ISM is the place where students’ curiosity can be at the forefront of
Science, Technology and Innovation.
They are inspired to explore their passion and showcase their innovative
ideas.
Indian School Muscat family proudly announces the launch of the mega
event STAI – 2018. (Science, Technology and Innovation)
This mega event consists of three categories. The three categories are
sub-divided into 25 events.
It has always been the main focus of ISM to provide a conducive
environment for the learners of all categories with various talents and
skills.
ISM requests all students, teachers and parents from Indian Schools to
make use of this opportunity to nourish and nurture their scientific,
technological and innovative ideas.

All participants of various events should be present in the
venues well on time and in civil dress.
The participants’ school identity should not be revealed at any
point of time till the results of the event are declared.
Participants’ Dress code - decent casual / formal.
In the events which have more than 10 participating schools or
entries, the BEST FIVE will be recognised. If there are less
than 10 but more than 5 participating schools or entries then
BEST THREE will be recognised.
Rules and Regulations of Events
Event – MYRIADS
(Innovators & Inventors)
Description of the event (On the spot event)
An object will be provided to each team. The team must use this object for
explaining or demonstrating as many scientific concepts or principles as possible.
Eg Object – tissue paper. The concepts that could be demonstrated are
translucency, absorption, air resistance etc.
General Guidelines
This event is conducted in two categories. Innovators of classes 9 & 10 and
Inventors of classes 11 & 12.
Only one team comprising of two students can participate from a school for
each category.
Participants should use only the materials supplied by the organisers.
Same object will be provided to all the teams.
The experiments / demonstrations done with the given object should be
clearly linked with the concept the team is trying to explain.
Each team will be given a total of 15 minutes. (5minutes preparation,
5 minutes for demonstration and 5 minutes for Question & Answer by the
judges).
Demonstration and Question & Answer can be performed by either of the
participants.
Second team will be given their object(s) when the first team is in the last
five minutes of their allotted time.
All participants shall be briefed before the commencement of the event.
Dress code for the participants casual / formal.
Identity of the school should not be disclosed by the participants.
Judgement criteria
Concept Each concept derived from the given object carries one point.( any
number of concepts can be demonstrated)
Presentation 10 points, Quality of answers/ Viva voce 10 points
The total points will depend on the number of concepts demonstrated.
Event – DEBUG
(Spot the Errors – Innovators & Inventors)
Description of the event
Video of experiments or slides of statements will be displayed to the
participants. Each experiment will have one or more introduced errors. Participants
must identify the error/ errors in each experiment and write down the same. They
must also write the scientific reason justifying the error.
General guidelines
This event is conducted in two categories INNOVATORS category for
students of classes 9 & 10 and INVENTORS category for students of
classes 11 & 12.
Only one team comprising of two students can participate from a school for
each category.
Videos of experiments or slides of statements will be shown.
There will be a gap of 2 minutes after each video or slide, during which the
participants need to find error/errors and state the scientific reason or the
correct statement.
Any error pointed out should have a valid reason to be considered as an
error.
There can be more than one error in the experiment/ statement.
Judgement Criteria
Identifying error one point for each error.
Reason Two points for each reason.
Total 3 Points for each error
Event – REFLECTIONS
(Street Play based on SCIENCE)
General Guidelines
Only one team comprising of maximum of 10 students, from each
participating school(s) is allowed.
Any requirements for lighting equipment should be informed along with the
confirmation letter. The participating schools should arrange for their own
props.
The medium of language for presentation is English.
Each team is allowed a maximum of 10 minutes. A warning bell will be
sounded at the end of 9 minutes followed by the final bell on completion of
10 minutes.
An extra 3 minutes is allotted to each team for setting up the stage.
There will be negative points for exceeding the time limit. 2 points for each
extra minute taken.
Reading/referring of script will not be permitted during the play.
The decision of the judges is final and binding.

Voice modulation / Facial expression / Poise / Body language 10 marks
Set design & props used 10 marks

Event – SCIDUEL
(SCIENCE DEBATE – Innovators & Inventors)
General Guidelines
Debate is conducted in two categories - INNOVATORS category for students of
classes 9 & 10 and INVENTORS category for students of classes 11 & 12.
Motion for Innovators A World without Plastic – Fact or Fantasy?
Motion for Inventors Humans are the only self-destructive creatures in this
planet – Agree or Disagree?
Two contestants for each category can participate from each school.
The first speaker will give his thoughts ‘for’ the topic and the second
speaker will give his thoughts against the topic
Each speaker is given 5 minutes for speech +1 minute for rebuttal
maximum. A warning bell will be sounded at the end of 4 minutes and the
final bell at the end of 5 minutes.
The 1-minute rebuttal will be based on questions put forward by the
opposing teams who are free to question the speaker on his /her views.
During rebuttal, only two questions may be asked to the speaker. The Jury as
well as the Chair Person may pose a question if required.
No participant is allowed to question a member of his/ her own school.
Occasional referring of points will be permitted. But reading from a script is
not permitted.
All participants shall be briefed before the commencement of the event.
Dress code for the participants’ smart casuals.
Identity of the school should not be disclosed by the participants.
Language used for the debate should be English.

Event Sci-Fi-Hero Comic Strip
(Ignitors and Innovators)
General Instructions
This is an on the spot event in which students will prepare a comic strip
narrating a small science based story.
Only one team from each school for each category consisting of two
students is allowed.
Rules and Regulations
The story has a hero/heroine who has special powers scientifically defined.
The story should be given an appropriate title.
The participants can bring the paper cutouts of the Comic Hero and other
characters, as many as required for the preparation of the comic strip.
Comic strips will be prepared at the venue. Participants will be writing the
dialogues during the preparation. No other printed dialogues will be
allowed)
Participants will be provided with A-3 sheets in which they will paste their
comic characters and prepare.
The Comic Hero should be a novel creation. Existing familiar characters
should not be used for the competition.
Inappropriate content will not be permitted. There should be no violence
depicted in any part of the story.

Event – Best Movie Scene Correction Clip
General Guidelines
This event is conducted for all the three categories.
A team of 2 students is allowed for INNOVATORS from the participating schools.
A series of movie clips/slides will be shown to the participants with a gap of
one minute between each clip. Participants are expected to identify the scientific fault/error involved in the
clip/slide. They are given two minutes time in between two clips to write down their
points and the correction suggested by them.
Rules and Regulations
No electronic devices will be brought by the students. Participant should not be critical about any irrelevant topics from the scenes
shown to them. They will focus only on the scientific and technical errors appearing in the
movie clip/slide shown. No video clip/slide will be shown for the second time. At the end of the time provided, all participants should submit their
responses to the coordinator without any delay. Comments or corrections can be humourous without offending any
individual or group. Judgement Criteria
Identifying Correct Errors 5 points for each error.
Scientific correction or suggestion 5 points for each correction.
Event – Science Spell Bee
(Ignitors and Innovators)
General Instructions
This event will be conducted for two categories - Ignitors and Innovators.
Rules will be followed as per the standard Spell bee events.
Only one student will be registering for each category from the participating
school.
Words will be dictated by the judges. Definition or meaning of the word will
also be given.
Student who gives the correct spelling of the given word will be qualified for
further rounds.
As per the rules designed by the judges, rounds may start with 3 or 4 lettered
words and step by step, number of letters will be increased in the given
words.
For all rounds, judges’ decision will be final.
