justin Wilson allowed just one walk and zero hits while facing the minimum number of batters in an eight-inning, rain-shortened no-hitter on Thursday night at Victory Field ... Charlotte CF Dewayne Wise drew a walk to end Wilson’s bid at perfection in the top of the seventh inning, but Wilson immediately induced a double play on the next pitch ... Wilson then braved a rainy top of the eighth before the game was called and he came away with the first no-hitter at Victory Field since RHP Ian Snell no-hit the Norfolk Tides on 5/15/05 ... The southpaw also had five strikeouts in the contest and now ranks second in the International League with 126 on the season ... It was the second no-hitter that Wilson (9-5, 3.88 ERA) has been a part of this season: On 5/29 in Durham, Wilson tossed the first 7.1 innings as he, RHP Jose Diaz and LHP Doug Slaten combined to no-hit the Bulls ... By taking part in two no-hitters this season, Wilson became just the fourth pitcher in International League history to be a part of two no-hitters in a single season and the first since Earl Harrist tossed two nine-inning no-nos for Syracuse in 1946 TRIBE TRENDS: Thanks to Wilson’s brilliant no-hit performance the Indians enter the current series in Columbus with a nine-game lead over the second place Clippers, who fell to Durham 12-2 on Thursday night ... The Indians hope to bounce back from earlier struggles this season at Huntington Park where they have gone 2-5 TONIGHT’S TRIBE STARTER: Defending International League Pitcher of the Week, RHP Rick VandenHurk will take the mound for the Indians in the series opener tonight ... He comes into the game with an 11-3 record and 3.334 ERA ... His team-leading 11 wins place Vandenhurk in a four-way tie for the second-most in the International League, trailing only Syracuse Chiefs and former Indianapolis RHP Zach Duke (12) ... He also made one start for the Class-A Bradenton Marauders and is 12-3 with a 3.50 ERA overall in 2012 ... VandenHurk has won two straight starts ... In his most recent start, 8/5 at Rochester against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, VandenHurk picked up the win on 7.0 innings with four hits (one home run), two earned runs, two walks and seven strikeouts ... VandenHurk last faced the Clippers on 7/15 at Victory Field, picking up the win on 6.0 innings, six hits, two earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts ... Vanden- Hurk’s most recently started in Columbus on 7/8 and suffered his first loss of the season, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing five hits (one home run), seven runs (five earned) and five walks while striking out six Clippers TONIGHT’S CLIPPERS STARTER: RHP Roberto Hernandez makes just his second start for Columbus ... On 7/31 against Rochester, Hernandez took a no decision on 5.0 innings pitched, allowing nine hits, five earned runs, two walks, two strikeouts and one wild pitch ... In his most recent start, 8/5 against South Bend, Hernandez suffered the loss, tossing 7.1 innings and allowing six hits (four home runs), four earned runs and one walk while striking out nine Silver Hawks MAJOR LEAGUE MATCHUP: Both VandenHurk and Hernandez have spent significant time in the major leagues ... While parts of four seasons with the then-Florida Marlins and parts of the past two seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, VandenHurk is 8-10 in 46 big league appearances (35 starts) with a 5.97 career ERA ... Hernandez, meanwhile, spent part or all of six seasons with the Cleveland Indians under the assumed name Fausto Carmona before being ar- rested in his native Dominican Republic in January and charged with identification fraud ... As Carmona, Hernandez went 53-66 with a 4.59 ERA in 181 games (150 starts) for Cleveland, tossing seven complete games and three shutouts HE’S GRRRREAT: In addition to catching Wilson’s no-hitter on Thursday night, C Tony Sanchez provided the southpaw with all of the offense needed, and then some, going 1-for-3 with two RBI ... In 45 games with the Indians, Sanchez now has 17 RBI and 14 runs scored YAMAICO ME CRAZY: 3B Yamaico Navarro went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two runs scored in Thursday night’s win ... In his past 10 games, Navarro is batting .303 (10-for-33) with three doubles, one triple, one home run, five RBI and four runs scored SUDDENLY, SUTTON: LF Drew Sutton got off the schnied in a big way on Thursday night, following Navarro’s triple with an RBI double, Sutton’s first hit since joining the Indians ... The RBI proved to be the game-winner as Wilson shutdown the Charlotte offense ... Sutton finished the game 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI ...
