These girls aged between 8 and 12 years, trained every week and competed every Monday afternoon in Gympie. Over the year they have developed some impressive skills but more importantly they learnt the importance of team work. On Monday afternoon they took on Victory in the grand final. These students not only played exceptionally well, but represented our school with pride. The first quarter was a close one with Killy Jets up 2 goals to 1. The second and third quarters were all Killy Jets and by the end of the third quarter the girls were leading 6 goals to 1. The fourth quarter was a different story as Victory dug deep and clawed their way back and by the buzzer the score was 6 goals to the Jets and 6 goals to Victory and the girls were going into extra time. Mrs Davies took the 1 minute stoppage time to pull the girls together and although I have no Idea what was said it got the girls pumped up and the extra time was all Killy Jets. Final score 6 points to Victory and 9 point to the Killy Jets, the 2018 netball champions. Congratulations to Lana, Dallas, Molli, Sophie, Kaitlyn, Sofia, Violette, Ruby, Rachel and Mrs Davies. Thank you to Mrs Davies for taking the time to train and support the team every week, as well as to the many supporters who came to Gympie to cheer for the girls during the grand final game. Well done Kilkivan Jets! Wide Bay Trials Update Last week we had three students head away for the Wide Bay trial for athletics. Sasha achieved a personal best throw of over 19m in the discus and managed to come 5 th . Bill competed in both the discus and the shot put and came 8 th in the discus and 10 th in the shot put. Brayden did very well and achieved a 7 th in the 200m sprint. This was a huge effort for these students to be selected to move on to this level. Instrumental Music Reminder that instrumental music is now on Monday for the rest of the term whilst Mrs Morrow has taken long service leave. Queensland Government NAPLAN review. The Queensland Government is undertaking a review of NAPLAN in the Queensland context, to better understand the impacts NAPLAN is having on learning and teaching within the state. The first stage of the Review, conducted in June 2018, focused on consultation with parents. The second stage is now underway, with consultation extending to students, teachers, principals and other key education stakeholders across Queensland. Queensland students in years 3 to 10 are now invited to provide feedback on their experiences with NAPLAN, via an online survey. Students wishing to participate will require the consent of a parent or carer, who can assist with completing the survey at home. The survey link is available at https://survey.lsia.com.au/s3/2018NapRevStudent This project has received ethical clearance from both the Australian Catholic University and the Department of Education. Further information on the student survey and the Review are provided within the survey link. Curriculum At Home This week I have decided to promote the importance of attending every day. We know that there is a direct correlation between attendance and academic gains. The below infographic shows the importance of attending every day. The concerning thing that I see is that if a child misses a day every fortnight then by the time they are in year twelve they have missed an entire year of schooling. By instilling the importance of attending every day, when your child gets a job they are more likely to attend work every day which will certainly help with continued employment.
