    An Indian Food Festival was held coinciding with the MissIndiaWorldwiseBeautyPageant2012.TheFoodFestivalwasheldfrom19thFebruaryto26thFebruaryatCourtyardMarriot,ParamariboandpresentedapickofIndianculinarydelightstothe participants of theMiss IndiaWorldwiseBeauty Pageant2012 and other guests. VicePresident of Suriname,H.E.Mr.RobertAmeerali andhis family,wereamong theguests.TheFoodfestivalwassponsoredbytheMinistryofTourismoftheGovernment of India. The Food Festival created awarenessamongstthelocalclienteleaboutvarietyofIndiancuisine.

    NewDelhi: India received$2billion foreigndirect investment inJanuary 2012, registering a 92 per cent rise, compared to $1.04billion a year ago. The cumulative inflows for the April 2011January 2012 period stood at $26.19 billion, according to anofficialrelease.SectorswhichreceivedFDIinflowsduringthe10month period this fiscal are: services ($4.83 billion),pharmaceuticals ($3.20 billion), telecommunication ($1.99billion), construction ($2.23 billion), power ($1.56 billion) andmetallurgical industries ($1.65billion).Mauritius remain the topsource of inflows ($8.91 billion), followed by Singapore ($4.30billion), Japan($2.75billion),UK($2.75billion),Germany($1.46billion),theNetherlands($1.16billion)andCyprus($1.31billion).FDIinflowsintoIndiatotalled$19.42billionin201011financial

    BusinessStandard:March20,2012Mumbai:TheIndianinterneteconomyisprojectedtotouchRs10.8trillionby2016,accordingtoareportintheTheBostonConsultingGroupsConnectedWorldSeriesstudy.IndianinterneteconomythatcontributedRs3.2trilliontotheoveralleconomyin2010represents4.1percentofthegrossdomesticproduct.ThereportThe$4.2trillionOpportunity:TheInternetEconomyinG20,furthernotesthatiftheinternetwereasector,itwouldbetheeighthlargestinIndia.Itisdrivenespeciallybyexportsofinformationtechnologyservicesnetexportsmakeup59percentoftheIndianInterneteconomy,whileconsumptionisonly20percent.ConsumptionistheprincipaldriverofinternetGDPinmostcountries,typicallyrepresentingmorethan50percentofthetotalin2010.Itwillremainthelargestsingledriverthrough2016.ChinaandIndiastandoutfortheirenormousinternetrelatedexportsChinaingoods,Indiainserviceswhichpropeltheirinterneteconomyrankingstowardthetopofthechart,saidArvindSubramanian,aMumbaibasedBCGpartner.Hesaid,InemergingcountrieslikeIndia,socialmediaisfastbecomingtheinternetmediumandmobiletheaccessmediumofchoice.Indiasinterneteconomygrowthrateof23percentmakesitthesecondfastestacrosstheG20countriesandaheadofmanyotherdevelopingnationsintheG20,whicharegrowingatanaverageof17.8percent.Projectedgrowthrateselsewhereare:24.3percentinArgentina,18.3percentinRussiaand15.6percentinMexico.In2010,developedmarketscontributed76percentoftheG20'sinterneteconomy;by2016thatwillfallto66percent.In2010,theshareofonlineretailoutoftheoverallretailinIndiawasonly0.9percent.Itisprojectedtoreach4.5percentby2016.What'smore,theinternetinfluencesonlyanadditional0.8percentoftotalretailfromconnectedconsumersresearchingonlineandpurchasingoffline('ROPO').Thesenumberscompareto3.1percentforonlinesalesand4percentforROPOinBrazil,1.7percentand4.8percentinRussia,and5percentand9.6percentintheUS.Thereportalsohighlightshowinternethasbecomeanintegralpartofconsumerseverydaylife.Whenthereportaskedthesurveyedbasehowmuchtheywouldhavetobepaidtolivewithoutinternetaccess,IndianrespondentssaidanaverageofRs21,436peryear,or2.8timeswhattheypayforaccessandservices.Whenaskedwhethertheywouldforgototakeshowersforayearinordertokeepinternetaccess,36percentofIndianonlineconsumerssaidtheywould;64percentsaidtheywouldforgochocolate;63percentcoffee;and70percentwouldgiveupalcohol.ThereportfurtherstatedthattheinterneteconomyindevelopedmarketsoftheG20willgrowatanannualrateof8percentoverthenextfiveyears,faroutpacingjustabouteverytraditionaleconomicsector,producingbothwealthandjobs.ThecontributiontoGDPwillriseto5.7percentintheEUand5.3percentfortheG20.Growthrateswillbemorethantwiceasfastanaverageannualrateof18percentindevelopingmarkets,someofwhicharebankingondigitalfuturewithbiginvestmentsinbroadbandinfrastructure.Theeconomyby2016willalsoemploy32millionmorepeoplethanitdoestoday.In2010,theinterneteconomyintheUKaccountedforthehighestpercentageofnationalGDP,followedbySouthKorea(7.3percent)andChina(5.5percent).Ineachofthesethreecountries,theinterneteconomywouldrankamongthetopsixindustrysectors.At4.7percent,the2010shareofUSGDPcontributedbytheinternetwasaboutthesameasthesharecontributedbythefederalgovernmentandrankedslightlyaheadofthedevelopedmarkets'averageshareof4.3percent.

    NewDelhi:LowcosttabletsaregettingtractionintheIndianmarket.AccordingtoCyberMediaResearch,about4.75lakhunitsoftabletsweresoldinIndialastyear.MrNaveenMishra,LeadTelecomsAnalyst,CyberMediaResearch,said,TheIndianmarkethasbecomeverycompetitiveinthefivequarterssincefourthquarterof2010,whenthefirsttabletmodelwasintroducedinthecountrybySamsung.Goingforward,withthelaunchofnew,competitivelypricedmodelsfromvendorssuchasIntexandMicromax,CyberMediaResearchexpectsbiggermarketingspendstopopularisethetabletformfactoraswellassignalbrandstrengthbyleadingplayers,headded.Overthepastfewmonths,numberofcompanieshavelaunchedlowcosttabletsinthemarket.ThisincludestheINTEXitabatRs11,900,ZynctabletatRs8,990andWishtel'stabletatRs4,000AccordingtoCyberMediaResearch,thecompetitionisexpectedtointensifyfurtherwithnewvendorslaunchingtheirproductsduring2012.Inashortspanoftime,themarkethasalreadyseenverticalised'productofferingsandduring2012thiswillbecomeanevenstrongertrend.Fornow,educationseemstobetheverticalwithhighestpriorityofadoptionandalargenumberofmodelsarepositionedatthissegment,MrMishrasaid.However,hecautionedthatthesuccessinadoptionoftabletswilllargelydependonproductperformanceandavailabilityofrelevantcontentaswellasaffordableandwidespread3Gservices.

    ForeigndirectinvestmentnormsforIndiansrelaxedBusinessStandard:March29,2012Mumbai: TheReserveBankof India (RBI) on announced a slewof revisions aimed at liberalising thenorms fordirect investment abroadby Indian residents. These include liberalisation in regulations onqualification shares,professionalservicesrenderedandEsop(employeestockoptionplan)schemes.The central bankhas removed the capof oneper cent on resident individuals acquiringqualification shares forholding the post of a director in a foreign company. Accordingly, remittance shall be allowed from residentindividuals for acquiring the qualification shares for holding the post of a director in a foreign company to theextentprescribedinthelawofthehostcountrywhereitislocated,saidtheRBInotification.Ithasalsodecidedtograntgeneralpermissiontoresidentindividualstoacquiresharesofaforeignentityinpartorfullconsiderationforprofessionalservicesrenderedtotheforeigncompanyorinlieuofadirectorsremuneration.And,IndianresidentemployeesordirectorshavebeenpermittedtoacceptsharesofferedunderanEsopschemeglobally, on a uniformbasis, in a foreign company irrespective of thepercentage of thedirect or indirect equitystake.Earlier,thefacilitywassubjecttoequityholdingofnotlessthan51percent.However,sharesundertheEsopschemeshouldbeofferedbytheissuingcompanygloballyonauniformbasisandtheannualreturnfiledbytheIndiancompanytoRBIthroughtheauthoriseddealercategoryIbank,givingdetailsofremittancesandbeneficiaries.RBIalsoannouncedseveralmodifications toease theprocessofdirect investmentsabroad. Ithasbeendecidedthat issuanceofpersonalguaranteebythepromotersof the IndianpartyaspresentlyallowedunderthegeneralpermissionshallalsobeextendedtotheindirectresidentindividualpromotersoftheIndianparty,withthesamestipulationsasinthecaseofpersonalguaranteebythedirectpromoters,itsaid.

    Exportsduringcurrentfiscalwillbearound$300b:SharmaTheHinduBusinessLine:Mumbai:Thecountry'sexportsduringthecurrentfiscalwouldbearound$300billion,anincreaseof22percentfrom$245billionachievedlastyear,saidtheUnionCommerceMinister,MrAnandSharma,onThursday.Hewas interactingwith themedia after reviewing theprogressof theDelhiMumbai IndustrialCorridor (DMIC)project.MrSharmasaidthatgrowth inexportshavebeenachieved inspiteofverychallengingcircumstancesandglobalcontractionofdemand.Theconsciousstrategywhichwehaveadoptedofaccessingnewmarketshavesustainedourexportsandwouldbeabletowithstandtheincreasingpressureoncurrentandtradeaccount,hesaid.Hesaidthatexportshavetobesustainedbyarobustmanufacturingsector.ThereforeprojectssuchasDMICandNationalManufacturingZonesneedstobegivenaboost.TodayDMICisoneofthebiggestinfrastructureprojectsontheanvil,whichwillimpact43percentofthenationalpopulation.Inthelongrun,DMICwillattractaninvestmentofabout$100billion.RidingalongwiththeindustrialcorridorwouldbetheNationalManufacturingZones(NMZ),whichwouldbefullfledgedindustrialtownshipsfocussedonmanufacturingindustries.SevensuchzonesarebeingplannedalongtheDMIC,ofwhichtwowouldbeinMaharashtra,MrSharmasaid.Alsoaddressingthemedia,theMaharashtraChiefMinister,MrPrithvirajChavan,saidthatinthefirstphaseoftheproject,DighiportindustrialareainRaigaddistrictspreadover2,500kmandShendraBidkinmegaindustrialareaof845kminAurangabadhavebeenidentifiedasNMZs.BoththeregionswouldbedevelopedwithaninvestmentofaboutRs8,766crore,hesaid.ForproperimplementationoftheDMICprojectintheState,a jointventurebetweentheDelhiMumbaiIndustrialCorridorCorporationand theMaharashtraGovernmentwill be setup,whichwill have an independent team forimplementingtheproject,MrChavansaid.

    February2012atUSdollar267.4billionIndias exports for themonths of April 2011 February 2012 haveregistered a growth of21.4%, atUS$267.4billion.Interacting with the mediapersons, Shri Rahul Khullar,Commerce Secretary,informed that during thesame period the importswereUS$434.2billionwitha growth of 29.4% and aBalanceofTradestoodatUS$ ()166.8billion,during thesame period.     TappingEnergyfromSmallHydroPowerProjects

    Hydropower isobtained fromthepotentialenergyofwater

    flowingfromaheight.Theenergyisconvertedintoelectricitybyusingaturbinecoupledtoagenerator.Thehydropowerpotentialofasiteisdependenton thedischargeandheadofwater.Theseprojectscanbesetuponrivers,canalsoratdams.TheyareclassifiedasMicrohydro(up to 100kW),Mini hydro (1012000kW i.e. 2MW) and Small hydro(above2MWupto25MW).

    SHP is economical and at the same time is compatiblewithuseofwaterforotherpurposeslikedrinking,irrigationetc.Itcanalsoprovideelectricity inadecentralizedmanner.Itgivestheflexibilityofinstallationandoperationinadistributedmode.Thepowergenerationis environmentally friendly because it causes negligible or nosubmergence; minimal deforestation and hence reduced impact onflora,faunaandbiodiversity.ThestandardindigenoustechnologiesfortheSHPareavailableandhenceonlyminoradaptationtospecificsiteconditionsisrequired.

    While SHP projects on rivers involve higher costs of civilworks than those on canals, the cost of equipments for canal basedprojectsisrelativelyhigher.SHPprojectsgenerallycostbetweenRs.78.5croreperMW.SHPprojectsgenerallyhaveapaybackperiodof57yearsdependinguponthecapacityutilizationfactor.

    TheMinistry of New andRenewable Energy (MNRE) supports SHP development throughout the country, both in government andprivatesectors.Apartfromprovidingfinancialsubsidytonewventures,thegovernmentprovidesassistanceforrenovationandmodernization(R&M)of existing stations.The subsidy isutilizedby thepromoter towards repaymentof the term loanavailed froma financial institution.However, thesubsidy isreleasedafter theprojectperformanceparametersareachieved.Theequipment tooused iscommensuratewith thestandardslaiddownbytheInternationalElectrotechnicalCommissionandBureauofIndianStandards.Aspecial incentivepackagehasbeendeveloped for thepromotionof theSHPprogramme in theNorthEasternstates, JammuandKashmir,HimachalPradeshandUttarakhand.Anumber of states have announced policies to attract private sector entrepreneurs to set up SHP projects.     PRACTICES As part of Annual Assessment Programme for Yoga students, the students attending Yoga classes since July 2010 were assigned different topics - sixteen topics - each topic will be written by three students together and 55 practices will be written by each student, which they will submit by 30th April 2012.
