Patient wasreferred to a private hospital in Ahmedabad on 04/08/13 forfurther treatment. He expired on 06/08/13. Patients serumsample tested positive for CCHF by Real Time RT-PCR in NIV,Pune. 5 more serum samples taken and sent to NIV, Pune testednegative for CCHF by Real Time RT-PCR. Entomologicalsurvey done. 20 cattle serum samples and 10 tick samples sent to

    NIV, Pune; result awaited. Control measures undertaken.Contacts have been kept under surveillance. Garbage removaland cleanliness drive undertaken in the village by GramPanchayat. Anti-larval activities, fogging and insecticide spraydone. Acarecidal treatment of cattle with Deltamethrinundertaken by Veterinary Department. Search for more casescontinues.

    Case reported from Village Bidada, PHC Talwana, BlockMandvi, District Kutch. District RRT investigated the outbreak.A 48 year male admitted in a private hospital in Bhuj on 09/08/13

    with complaints of fever, headache, diarrhoea. Patient wastransferred to Rajkot on 11/08/13 for further treatment. Patientdied on 13/08/13. Patients serum sample sent to NIV, Punetested positive for CCHF by Real Time RT-PCR. Entomologicalsurvey done. 30 cattle serum samples sent to NIV, Pune; resultawaited. Control measures undertaken. Contacts have been keptunder surveillance. Garbage removal and cleanliness driveundertaken in the village by Gram Panchayat. Anti-larvalactivities, fogging and insecticide spray done. Acarecidaltreatment of cattle with Deltamethrin undertaken by VeterinaryDepartment. Search for more cases continues.

Entomological survey done (HI 16, CI 9.7, BI18 and Pupal index 4). 1 serum collected was positive for Dengue(IgM ELISA). All 28 blood smears collected were negative formalaria. Anti larval activites undertaken. Health education given.

    Tiruvannamalai xxv.Chikungunya 13 0 05/08/13 05/08/13 Undercontrol

    Cases of headache, fever, arthralgia reported from VillageAthiyanur, SC Ammanampakkam, PHC Kovalai, DistrictTiruvannamalai. District RRT investigated the outbreak. Houseto house fever survey done. Cases treated symptomatically. 13

    blood smears collected which tested negative for malaria. Out of5 serum samples collected and sent to ZET Vellore, 3 sampleswere positive for Chikungunya (IgM ELISA). Entomologicalsurvey revealed; HI 9, CI 4.2, BI 13. Vectors Aedes aegypti andAedes albopictus were identified in the affected area. Anti-larvalactivities using Temephos and Pyrethrum spray done.

    positive for both Hepatitis A and E (IgM ELISA) and 1 serumsample was positive for Hepatitis E. 10 water smples collectedwere non potable. Open defecation was rampant in the affectedarea. Hygiene and sanitation was poor in the community.

    Disinfection of the surroundings done. IEC done regardinghygiene maintenance, hand washing practices, disposal of excretaand us eof boiled water for drinking purposes.

    of the affected area was 1787. A 55 year old male with complaints of highgrade fever, headache and gastritis admitted in PDU, Medical CollegeHospital, Rajkot on 27/07/13 and expired on 31/07/13. Patient tested

    positive for CCHF by Real Time RT-PCR in NIV, Pune. 8 more serumsamples were collected and sent to NIV, Pune, which tested negative forCCHF by Real Time RT-PCR. Entomological survey done. 14 cattleserum samples and 4 pools of ticks sent to NIV, Pune which testednegative for CCHFV. Control measures undertaken. Monitoring ofcontacts of the confirmed case is being undertaken. Garbage removal andcleanliness drive undertaken in the village by Gram Panchayat. Anti-larvalactivities, fogging and insecticide spray done. Acarecidal treatment ofcattle with Deltamethrin undertaken by Veterinary Department. Search formore cases continues.

    Cases reported from Village Undara, PHC Sampra, District Patan. DistrictRRT investigated the outbreak. Population of the affected area was 4343.A 68 year female admitted in a private hospital in Patan on 11/07/13 withcomplaints of fever, headache and abdominal pain. Patient was referred toBJMC, Ahmedabad on 18/07/13 for further treatment. She died on20/07/13. Another patient (7 year male) developed fever, nausea, vomitingand headache on 16/07/13 and admitted in Dharpur Medical College,Patan. Patient recovered. Both cases tested positive for CCHF in NIV,Pune by Real Time RT-PCR. 8 more serum samples were collected andsent to NIV, Pune, which tested negative for CCHF by Real Time RT-PCR. Entomological survey done. 35 cattle serum samples and 67 pools ofticks sent to NIV, Pune which tested negative for CCHFV. Controlmeasures undertaken. Contacts under surveillance. Garbage removal and

    cleanliness drive undertaken in the village by Gram Panchayat. Anti-larvalactivities, fogging and insecticide spray done. Acarecidal treatment ofcattle with Deltamethrin undertaken by Veterinary Department. Search formore cases continues.
