    INDIAN POLITICAL SYSTEM

Leaders are elected by the people, of the peopleand for the people.

The word for the people is slowly losingconviction as the leaders today are more self

centered, think about personal gains. They shy away from putting country before self-

A requisite for a good political leader.

    POLITICAL CRISIS

More than two-thirds of MPs aged under 40 arehereditary.

27 MPs are hyperhereditary, and 19 of them arein a National Ruling Party. By hyperhereditary,

Unfortunately, the so-called young guns of Indian politics havedone themselves few favors by remaining prisoners of their lineagebut offering little else by way of fresh ideas.

A number of them are democratic dynasts, sons and daughters ofpoliticians who see electoral politics as an extension of their family

    fiefdom.

Blessed with an exaggerated sense of entitlement, we rarely seethem speak out in Parliament, take up socially-relevant issues orgive us a sense of what they stand for.

If our young leaders claim to represent young India, then why dontwe see them take up issues that directly impinge on generationnext: jobs, education, corruption, environment, morality, AIDS, evengay rights.

When the Article 377 judgment was delivered in the Delhi High Court,we didnt hear a squeak from our younger MPs, almost suggesting an

We have to suffer the aged and the infirm in theIndian polity because of the absence of a credible

second rung leadership in almost all the parties. The reason for this is not far to seek corruptionand moral decadence in politics discouragepotential aspirants from jumping into the fray.

Indian Government refuses to constitute a joint

    last parliamentary session).

Classic example of collusion betweenpoliticians, industrialists and media with high

No tolerance for corruption or deception? Govtrefused Joint Parliamentary committee because based

on proportion of MPs there will be majorityrepresentatives from other parties who will be able

expose those who actually received money anddeposited in swiss and other safe havens? Who are

CONCLUSION There is no one who is willing to articulate a view of India and

Indian-ness with clarity and force so that the country can cometogether and make the sacrifices needed to build a new India that

the framers of the Constitution imagined. But for that to happen the relationship between bullet and ballot

    must end.

Only by empowering the common man and involving them in

decision making can lead to better representation. We have the flaws but fail to implement but if we correct this we

would lay strong foundations for pillars of sound political system.
