Pastor’s column

Are we walking out what we are hearing?

The last two Sunday’s welooked at two differentrealities in our spiritual lives. One is the reality that theDevil is a roaring lionroaming about seekingsomeone to devour, i.e., hehas come to steal, kill, anddestroy. The other reality isthat Jesus Christ has come togive us life, and to give it tous in abundance.

To avoid living in the first reality we must be alertand diligent to respond in faith whenever the Devilimplements schemes against us that he feels certainwill be successful. But how are we to respond? Byfirst understanding that we have a loving Savior thatis presently interceding for each of us and He hasgiven to us the precious Holy Spirit. That is reallyall we need. Now, that being said since Jesus is theWord we really need to know It! And we can onlyknow It if we spend time reading It and meditatingon It.

When we put the right stuff in our minds then wewill output what is overcoming and powerful…anew way of thinking, speaking, and acting! Satan’sgreatest game plan is to get us to doubt the promisesand faithfulness of God. So, remember, anythoughts that cause us to be doubtful and fearful arenot from God. His perfect love cast out all fear, andHis track record of NEVER failing, not even once isthe reality that we need to be walking in. So, don’tdoubt and be overcome by the lie of the evil one butboldly approach the Throne of God for more gracewhenever you need it. May I suggest that is bestdone on a daily basis, and moment to moment!

By the time you read this you will have heard thenext message in this series…’He is able because Heis ‘I AM’. When we are walking in the reality ofabiding in His word we will also realize that He isour everything. God are you my hope? I AM! Godare you my healer? I AM! God are you my deliverer

out of the enemies schemes? I AM! You see, He isthe I AM to our every question, and there is thetruth that will sustain us throughout our walk offaith. We have covered a lot of ground in a shortperiod of time, which begs me to ask our originalquestion again. Are we walking out what we arehearing? Let’s be doers of the Word and not hearersonly.

God Bless!Pastor Mike

The See You at the Pole Story

A small group of teenagers in Burleson, Texas, cametogether for a DiscipleNow weekend in early 1990.They came seeking God and little did they know howpowerfully He was about to move. On Saturday nighttheir hearts were penetrated like never before, whenthey became broken before God and burdened fortheir friends. Compelled to pray, they drove to threedifferent schools that night. Not knowing exactlywhat to do, they went to the school flagpoles andprayed for their friends, schools, and leaders. Thosestudents had no idea how God would use theirobedience.

God used what He did among those teenagers andothers who were holding similar prayer meetings attheir schools to birth a vision in the hearts of youthleaders across Texas. The vision was that studentsthroughout Texas would follow these examples andmeet at their school flagpoles to pray simultaneously. The challenge was named See You at the Pole™ at abrainstorming session during a meeting of key youthleaders. The vision was shared with 20,000 studentsin June 1990 at Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas.

Only God had envisioned how many students wouldstep up to the challenge. At 7:00 a.m. on September12, 1990, more than 45,000 teenagers met at schoolflagpoles in four different states to pray before thestart of school. Reports came into toll-free numberfor days after the first event.

A few months later, a group of youth ministers fromall over the country gathered together for a nationalconference in Colorado. Many of them reported thattheir students had heard about the prayer movementin Texas and were equally burdened for theirschools. No other events had been planned, but itwas clear that students across the country would becreating their own national day of student prayer. There was no stopping them.

On September 11, 1991, at 7:00 a.m., an estimatedone million students gathered at school flagpoles allover the country. From Boston, Massachusetts, toLos Angeles, California, from North Dakota to thetip of Texas, students came together to pray. Somesang, some read Scripture, but most importantly, theyprayed. Like those first students, they prayed fortheir schools, for their friends, for their leaders, andfor their country.

As in all great movements of prayer, See You at thePole™ did not begin in the hearts of people. It beganin the heart of God. God used the obedience of asmall group of teenagers to ignite what has becomean international movement of prayer among youngpeople.

Since 1991, See You at the Pole™ has grown toGod-sized proportions. Within the first few years, themovement began to spread to other nations throughmissionaries from the U.S. Now each year, anestimated 1 million students from all the worldparticipate in See You at the Pole™. Students inmore than 64 countries have participated. In placeslike Canada, Korea, Japan, Turkey, and the IvoryCoast, students are responding to God and takingseriously the challenge to pray.

God is continuing to call His people to repentanceand prayer. Countless inspiring testimonies of howHe has used See You at the Pole™ to bring studentsto Christ and to change lives affirm God’s power toanswer those who cry out to Him in humbledependence. Bible clubs, weekly prayer meetings, and other ministries have begun on campuses wherestudents participated in See You at the Pole™.
