OUC wishes to congratulate Nemours Children’s Hospital for achieving LEED® Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Like OUC’s own Reliable Plaza, which has been dubbed “the Greenest Building in downtown Orlando,” Nemours Children’s Hospital uses less energy and water thanks to a variety of green features.

Last October as part of the hospital’s grand opening ceremonies, OUC and Nemours teamed up for the “Believe in Conservation” art contest that gave local students the chance to illuminate the hospital’s iconic multi-colored LED lights for the first time.

In addition to the lights, the state-of-the-art hospital’s environmentally friendly features include free electric vehicle charging stations and rooftop gardens to reduce energy use and Florida native landscaping and low-flow faucets to conserve water.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized as one of the nation’s leaders in sustainability and green building,” said Roger Oxendale, CEO of Nemours Children’s Hospital. “Hospitals are round-the-clock operations and as a result, they consume a lot of energy. By achieving LEED certification, we can now spend less money on energy and more on our first priority, patient care.”
