About the

Robert Ransley Open Juried Art Show and Tribute to Gisela J. Bly

In June of 1966, Robert Ransley and Gisela J. Bly, two Mount Holly artists, had the mutual desire to form an art guild that would increase awareness of the visual arts. Thus, the Burlington County Art Guild was established. Robert Ransley passed away five years later. A few years thereafter, his wife, Eleanor Ransley offered to sponsor an exhibit in her husband’s name.

Mrs. Ransley sponsored the exhibit for several years with a purse of $50.00, before moving from the area. The membership of the Burlington County Art Guild under the direction of Gisela Bly has continued the annual Ransley Exhibit with hard work and determination, along with sponsorships from art-loving patrons. In 2011, the Guild attained non-profit status as a 501(c)(3) Corporation.

Since 2008, the Burlington County Art Guild has honored co-founder Gisela J. Bly with the Annual Gisela J. Bly Members Juried Show. Sadly, Gisela passed away in 2017 making it the first show Gisela did not present her special award. The 12th Annual Gisela J. Bly Members Juried Show will continued to honor her leadership in art teaching and promotion due to funding by family, art guild members, students and patrons. October 2019 marks the 12th anniversary of her show. Gisela, we miss you very much.

The Guild offers its members six exhibitions throughout the year to showcase their art. A regular monthly meeting with artist demonstration is held from September through May, on the third Tuesday evening of each month, at the Burlington County Library Headquarters in Westampton, NJ. A newsletter arrives monthly and several workshop classes are offered during the year. December Holidays are celebrated at an annual party.

JUROR’S STATEMENT:

I would like to convey my thanks to the Burlington County Art Guild for inviting me to judge the 47th Annual Robert Ransley Open Juried Art Show exhibition at Virtua hospital this year. I would like to particularly thank Jeanne Evans. Unfortunately Jeanne took a fall the day of jurying. I hope she has a quick and uneventful recovery.

I was pleased at the volume of submissions and the number of strong works on view. The level and consistency in works made it tough to pick award winners. It is good to see so many artists working at this level in the county. Keep up the good work everyone.
