The Situation
• Motivation: “I have to study English”• Wide variation of student ability• How to encourage regular study
Independent Learning
• Teach defines scope of the learning• Student works at his own pace• Teacher supports and assesses• How to apply this to ~200 students?• A web-based application?

Where is it applicable?
• Input – Reading and Listening – YES!• Output – Writing and Speaking

In Class: Week 1“Getting to Know You”
• Note down your check code • Browse to www.myfigtree.net?wf=institution_idSurvey’s purpose: introduction and goal-setting
Week 2“Introducing Word Friend”
• 1 Study day = 3 minutes• Homework: 1 point = 3 study days of both modes Continue every week. (2x3x3 = 18 min a week) Maximum: 10 points
Week 3“Let’s Chat”
• Daily review question• Student can see class’s responses plus teacher’s comments.
A Class Set Up
• Page currently in design phase• Currently done via a text file
Passing Comment
• The correction is no great burden• It provides effective review• It could be done as a class activity
Semi-Automated Testing
• An optional extra• Decide on a set of questions
with variations• Translate into Korean - optional• Record your questions – MP3 • 8 questions in 3½ minutes
