INFORMATION AND RULES OF VARIOUS AWARDS OF IAVA

Memorial and Endowment Lectures during National Conventions

A memorial lecture in the names of Dr C. V. Kanan and Dr C. Vijayaragavan and an

Endowment Lecture in the name of Dr.R.K.Ghosh are delivered by eminent Scientists after

every two years during National Conventions of IAVA after the Inaugural Session. The

speakers are selected and invited by Organizing Committee from nearby Institute. IAVA

felicitates the speaker and presents a shield. From 2015 onwards starting with Durg

Convention Dr.C.Vijayaragavan Memorial Lecture, Dr.R.K.Ghosh Endowment Lecture and

Dr.C.V.Kannan Memorial Lecture will be delivered in sequential years. Arrangements for

felicitations and Honorarium of Rs.2100/- for speakers for above lectures shall be made by

IAVA during respective years

1. Dr. C.V. KANAN MEMORIAL LECTURE

Dr C. V. Kanan

(1919-1988)

Dr C. V. Kanan was born on August 23, 1919 in Hyderabad. He graduated from Bombay

Veterinary College(1944). He received Ph. D. in Anatomy(1957) from Royal College of

Veterinary Science, Edinburgh.He has served in various capacities at Anatomy Departments

of Hyderabad, Sudan and Saudi Arabia. He passed away on July 8, 1988 at Hyderabad. He

has published more than 50 research papers and a book on the Osteology and Arthrology of

Bovines. Mrs. Kanan Donated money to the IAVA for Memorial Lecture in his name after his

death and since 1990 lecture is being organized and is delivered after every two years.

2. Dr. C. VIJAYARAGAVAN MEMORIAL LECTURE

Dr C. Vijayaragavan

(1940-2003)

Dr.C.Vijayaragavan was born on 4th December, 1940 in Tamilnadu. He graduated from

Madras Veterinary College (1964) and completed M. V. Sc in Anatomy (1966) from same

institute. He did is Ph. D. from College of Veterinary Science, Hyderabad ( 1989). He was

also the Secretary of IAVA from 1995 to 1997. Dr Vijayaragvan was a sincere, brilliant

,kind hearted ,highly respected teacher and loved by everyone. He has guided many

M. V. Sc. and Ph. D students and published many papers. His students, friends, department

colleagues and family members sponsored two medals and a memorial lecture in his name.

The Memorial Lecture in his name was started during Silver Jubilee Convention in year 2010

at Puducherry and is delivered after every two years.

3. Dr. R.K. Ghosh Endowment Lecture

Dr.R.K.Ghosh donated an amount of Rs.25000/- in the year 2014 for instituting an

endowment lecture.The lecture is delivered after every two years. Professor Ranajit Kumar

Ghosh worked as a teacher in Veterinary Anatomy for 38 years in various capacities in the

College of Veterinary Sciences, West Bengal. He had BVSc&AH from Calcutta University

(1972)., MVSc from G B Pant University of Agri. & Tech, Pantnagar ( 1978) and PhD from

Calcutta University (1989).He was Head of the Department of Anatomy for more than 10

years and worked as Registrar of the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences,

Kolkata for 2.5 years. He Authored the books: Primary Veterinary Anatomy( which is on

gross comparative anatomy of domestic animals was first published in 1995. Now 5th

edition

has been published in 2012 and is widely used by the students (UG and PG) in the field of

veterinary anatomy throughout the country) and Essentials of Veterinary Histology and

Embryology (which has been published in 2013 by re-crusting the book, “Essentials of

veterinary embryology” which was published earlier by him in 2002.He has published 44

research articles in national and international journals. He has guided a good number of PG

students not only of Veterinary anatomy but also of Medical Anatomy (MD). He also guided

3 PhD scholars .Prof. Ghosh have organized and actively participated a good number of

seminars and conferences in Veterinary Anatomy as well as in Medical Anatomy during his

service period. He Received Life time achievement award( 2013) of Indian Association of

Veterinary Anatomists, ICAR junior fellowship ( 1976).During his graduation he was

awarded with a silver medal as best man of 3rd

year class.

Awards of IAVA presented during inaugural function

1. Life Time Achievement Award

This award was instituted by IAVA in the year 2004 during Kolkata Convention. It is given to

an eminent Anatomist who is Life Member of IAVA actively involved in all IAVA activities

and served the Anatomy discipline throughout his/her life. Generally it is given to Anatomists

on retirement. The nomination is considered and approved by Executive of IAVA. The

recipient is given Rs 1000/- in cash by IAVA to meet with expenses for receiving the award

personally. The award carries a laminated certificate and a gold plated silver medal which will

be presented during Inaugural Session of the Symposium.

2. Fellow member of Indian Association of Veterinary Anatomists (Fellow IAVA- IAVA)

The Life Member who has given prominent, active and continuous services to IAVA and to

the Anatomy discipline is honored with this Award. There are certain criteria for selection and

the member has to apply in proper Proforma(Annexure) to the Secretary, IAVA. The

Secretary shall invite the applications.The applications will be referred to three members for

evaluation. The award is presented during Inauguration Function of National Symposium. The

number of Fellowships conferred per year shall be three.

Some of the basic requirements are:

� The applicant must have been a life member of IAVA for at least ten years.

� The member must have attended 9 National Conventions, Symposia or seminar

organized under auspices of IAVA including mid annual conventions

� The applicant must be a doctorate.

� The applicant must be in Associate Professor and above cadre or should have put in a

minimum of 12 years of teaching and research experience and published good

number of papers in Anatomy

� The applicant if selected has to receive the award personally during National

Convention

� The Administrative charges of Rs.2000/- are collected from recipient to meet with

the expenses of the award

� The award carries a certificate and a gold plated silver medal which will be presented

during Inaugural Session of the Symposium.

3. Dr. V. R. BHAMBURKAR IAVA SILVER JUBILEE AWARD & MEDAL FOR

VETERINARY ANATOMIST OF THE YEAR

As one of the most active members of IAVA Dr.Bhamburkar is responsible in making IAVA

as one of the best managed and active Associations in India. He was the Secretary of IAVA

for two terms and President for one term. He along with his team straightened lots of difficult

situations faced by IAVA and even after retirement as Dean of Nagpur Veterinary College

remained most active member attending all events of IAVA with extraordinary zeal. He

contributed to IAVA for institution of this Award to recognize the achievements of

Anatomist at national level. The Life member has to apply in proper Proforma to the

Secretary ,IAVA(Annexure).The Secretary shall invite the applications.The senior Life

members also can propose the names of any deserving persons by mailing their biodata to

Secretary since some of the highly deserving candidates may not be inclined to apply.The

recipient is decided from the applications/proposals received during the year by a three

member committee appointed by President and Secretary of IAVA. The award carries a

certificate and a gold plated silver medal which will be presented during Inaugural Session of

the Symposium.

1.The award is given only to Members who have been life member of IAVA for at least 10

years.

2.The applicant should have minimum of 20 years of Teaching and Research experience

4. DR (MS) P. S. LALITHA AWARD AND MEDAL FOR THE BEST PAPER

PUBLISHED IN IJVA

Dr P. S. Lalitha is a founder member of IAVA. She was first Treasurer of IAVA and actively

involved in organizing 1st Annual Convention of IAVA in 1983 along with her late husband-

eminent Anatomist Dr V. K. Seshadri and others .She is instrumental in laying foundation of

IAVA. After 34 years of teaching & research in Madras Veterinary College she opted for

voluntary retirement to practice Alternative Medicine. Presently as a Reiki Grand Master she

is practicing alternative medicine in leading hospitals of Chennai. She is still patronizing

IAVA and contributed fund for instituting an Award to encourage the members to publish

their work in IAVA's official Journal - The Indian Journal of Veterinary Anatomy.This Award

is given to the first author of the best Paper published in IJVA.The papers published in issues

of the year preceeding to year of convention are taken into consideration. The award carries a

certificate and a gold plated silver medal which will be presented during Inaugural Session of

the Symposium. The published work will be judged independently by three referees identified

by editor in consultation with the Executive and they will give marks to the individual papers.

Based on their marks the award will be decided. The award is given to Life Members only.

The evaluation criteria of research papers published in Indian Journal of Veterinary Anatomy

shall be as follows.

Rationale of the topic : 10

Originality of research work : 25

Techniques employed : 15

Presentation of data : 20

Quality of photographs/

Photomicrographs/Tables : 20

Recent citation : 10

Regarding evaluation of papers for awarding best paper published in IJVA, the paper

recommended by at least two referees shall only be considered for award . If two papers are

recommended by the referees, then the average will be considered. If one paper is

recommended by two referees and another paper is recommended by all three referees then

the best of two will be considered for the latter for average. If recommendations of both the

referees do not have a common name then the third referee will be requested to evaluate the

papers and so on, if needed

AWARDS OF DIFFERENT SESSIONS OF NATIONAL CONVENTION

(PRESENTED AT PLENARY SESSION)

1. DR. A. M. SRIVASTAVA AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING M. V. SC. RESEARCH

WORK

Dr A. M. Srivastava is founder President of IAVA and along with others he is

instrumental in laying its foundation. He has served the Jabalpur College for many years and

retired as a Dean of the College. He is in his eighties still taking interest in IAVA activities.

He donated money during Jabalpur Symposium in 2006 to institute the awards to encourage

the better research work in post graduation from the year 2007 onwards.One award is given

every year for the M. V. Sc. thesis submitted and awarded in the discipline of Veterinary

Anatomy, Histology and/or Embryology during the previous calendar year from the year of

National Convention.

1. The candidate applying for award must be a life member of IAVA.

2. He should enclose proof from university about year of award of degree.

3. The upper age limit shall be 35 years as on the first day of convention and proof has

to be submitted in this regard.

4. Candidate has to submit one soft copy of entire thesis including graphs, tables, figures

and photographs to the Secretary, IAVA on or before the prescribed time

5. The work will be scrutinized by three member committee appointed by executive of

IAVA and it will screen the proposals and shortlist two best works .The scrutinizing

Committee shall evaluate for a score of 50 as follows and minimum qualifying score

shall be 30.

6. The work of shortlisted candidates shall be presented during convention by the

candidates for a period not exceeding 15 minutes and will be judged by a different

three member committee appointed by executive of IAVA based on which awardee

will be decided. The Committee shall evaluate for a score of 50 as follows.

c).Materials used, Methods and Techniques adopted:5

d).Observations , data Analysis,Illustrations:10

7. The award carries a certificate and a gold plated silver medal which will be presented

during Plenary Session of the Symposium.

2. DR. A. M. SRIVASTAVA AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING PH. D. RESEARCH

WORK

Dr.A.M.Srivastava donated money during Jabalpur Symposium in 2006 to institute

the award to encourage the better research work in post graduation from the year 2007

onwards. One award is given every year for the Ph. D thesis submitted and awarded in the

discipline of Veterinary Anatomy, Histology and/or Embryology during the previous calendar

year from the year of National Convention.

1. The candidate applying for award must be a life member of IAVA.

2. He should enclose proof from university about year of award of degree.

OTHER SESSION AWARDS

The following Awards are sponsored by various senior members for encouraging young

Anatomists. The rules are common for all. The contestant of the award must be a Veterinary

Anatomist and life member of IAVA except in the case of Late Dr.D.S.Grover Memorial

award for clinical Anatomy and multidisciplinary approach for which associate members can

also compete. The work must be concerned with the respective field for which the candidate is

contesting. The person has to inform to the Organizing Secretary in advance regarding

inclusion of it in the specific session while submitting the abstract otherwise the Organizing

Committee will include it as per its discretion.

For all the Session awards the criteria are as follows:

1.The person must be a Life Member of IAVA except in the case of Late Dr.D.S.Grover

Memorial award for clinical Anatomy and multidisciplinary approach for which associate

members can also compete.

2.The medal will be given to the Presenting First Author Only. Hence papers presented by

first author are only considered for awards.

3. The upper Age limit shall be 45 years as on the first day of convention and proof has to

be submitted in this regard.

4. Persons in the cadre of Professors are not eligible for session awards.

5.The presentations will be judged by three member committee consisting of one Senior

Retired Member from delegates and two Senior Members in Active Service as per the

format furnished below.

6. The Lead Papers or Invited Papers will not be considered for the Awards.

7. The work conferred with young scientist award of IAVA /Dr.A.M.Srivastava awards

1. DR G RAJESHWAR RAO MEMORIAL AWARD AND MEDAL FOR“APPLIED

ANATOMY INCLUDING BIOMECHANICS”

This is the first sponsored award instituted by IAVA from Kolkata Convention in Year 2004.

It was sponsored by Dr G. Purushotham Rao, Associate Professor of Anatomy, Veterinary

College, Hyderabad in the name of his Late father Dr G Rajeshwar Rao who was a Veterinary

Physiologist and served the same college.The award was instituted to encourage the work on

Applied Anatomy especially related to Biomechanics of Locomotion.

2. DR MD. HAFEEZUDDIN SILVER JUBILEE MEDALS AND AWARDS FOR THE

BEST PAPERS ONE EACH IN "GROSS ANATOMY" AND "ANATOMY OF WILD

AND ZOO ANIMALS"

Dr Md. Hafeezuddin worked at Anatomy department of Veterinary College Hyderabad for

many years and retired as Professor of Anatomy from same institute in 1990. He has settled in

USA after his retirement from active service and frequently visits India. He is very senior

member of our discipline. While attending Tirupati Convention he was very much impressed

with the presentations by youngsters and expressed his desire to donate for instituting awards

to encourage good work and presentations. Two gold plated silver medals one each for two

different sessions in "Gross Anatomy and "Anatomy of Wild and Zoo Animals" were

introduced from silver jubilee year i.e.2008.

3.DR C. VIJAYARAGAVAN MEMORIAL SILVER JUBILEE MEDAL AND

AWARD FOR THE BEST PAPER IN AVIAN ANATOMY

Dr C. Vijayaragvan has worked on prenatal and postnatal development of thymus in WLH

birds for his Ph. D. thesis. His most of the M. V. Sc and Ph. D. students have worked on

different organs of Avian Species and also on Developmental Anatomy. Hence his

students and colleagues in the department have sponsored two awards in his name- one

each for Avian Anatomy and Developmental Anatomy Sessions

MICROSCOPY

Dr Mohan Bhattacharya is an eminent Anatomist who served as a Professor and Head,

Anatomy at Khanapara Veterinary College, Guwahati for many years. He served as the

Director of Nation Research centre on Yak at Arunachal Pradesh for many years and

retired from this ICAR Institute in 2009. He was Vice President of IAVA from 2004 to

2007 and attending almost all the Annual Conventions and Mid Annual Meetings of

IAVA. He is expert in the field of Histology, Histochemistry and Electron Microscopy and

donated to IAVA in 2008 to institute this Award to encourage the Anatomists in the field

of Histology, Histochemistry and Electron Microscopy.

6. DR K. S. ROY AWARD FOR BEST PAPER IN HISTO-ENZYMOLOGY AND

IMMUNO-HISTOCHEMISTRY

Dr.K.S.Roy is a pioneer scientist of Enzyme Histochemistry.He was treasurer and

Joint Secretary of IAVA .He was Head of the Department of Anatomy,College of

Veterinary Science,Ludhiana for about 10 years and later was Dean of the college.He is

receipient of the Meritorious Teacher Award of PAU,Life Time Achievement Award and

Fellowship of IAVA, ICAR award for Team Research,Fellowship of National Academy of

Veterinary Sciences,Dr.M.S.Randhawa Best book award.He Guided 13 M.V.Sc and 5

Ph.D students.Dr.Roy organized one refresher course,operated two ICAR

schemes,authored two text books and 6 laboratory manuals.He served in UL-Fateh

University ,Tripoli and was visiting Professor in University of Zambia.Recognizing his

contributions ICAR honoured him with Emeritus Scientist position.

7. LATE SHRI L. O. DHANDE MEMORIAL AWARD FOR “FORENSIC

ANATOMY INCLUDING ARCHAEOLOGICAL STUDY”

Dr.P.L.Dhande Professor and Head Department of Anatomy,College of Veterinary

Science,Mumbai instituted the medal in memory of his father late Shri O.L.Dhande who

retired as block Educational Officer.Dr.P.L.Dhande is an active Member of IAVA and he

organized national symposium during 2002 and one day convention during 2007.He has

been heading the department since 1997.

8. DR V. RAMKRISHNA SILVER JUBILEE MEDAL FOR “ANATOMICAL

TECHNIQUES”

Dr.V.Ramkrishna was head of the department at College of Veterinary science,Bidar for

13 years(1992-2005).He is a pioneer in plastination techniques.He was in university of

zambia for three years and trained in plastination techniques under guidance of Dr.Robert

Henry of university of Tenneessee.He published more than 80 research papers and

attended almost all IAVA conventions.He is recipient of Life Time Achievement award of

IAVA.

9. DR. A. K. SRIVASTAVA AWARD FOR “BIOTECHNOLOGY INCLUDING

STEM CELL TECHNOLOGY.

Dr.A.K. Srivastava, did his M.D.H. from Free University, Berlin and M.V.Sc. and Ph.

D. in Surgery & Radiology from Mathura Veterinary College.He established First ever

Poly Clinic of Uttar Pradesh A. H.department at Lucknow and retired as A.D.

(Planning). He was Dean, MJF College of Veterinary & Animal Science, Jaipur

during August, 2010 to February 2011.At present he is Professor & Head, Surgery,

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Jigjiga University, Ethiopia since October 2011. He is

Governing Body Member of National Academy of Veterinary Sciences,Founder

Secretary General of Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice; President of

Association of Public Health Veterinarians; and Vice President of U.P. Veterinary

Council. He published 54 Papers in Various Journals. He has published three books

entitled “Health Care and Management of Pet Dogs”; “Special Radiographic

Procedures in Small Animals” and “Homeopathic Treatment In Livestock” beside four

monographs. He is Fellow of the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences, Indian

Society for Veterinary Surgery,Indian Society for Study of Animal

Reproduction,Indian Association of Advancement of Veterinary Research, Association

of Veterinary Public Health, Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice and

International Congress of Chemistry and Environment . He has organized the Asian

Congress of Zoo and Wild Life Veterinarians, International Congress on Canine

Practice,Global Meet of Public Health Veterinarians and International Congress on

Veterinary Anatomy in November 2009.

10. LATE DR D S GROVER MEMORIAL AWARD FOR CLINICAL

ANATOMY & MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH

Dr D S Grover MBBS, DCH, Rajindra Hospital, Patiala served Punjab Govt.,

Department of Health and Family welfare for over 40 years and held various positions

and also headed district as civil surgeon, Sangrur (Punjab).He Retired as Joint

Director, Health Directorate, Chandigarh. He Served Punjab Govt even after

retirement as Senior Consultant in WHO Project for four states viz., Punjab, Himachal

Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir and Rajasthan. The SDSG Foundation is a govt. regd. NGO

that has been established after Dr.D. S. Grover passed away and is working in fields of

social upliftment. His Son in Law Dr R. S. Sethi (Life Member of IAVA) contributed

for establishment of this Award in his memory.

11. Dr. K. L. SURI AWARD & Medal For The Best Poster

Presentation

Dr. K.L.Suri father of Dr. Shalini Suri was born on 4th December, 1946. He did his

BAMS from Jammu (1971). He joined the Govt. Services in Himachal Pradesh as

Medical Officer. He did his MD in Human Physiology from Lucknow (1981).

He retired as Professor and Head from Rajiv Gandhi Ayurvedic , Himachal Pradesh in

2004.Now he is working as Professor & Head Department of Physiology in Jammu

Institute of Ayurvedic & Research Nardni Raipur Bantalab ,Jammu . His daughter Dr

Shalini Suri (Life Member of IAVA) contributed to start this award in the name of her

illustrious father.

12. IAVA YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD

To encourage the young Anatomists this award was started in 1999 during Ludhiana

Convention.

1.The award shall be known as “Young Scientist Award”.

2.The candidate applying for award must be a life member of the Association.

3.The age of the first author must be less than 35 years as on first day of the

convention. Proof must be produced in this regard.

4.The paper must be presented by the first author himself. Coauthors will not be

allowed to present the work on behalf of first author.

5.The candidate has to send 4 copies of full paper with tables and figures to the

Secretary well in time with a request to include it in the special session for this award.

6. The work should be original and should be other than that of thesis work and

the paper must not have been published earlier or not has been sent for

publication else where as the winning paper will be published in IJVA. A

certificate to this extent from Head of the Department has to be submitted by

candidate.

7. The work will be referred to three member committee nominated by executive of

IAVA which will screen and shortlist two best works. The scrutinizing Committee

13. Pandit Dev Dutt Sharma Travel Grant

Dr.Keshav Sharma Veterinarian working in Delhi Government and a doctorate in

Veterinary Anatomy from Mathura Veterinary College donated Rs.25000/- during the year

2014 in memory of his late grand father Pandit Dev Dutt Sharma,Freedom fighter and Vaidya

for Royal Family. An amount of Rs.2000/- will be paid as travel grant from the Kolkatta

convention(2015) onwards to one Asst. Professor of Anatomy every year who is not deputed

by respective university, to attend annual convention of IAVA. The individual shall be less

than 35 years of age as on the day of convention and his paper should have been accepted for

presentation during convention. In case of tie seniority and age will be given preference. A

certificate issued by head of the institution that the individual is attending conference with

out any financial commitment to respective university has to be submitted.

Guidelines for Conducting IAVA Conventions / Symposia

1. Considering the time constraints during convention only four Lead Papers in all will be

invited and presented during each convention and Organizing Secretary of the convention/

symposium shall invite only one lead paper from any speaker based on expertise,

seniority and contribution of the individual relevant to the theme of the session.

2. The registration fee for IAVA conventions shall be Rs.3000-00. The registration fee for

accompanying and student members shall be Rs.1500-00.

3. 25% of the registration fee shall be paid to IAVA by organizing Secretary. The

registration fee of student and accompanying members shall be excluded from calculation.

4. The IAVA can advance the money to organizing secretary as seed money which will be

refunded to IAVA after symposium.

Guidelines for IJVA Publication

• Free access is provided to researchers online

• The subscription rate per year is Rs. 1000/- for University and Private institutions/

Agencies .

• The members shall cite the papers of journal for good citation index.

• The first author must be Life member or Associate Member of IAVA for Publications

in Indian Journal of Veterinary Anatomy .In case of Foreign authors a sum of 50 US

dollars / equivalent Indian rupees shall be charged per paper without insisting for

membership. The Executive Editor shall take in to confidence the Secretary and

President of association before implementing any steps.

• Few articles may have coloured photos (in four colour).

• The rates for publication of advertisements shall be Rs.5000/- per page and Rs.3000/-

per half page.

• The information on achievements/appointments /elevations/ awards / obituary can be

incorporated in the journal.

• The Editorial Board should raise funds from printing charges of articles from authors,

advertisements,donations and subscription charges instead of depending on IAVA

Funds.

GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

● PRESENTATION OF MANUSCRIPTS

Contributions should be short and to the point, highlighting original observations and

their significance. Manuscript should be typed carefully in double space with 1” margins

(Times New Roman, font size 12). All the measurements should pertain to metric system.

● FORMAT AND ARRANGEMENT OF PAPERS

Every full length article should be divided under the heads, ABSTRACT and Key

words, INTRODUCTION, MATERIALS AND METHODS, RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

followed by ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS (if any) and REFERENCES.

Short Communication should be in running form without any headings but should

include ABSTRACT and Key words.

● TITLE PAGE OF THE ARTICLE should contain the following:

i) Folio including a) A short running title, not exceeding 40 letters (one line) and

b) Surnames of all the authors (second line) all in capitals at the top of the page.

ii) Title of the article with subtitle (if any) with the first letter of each word in capitals.

iii) The full name(s) of the author(s) in capital letters.

iv) Full postal address of the Department/Institution where the work was carried out.

v) Address for correspondence including e mail.

vi) Footnote including the present address(es) of the author(s) if different than the

institutional address, and other matters, if any.

● ABSTRACT: Abstract of about 200 words, written in complete sentences should be

submitted with both full length articles as well as short communications. It should be written

as an informative digest containing a very brief account of materials, methods, results and

conclusions, but should not include any reference to the text, illustrations and tables.

Key words: Upto 8 words should follow the abstract including all the areas required to be

indexed, even if not reflected in the title e.g. for the article entitled “Villi in Large Intestine of

Neonatal Bovine Calves”. The Key words based on the text may include “Large intestine,

caecum, colon, villi, cow, histology”.

● INTRODUCTION: The introduction (without heading) should briefly state the aims and

objectives. The review of literature pertinent to the problem should be included.

● MATERIALS AND METHODS: The relevant details of the materials used and methods

employed should be described briefly. If the methods used are established and well

recognized, only a reference to them will serve the purpose. New methods, of course, are

required to be detailed out. The statistical methods employed should be clearly stated.

● RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The results are best given in the words explaining and

summarizing the data shown in tables, graphs or other figures. The same data should not

normally be presented in both tabular and graphical form. The tables and figures should be

properly referred to in the text. The relation of results to previous work and their significance

should be discussed briefly but prominently. The different results obtained by different

methods should be justified. Also one’s own observations should be discussed clearly to draw

the conclusions.

● ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: All acknowledgements, including those of grants etc. should

be grouped together in this section.

● REFERENCES: All the published references cited in the text should be included in the list

of references and vice-versa. The unpublished data and personal communications can be cited

in the text in the same manner as other references but not included in list of references. If

there are more than one references by the same author(s) with the same year of publication,

these should be recognized properly both in the text and list of references by using suffix such

as a, b, c etc. after the year of publication.

CITATION OF REFERENCES IN THE TEXT should be as per the following examples.

Single author: Pearse (1972) or (Pearse, 1972). Two authors: Barka and Anderson (1963) or

(Barka and Anderson, 1963). More than two authors: Scott et al. (1963) or (Scott et al., 1963).

More than one reference: Chandra Pal and Bhardwaj (1989); Lalitha (1990); Sharma et al.

(1998) or (Chandra Pal and Bhardwaj, 1989; Lalitha, 1990; Sharma et al., 1998).

LIST OF REFERENCES should be arranged in alphabetical order of author’s name (without

serial number) under the heading “REFERENCES”. In case of more than one reference by the

same author(s), these should be arranged in chronological order and be given in full, avoiding

the use of ibid or dash (-) etc. The journal’s name should not be abbreviated and the reference

should be listed as per the example below:

● TABLES: Tables (if any) should be self explanatory but shortest possible, appropriately

titled, typed on separate page, numbered consequently in Arabic numerals (e.g. Table 1, Table

2 etc.), be properly referred to in the text and placed following the list of references. Table

should contain summaries of observations rather than records of numerous individual

findings. Large sized tables are likely to be rejected.

● FIGURES: Photographs/line drawings (coloured or black & white) should be properly

labelled and of good resolution. All illustrations should be of actual size as these should

appear after publication and be referred in the text by their numbers e.g. (Fig. 1) or (Figs. 1, 2,

5) or (Figs. 1-4) etc. The legends should be typed on separate page(s) and placed in the end of

the manuscript. Every illustration should be saved in jpeg format by the number and short

name of the author. If the number of photographs is more then the photographs may be

combined to form a plate at the time of first submission. However, the photographs must be

submitted individually in jpeg format at the time of revision of the article.

● CHARGES: Authors will be charged a sum of Rs. 800/ irrespective of number of pages and

photographs (B&W/coloured) for each research paper. If the first author is from other related

discipline then he/she has to become the associate member of IAVA.
