NEW STUDIO AIMS TO ATTRACT

LOW BUDGET PROJECTS

After making nearly twenty low budget movies in

Florida, local filmmaker Gary Davis has opened a

studio dedicated to the no/low budget independent

film market. The Studio is located in Royal Palm

Beach and contains ready-made sets, lights, props

and wardrobes that can be utilized for productions

such as low budget TV commercials, music videos,

local TV shows and movies. “The studio has every-

thing a local moviemaker needs at a price they can

afford,” said Davis.

Last month, the studio hosted two of its first networking events for

actors, models, musicians/artist, dancers, singers, photographers,

filmmakers and the media. There are also open casting calls planned

for several projects including a major TV show, a movie written by

Richard Williams and Gambling on Grace, a movie Davis is making

with collaborator Matthew Pabon. The two of them have already

produced two movies together A Sinner’s Prayer and Fighting for Faith.

NEW AGENCY SPRINGS UP IN PBC

Representing photographers, stylists and makeup artists in Miami,

Broward and Palm Beach counties, Contributing Artists is a

new artist management representation agency located in West

Palm Beach. “Identifying and sourcing South Florida hair and

makeup artists can be challenging, especially in today‟s economy

when production budgets are tight and there‟s no room for a „take

two‟ or minor mistakes,” said Lisa Bruder, Contributing Art-

ists Founder, who is also a professional graphic designer and

owner of Blue Box Design Studio. “The demand for local and reli-

able South Florida production companies is high. Contributing Art-

ists connects the right artist with the project.”

Contributing Artists' work have appeared in

publications such as Palm Beach Illustrated,

Elle and Lucky. Their photographers and styl-

ists have worked on campaigns for compa-

nies such as Macy's and Bloomingdales. For

WANT TO BE IN THE MOVIE BUSINESS?

Palm Beach County (PBC) offers production companies a world-class destination with year-round warm weather, diverse locations and

free production space. In addition, there are many talented crews who live and work in the area. Many South Florida crew people have

attended one of the many film schools located in PBC. The 2008 Student Showcase of Films Animation winner, Alex Duque, re-

turned to his alma mater Digital Media Arts College recently to teach an Adobe workshop. The College gives students the opportu-

nity to train with experts from cutting-edge companies including SEGA and Disney, in facilities equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

Florida Atlantic University recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the first and only all-digital movie theater on a university cam-

pus. The $19 million dollar complex, which also houses classrooms, conference rooms and office space, will be used during the day by

FAU‟s film production program. At Lynn University students are provided with a strong liberal arts education that incorporates hands

-on experience, so students are prepared to assume leadership roles. The degree program in Motion Picture, TV and Video Technology

at Palm Beach Community College provides professional training for those who want to enter the field of Film and Broadcast Pro-

duction. The Palm Beach Film School, a for-profit vocational school, offers intensive training programs that teach students to make

character-driven films. Graduates are even allowed access to the school's equipment, insurance and facilities for their future films. Palm
