FEELStudents felt strongly about the problem of
Dry leaves that were making our school premises and surroundings unhygienic. They felt that dry leaves could be used in a much productive manner simply by recycling them.
IMAGINE
We discussed the problem with our teacher and decided to use the leaves for making manure for our school garden.
So decided to undertake vermiculture project.
VERMICULTUREVermiculture means artificial rearing or
cultivation of worms (Earthworms) and the technology is the scientific process of using them for the betterment of human beings. Vermicompost is the excreta of earthworm, which is rich in humus. Earthworms eat cow dung or farm yard manure along with other farm wastes and pass it through their body and in the process convert it into vermicompost.
DO
Now with the help of our teacher we approached the officials of pollution control department (Govt.of Delhi ) and invited them for discussing the project.
Subsequently we discussed the proposal and discussed its implications.
Mr.Ashish took a workshop and told us about vermiculture.
VERMICULTURE PITWe got a vermiculture pit made in our school
garden.
All the students collected dry leaves and put them In the pit.We waited for about 10 days till the leaves decomposed.
We watered the leaves regularly. The leaves gradually got decomposed and the food for the worms was ready.
CARE OF THE WORMS
We took good care of the worms .We gave them water regularly.
Thus we succeeded in tranforming the waste into a useful product simply by the process of recycyling. The environment was also protected in the process.
