    MMR vaccination drive in HaryanaMOHAMMED GROUSE 10/09/201010:50:00

    cmCAGO: A Chicago-based non profit organization, Mission India Foundation (MIF),recently organized an MMRVaccination Camp in village Niwaznagar in Narnaul city ofHaryana. Over 120kids were provided MMRvaccine free of cost on this occasion.Describing the details of the MMR vaccination project, Dr Munish Kumar Raizada, a Mission spokesman, said that theFoundation has launched an ambitious project of providing 4000 kids with MMR vaccines in Namaul region of India.The project was launched on April 7, 2010 (World Health Day) and so far, 906 vaccines have been given. The MMRvaccines are given free of cost to the kids in rural area. Dr Raizada recently visited the project site in India andexpressed satisfaction at the MMR drive.Dr. Meghana Aruru - who is a Board Member MIF and also teaching pharmacy at Midwestern University - hopes thatMMR vaccination drive will not only have huge preventhe implications in terms of disease prevention, but also createawareness about the vaccines in rural areas of India.MMR vaccine provides protection against three diseases namely Measles, Mumps and Rubella. Although IndianAcademy of Pediatrics representing a national level academic organization of Pediatricians has recommended thatMMR vaccine be a part of the Immunization schedule in India, the vaccine is still not a part of the government'sUniversal Immunization Program (UIP).Describing the details of MIF activities in India, Dr Nitender Goyal, a resident physician based in Boston and closelyassociated with Mission India Foundation said that the local team in India consists of an Operations Manager and acertified health care worker (ANM). MIF provides vaccination services to kids at their vaccination clinic located in theheart of the city and by visiting the villages.The health team goes to the surrounding villages three times a week, thus providing vaccines to kids at their doorstep.The Foundation has allied with Aanganwaadi workers to reach more and more kids. Its Board Member Dr. Ved PYadav supervises the overall project in India. . 'Dr Dharmendra Nimavat of Springfield, IL who has been tracking the progress of MMR Vaccination drive sinceinception, elaborated that Mission India Foundation will expand its activities to other areas after successfullycompleting its MMR Vaccination drive in Namaul area. It also plans to include other vaccines that are not easilyavailable to kids in India, for example typhoid vaccine, hepatitis A vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine.Powered by Vivvo eMS v4.1.1
