Dr. Gander severed for two years as the Associate Director of Curriculum / Instruction and International Teacher Human Resources at our school. He provided outstanding service for our school, earning the Quancheng Friendship Award from the Municipal Peoples Government of Jinan, a city of approximately seven million people in Shandong Provence, Peoples Republic of China. From the very beginning Dr. Gander made a number of supportive improvements to our programs, modeling a level of professionalism that we had not experienced in our school. His impact on our professional development of our leadership staff and teaching staff was based in a clear vision of what effective instructional departments looks like. As Associate Director his main work was in the development of an English as a Second Language instructional framework that would support our students English language acquisition over the three years they attend JNFLSIC. During his time Dr. Gander also improved the foundation of our overall curriculum. He brought in more courses from the College Board and improved our Cambridge A-Level English language instructional materials. His staff development training and mentoring of teachers will be greatly missed. In the end our students will benefit very much from his comprehensive look at our full three-year program. Dr. Gander’s collaborative approach was also instrumental in fostering the development of our counseling department. He worked closely with our Chinese national Counseling Director and her staff to develop a transcript process for both our USA bound students and those heading into UK style systems. The grade book and transcript policies he designed are very important in our work with parents and college recruiters to give our student the best chance at high quality college placements. Dr. Gander was also responsible for working with me in the area of managing our overseas personnel and their contracts. We worked together to improve our teacher evaluation tool and he carried out annual evaluations for almost our entire staff. He led the development of a model staff handbook and international teachers handbook that are key in helping our teachers understand their work. His understanding of contracts and helping us understand them improved our contracts greatly. I would highly recommend Dr. Gander for any position he is applying for. I very much appreciate the professionalism and dedication that Dr. Gander showed to me and to our school. He is an excellent administrator as seen by his being awarded a medal by our local government, a very rare occurrence. I would welcome any prospective employers to call me if they would like further information.
