One Day 4-H AccomplishmentsOne Day 4-H was a success in Harrison County. We collected 337 canned food itemswhich weighed 265 lbs. Thanks to Mrs. Tami Alonzo and Gabe Alonzo for collecting192 of the 337 canned food items, and $50 and a $25 Brookshire’s gift card. All fooditems and monies were donated to the Marshall Food Pantry.

Very Busy Months for the Homeschool Club
Events & Activities - September
1. In September, we held our first meeting and had 28 people present, over half of whom were new to 4-H.
2. Tayler Havard and Tami Alonzo manned a 4-H booth at the downtown Camo Expo where they talked tomany about 4-H and distributed 4-H brochures.
3. Our club went on a field trip to Shady Grove Ranch, in Jefferson, where we learned about raising organiccattle, turkeys, chickens and pigs. Some of us also distributed produce to over 700 families through MissionMarshall.
4. Three of our older club members - Tayler Havard, Emma Grace Tew, and Gabriel Alonzo recorded publicservice announcements promoting 4-H to be aired on KMHT.
5. Gabe and Tami Alonzo manned a booth for One Day 4-H in front of Brookshire’s and their generouscustomers donated 192 cans of food, $50 in cash, and the store gave us a $25 Brookshire’s gift card for theMarshall Food Pantry.
Events & Activities - October
1. At our October club meeting, new officers were elected: Tayler Havard as President, Emma Grace Tew asVice President, Gabe Alonzo as Secretary/Treasurer, James Baker as Chaplain, and Julia Lamb as GamePlanner.
2. On October 6-7, Gabe traveled to Dallas to attend a reception and be honored along with all the StateOfficers and Council Members from 4-H, FFA, and FCCLA at the Texas State Fair.
3. Tayler Havard was honored as the 2014-15 Gold Star recipient from Harrison County at the Gold StarBanquet at SFA in Nacogdoches. Gabe Alonzo gave the invocation and assisted at the Banquet.
4. The Homeschool Club went to Dixie Farms, in Shreveport, on a field trip and had great fun getting lost in theCorn Maze, swinging on the Barn Swing, going on a hay ride, and picking pumpkins.
5. We decorated the hall for the County 4-H Awards Banquet. At the banquet, Tayler Havard received theGold Star Award, Emma Grace Tew received the Silver Star Award, Gabriel Alonzo won 1st place for sellingthe most pecans for the Brian McGaughy Memorial Scholarship Fund. Emma, Tayler & Gabe were alsohonored for completing record books, and all three had speaking roles in the Banquet program.
6. Newcomer, Savanah Peteet, Emma and Gabe all participated in the Gregg County Harvest Festival, withGabe serving on the Harvest Festival Junior Advisory Board.
7. Our club will be manning a 4-H booth at the downtown Fall Festival, passing out candy and distributing 4-Hbrochures.
Upcoming Events & Activities - November & December
1. Gabe Alonzo will be speaking to a new 4-H club in Marion County; and he and Emma will be speaking to aMarshall Rotary Club about 4-H.
2. Gabe will be traveling to Brownwood to help with Junior Leadership Lab November 7-9; and also at YESCamp in Palestine the following week.
3. Our club will visit the Pet Place on November 17th, where we will give them needed items we havecollected, as well as go on a tour, possibly view a surgery and walk and play with the animals.
4. Our next club meeting will be at the Extension office on November 10th, at 2:00 p.m.
5. We are currently planning our Christmas program that we will be presenting at the Senior Citizen ActivityCenter in December.
Farm City Week Project Validation.....
Validation for the 2015 Farm City Week goat, swine, and lamb show will be December 13 & 14, 2014 ..... The
following is the time schedule. You are welcome to attend any one of these sessions; pick the one that is
most convenient for you and your family!

Farm City Week Speech Contest.....March 23, 2015
The Harrison County Agri-Business Association and Downs Funeral Home of Marshall will be sponsoring
the contest, including the scholarship. The scholarship can be won multiple times, up to $2,000.00
toward college expenses. There are both Junior and Senior divisions. All entries must be postmarked
no later than the First Monday in March, March 2, 2015. For new updates, entry form, and judging

COUNTY 4-H FOOD EXTRAVAGANZA WORKSHOP
What: County 4-H Food Extravaganza WorkshopWhen: Tuesday, January 6th Where: Harrison County Extension OfficeTime: 6:00 p.m.Purpose: To prepare for the County 4-H Food Extravaganza. The County 4-H Food
Extravaganza will be held on January 13th, at the Harrison County Extensionoffice. Visit the Harrison County 4-H Facebook page for updates.
Zucchini Patties
What You Need:
Utensils:• Cutting board• Knife • Spatula • Measuring cups & spoons• Skillet
Ingredients:
2 cups zucchini, grated2 eggs, beaten¼ cup chopped onion¼ cup all-purpose flour½ cup grated Parmesan cheese½ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded¼ teaspoon saltCooking spray
What to do:
1. Wash your hands and clean your cooking area.2. Wash and grate zucchini and wash and chop onion.3. In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients.4. Mix well enough to distribute ingredients evenly.5. Spray bottom of skillet with cooking spray.6. Drop zucchini mixture onto the skillet set at medium heat.7. Cook for a few minutes on each side until golden brown.
Should make about 12 patties.8. Serve immediately.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 2-4 minutes
