Transcript of India June 15 Monthly Achievement

  • Achievement Report June 2015

The month of June brought four construction volunteers to the small slum of Santhom and home improvement was top of the list of things to do.

Within the first week, the building of the thirteen new houses had reached its conclusion, with volunteer Stewart helping out, plastering the floors and walls. Following that, volunteers Ben, Alannah and Rachel all decided they wanted a go on the project and swapped from education.

It was decided that the focus would shift to improving the outside of the homes. Improving the drab grey of the concrete base and painting a mural on each of the walls, the volunteers helped the houses to become homes.

Alannah lead the design and painting of the murals, while Stewart and Ben painted the bases a matt black so as to hide the inevitable dirt that encroaches upon all of the structures in Santhom. The people of Santhom were clearly very happy to receive the murals and it was unfortunate that the teams time came to an end before all were finished. Fortunately however, we discovered the artistic talent of one of the girls living in Santhom. She loved painting and after a short conversation, was incredibly enthusiastic to be able to finish all of the murals in Santhom with us providing the resources.

All of the new houses in Santhom now look far more pleasant to be in, and have a homely feel about them. The team should be proud of their work.
