LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORDear Community Bridges Family, At Community Bridges (CB) we are truly changing the lives of girls inMontgomery County through integrated programming that encourages girlsfrom diverse backgrounds to lead holistically healthy lives: emotionally, sociallyand physically. Our weekly lessons focus on topics such as healthy relationships, cultural awareness, leadership and goal setting. Lessons are reinforced with out-of-school trips and activities such as participation in our annual Career &Innovation Summit, youth empowerment conferences, opportunities forcommunity advocacy, college tours and more. We further extend the impact forCB girls by wrapping their own efforts with our mentoring, college and careerplanning, family and alumnae programs. Our goal is to end the cycle of povertyfor a girl and her family using education as a vehicle. In fiscal year, 2019 we had another fantastic year of growth. The CB girls wereexposed to many exciting opportunities from traveling to New York City, touringSpellman College in Atlanta, bowling with their mentors, exploring science andtechnology, to creating a documentary and so much more. Through the nextseveral pages you will see that our annual report is so much more than just statsand figures, you will see stories of some of our amazing girls. Turn the page andfollow along in a journey of learning just why Community Bridges is having sucha tremendous impact on girls. With your continued support, we will continue toprovide an integrated, holistic program for girls from elementary through highschool. Thank you for all you do to help change the lives of girls. Sincerely, Shannon Babe-ThomasExecutive Director

FISCAL YEAR IMPACT
Girls in the Community Bridges Girls Program come from allwalks of life, but share a common bond - being a CB girl. CBgirls gather together in program and create friendships they
thought they never would have. “Community Bridges means a sisterhood; a place you can gowhere you can confide in and people who you know will supportyou in anything that you do. They will be with you through yourtough times, celebrate you with your good times, and it's a family"- CBHS Participant, Kelly Leak
“There are a lot of people I have became I friends with that Ididn't expect to become friends with. If we didn't go to CommunityBridges, we would have never spoken to each other because we are
all in different grades and we all have different personalities butall just ended up clicking. Like there are personalities that I don’t
like, but I ended up becoming good friends with someonecompletely different and not like me at all but now we are close.” -
CBHS Participant, Alliss Arevalo-Campos

to attend the 2014 CB winter fundraiser where the two startedtheir positive relationship.
Evelyn praises Yessica for being a young person who activelypursues her passion such as dancing at school, participating
in church and volunteerism. “I do not know many 15-yearold’s who do as much as she does all while maintaining a
positive attitude, smile, and keeps up with their social life,”says Evelyn.
The pair continue to support each other through every stageof their lives with honesty and positivity. This relationship is
full of love and appreciation. “As she grows, I grow. As shewins, I win. As she matures, I mature,” says Evelyn.

COLLEGE AND CAREERSPRING BREAK COLLEGE ROAD TRIP
Community Bridges had the amazing opportunityto take 3 staff members and 10 CB girls on a SpringBreak College Tour Road Trip. The road trip tookplace from April 15-18 with stops at the Universityof North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University,
Agnes Scott College and Spelman College. Theexperience was a first of many for our CB girls. Forsome girls, it was the first time they’ve left the state
and stayed overnight in a hotel. Several juniorsfrom the trip have already decided to apply next
year to the schools they visited.

ALUMNAE PROGRAMGoing into her junior year at Towson University, Rudi praises
Community Bridges for being an open and friendly place for her toarticulate her thoughts and gain new skills. In the 2018-2019 schoolyear, Rudi worked as a Community Center Assistant that dealt with
students in a residence hall and being the person students can reachout to. “Students would ask for advice regarding their classes, friendships, and personal lives. There was a level of trust that
happened naturally that made me feel proud and CB had a role to playin that,” Rudi says.
Because Community Bridges included people from diverse
backgrounds and situations, Rudi felt well rounded to converse withmany different people and create bonds. Meeting twice every week andhaving important dialogues that went beyond the classroom helped to
make those real-world connections people need to enrich their minds.
She says that Community Bridges gave her the seeds she needed togrow independently, and she hopes to help others like Community
Bridges did and is continuing to do for her.
"Community Bridges helped relieve the anxietyI felt about college. During my time in theprogram, we went on a lot of college tours.
From there I chose Towson University and I'mloving my time here," - Rudi Elien

CB girl Kaylee and her mother Vanessa see nothing but continued growthin their future. It's only been two years since Kaylee joined CB herfreshman year of high school , but even in this short period of time
Vanessa has noticed her daughter develop into an increasingly confidentyoung woman. It is because of CB that "Kaylee is more open to being indifferent settings and interacting with different types of people," says
Vanessa.
When asked what CB means to her Vanessa said that it "meansopportunities for her daughter but also for her as a parent to participate indecision making groups." This ability to participate in CB as a parent has
provided Vanessa with a newfound agency and a community that she feelscomfortable in but also challenged by.
"My favorite CB memory is when Kaylee and I participated in the
Thanksgiving Parade. When you participate in something like a parade youbecome the center of attention which usually I would find uncomfortable but
at the same time its a good exercise to be with a group of people that makeyou feel comfortable doing something you wouldn't normally do." - Vanessa
