In your sight, Lord, the whole world is like a grain of dust that tips the scales, like a drop of morning dew falling on the ground. Yet you are merciful to all, because you can do all things and overlook mens sins so that they can repent. Yes, you love all that exists, you hold nothing of what you have made in abhorrence, for had you hated anything, you would not have formed it. And how, had you not willed it, could a thing persist, how be conserved if not called forth by you? You spare all things because all things are yours, Lord, lover of life, you whose imperishable spirit is in all. Little by little, therefore, you correct those who offend, you admonish and remind them of how they have sinned, so that they may abstain from evil and trust in you, Lord. (R.) I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God. I will give you glory, O God my King, I will bless your name for ever. I will bless you day aſter day and praise your name for ever. (R.) The Lord is kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love. How good is the Lord to all, compassionate to all his creatures. (R.) All your creatures shall thank you, O Lord, and your friends shall repeat their blessing. They shall speak of the glory of your reign and declare your might, O God. (R.) The Lord is faithful in all his words and loving in all his deeds. The Lord supports all who fall and raises all who are bowed down. (R.) We pray continually that our God will make you worthy of his call, and by his power fulfil all your desires for goodness and complete all that you have been doing through faith; because in this way the name of our Lord Jesus Christ will be glorified in you and you in him, by the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. To turn now, brothers, to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and how we shall all be gathered round him: please do not get excited too soon or alarmed by any prediction or rumour or any letter claiming to come from us, implying that the Day of the Lord has already arrived. Alleluia, alleluia! God loved the world so much, he gave us his only Son, that all who believe in him might have eternal life. Alleluia! Jesus entered Jericho and was going through the town when a man whose name was Zacchaeus made his appearance; he was one of the senior tax collectors and a wealthy man. He was anxious to see what kind of man Jesus was, but he was too short and could not see him for the crowd; so he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus who was to pass that way. When Jesus reached the spot he looked up and spoke to him: Zacchaeus, come down. Hurry, because I must stay at your house today. And he hurried down and welcomed him joyfully. They all complained when they saw what was happening. He has gone to stay at a sinners housethey said. But Zacchaeus stood his ground and said to the Lord, Look, sir, I am going to give half my property to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody I will pay him back four times the amount. And Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek out and save what was lost.Do your little bit of good where you are; it is those little bits of good put all together that overwhelm the world.—Bishop Desmond Tutu I will have to wait another week before I fill you all in on Fr Emenes Ordination. It was undoubtedly splendid. You are invited to join him in thanksgiving next Saturday Evening, as advertised on the back of this bulletin. Please note the need to BYO cold drinks, we do not have the ladies on hand to produce the hundred litres of punch that they normally produce. Tea and coffee will be available. The past week or so, our office staff together with the help of volunteers have been compiling the annual All Souls List for placing up on display in the church. This is an extraordinarily time-consuming activity. It is also one that takes place under a certain amount of stress because there are some parishioners who are very quick to complain about a slight mis-spelling or the fact that some family members are not grouped together. I know of no other parish that types up every name and places them on display. The purpose of collecting names for All Souls is not to display them but so that Mass might be offered for their intentions. Indeed, this is the only thing that matters. Even though I understand that some people think that the list on the back wall is important, this is the last year we will be producing such a list. From next year, the names will be typed as they arrive and they will be simply placed on the altar for the offering of the Mass. On a more positive note: Our Lady of Lourdes is having a wonderful year. In a community that oſten seems to be in decline, Lourdes keeps going from strength to strength. In fact, there are now 80 fewer primary school students in our district than five years ago (almost 10%), but Lourdes in this time has increased from 250 to 300 pupils. There are more pupils at Lourdes today than when grade seven was part of primary school. This growth has been recognised by Townsville Catholic Education and they have approved the staffing of Lourdes as a fully two stream school from next year. We have been calling for this for a long time and I am grateful that Cath Ed has supported us this year. Our hope is that with extra classes we create room to keep growing as we have these past few years. Thanks to our staff who have created such a positive culture of care for each child and each family which has made Lourdes such a school of choice in our district. The Catholic Bishops of Australia have announced a National Prayer Campaign for Drought to take place during November. People across the country are encouraged to pray for the gift of rain, for people affected by the drought and to provide practical support, where possible. The Bishops note that large parts of the country are directly affected by the drought, but the impact is national – and so should the response be national. Access resources and find out more at: www.catholic.org.au/drought

The Diocesan Safeguarding Coordinator continues to meet regularly with Parish Priests and Administrators, Safeguarding Representatives and Pastoral Councils to ensure the Catholic National Safeguarding Standards are being applied across all ministries. Parishioners are encouraged to provide feedback on our safeguarding processes and to visit the safeguarding webpage www.tsv.catholic.org.au/safeguarding Your feedback, via the webpage, is directly submitted to the Diocesan Safeguarding Coordinator. You can also speak directly with your Parish Priest or Safeguarding Representative if you prefer. Your involvement and support to our parishes is critical to ensure we put into action, our commitment to protect our most vulnerable and to create a safer environment for everyone. This includes how we apply our safeguarding policy in ministry and how we manage risks. For more information regarding the Safeguarding policy and our processes, please contact Mr Craig Brereton on 4726 3264 or [email protected]

Question:

How can we pray for the dead throughout the year?

Answer:

We commemorate the faithful departed on November 2nd each year. However, we can and should continue to pray for the dead. Our growth in Christian perfection takes a long time. At the time of our death, many of us might not be saints yet. But God, in His mercy, allows for those who love Him to experience purification after death. Our word for that state is Purgatory. It’s the antechamber of heaven, so to speak. We know we’re getting in the house, but we’re not quite ready to go all the way in. There’s rain to shake off our coats and dirt that’s clogging our shoes. Here on earth, we can pray for the souls in Purgatory. One way is to request that your parish offer a Mass for the intention of a specific loved one. We can also remember the departed in our daily prayers. Just as we have special intentions for family and friends here on earth, we can pray for those who have died. It’s also a good act of Christian charity to pray for the forgotten, those who have no one else to pray for them. God knows who they are!

Please Pray For: Brian Winter (Townsville)(died recently), Tony Di Bella, Sebastiano Sorbello, Giuseppe Giliberto, Salvatore Di Bella (annivs at this time) and all those whose names appear on our All Souls List.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls

and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
