Thermoelectric coolingunits D.c.version
The d.c. thermoelectric cooling units are an effective solution for the conditioning of small enclosures or electronic equipments. These units are heat pumps where electricity transfers heat without using hazardous gases or liquids.Compared to the traditional systems, thermoelectric units have any moving part (except the fans). The core system consists in one or more thermoelectric modules (Peltier modules) that allow from one side an heat absorption (cold side), and from the opposite side an heat release to the ambient (warm side). The main features are:- eco-friendly- maintenance free- able to work in any mounting position - long life - easy installation

The difference between the outside and the inside temperature of the cabinet is indicated as ΔT. Starting from the temperature needed inside the enclosure and the ambient temperature, the graphic at page 07 enables to obtain the cooling power provided by the thermoelectric units in those conditions.
Example: Te = 25°C; Ti = 15°C The ΔT calculated is: ΔT=25°C-15°C=10°C
Esempio: Te = 25°C; Ti = 15°C Il ΔT calcolato sarà: ΔT=25°C-15°C=10°C
Sizing Dimensionamento
To calculate the cooling power there are two methods:
• Graphic method
In the graphic find the point ΔT =10°C on the horizontal axis, move vertically to match the performance line of the thermoelectric unit, then move horizontally to meet the axis of the cooling power (follow the arrows of the graphic). In our example the thermoelectric unit provides a cooling power of around 72 W.
NOTE: The graphic is rated for an ambient temperature of 25°C, but it is also valid with a good approximation for ± 5°C temperatures. For higher temperatures the curve moves to the top, while for lower temperatures the curve moves to the bottom.
• Equation method
We can achieve the same result by using the performance equation of the thermoelectric unit. In order to calculate the cooling power Qc the unknown value ΔT must be 10°C.
Example: Qc = - 2.881 · ΔT + 101.4 = Qc = - 2.881 · 10 + 101.4 = 72.6 W
Esempio: Qc = - 2,881 · ΔT + 101,4 = Qc = - 2,881 · 10 + 101,4 = 72,6 W
07
Nomenclature: Ti = target temperature inside the cabinetTe = ambient temperature outside the cabinetΔT = temperature difference between outside and inside the cabinetQc = cooling power of the thermoelectric unit
Legenda:Ti = temperatura desiderata all’interno dell’armadioTe = temperatura esterna (ambiente)ΔT = differenza di temperatura tra l'esterno e l'interno dell’armadioQc = potenza frigorifera dell'unità termoelettrica

Unità termoelettriche inc.a.
Thermoelectric coolingunits a.c.version
The a.c. thermoelectric cooling units is an effective solution for the conditioning of small enclosures or electronic equipments. In order to avoid additional heat inside the enclosure, the switching power supply is integrated in to the external unit cover. This thermoelectric unit can be connected directly to 230Va.c., through a terminal block. The core system consists in one or more thermoelectric modules (Peltier modules) that allow from one side an heat absorption (cold side), and from the opposite side an heat release to the ambient (warm side).

Moduli termoelettrici
Thermoelectric modules
The thermoelectric module (or Peltier module) is a specific electronic component which works as a small heat pump. It is made up of a certain number of couples of semiconductor material with different electric charge. These couples are laid down between two ceramic plates, like a “sandwich”, that act as a mechanical support and also as an electrical insulator.Applying a DC electric current to the module, the system starts to work cooling a side of the module and warming the opposite one.The thermoelectric modules could be used both to cool and to warm: by reversing the direction of the electrical current passing through the module, the heat flow is also reversed. The use of thermoelectric technology is the most direct way to convert electric energy in cooling power.
