    Helping Hands Program Extended

Thanks to the generosity of CI employees, the Helping Hands Program has been extended through June 30, 2010. This program provides assistance to employees who may be in need during this difficult economic time and may help with food, clothing or other necessities for members of employee households .

At the end of December 2009, the program had assisted twenty-one CI families and had received donations from thirteen donors . We thank those donors very, very much .

From now until June 30, 2010, employees can contact HR in Solano Hall for information or to get an application . Applications will also be available at the University Reception Desk in Lindero Hall, or by clicking on the following link: http://www .csuci .edu/hr/index .htm .

Award decisions are made by a small committee of CI employees and Foundation board members . Every effort is made to keep all recipients anonymous . The program has a maximum per family award of $500 per calendar year and individual awards may vary .

Available funds are still limited . Applications should be placed in envelopes and dropped in the boxes available at HR or at the University Reception desk in Lindero Hall . There is no deadline and applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis .

Anyone wishing to contribute to this fund is encouraged to do so by contacting Marti DeLaO, Director of Development, Donor Relations/Annual Fund, at ext. 8919 or marti .delao@csuci .edu.

Annual Conference for Social Justice in Education

The School of Education at CI invites you to attend and/or present at the 2nd Annual Conference for Social Justice in Education . The daylong gathering will be held on our campus on Saturday, April 24, 2010 .

The event has several purposes: to showcase the social justice oriented work being done in and around schools, educational institutions, and in the communities of Ventura County; to network with others who believe in the power and necessity of such work; and to learn from one another about how best to teach and learn in ways that promote equity, peace, and integrity in public education .

The conference will be free of charge and open to the public . All are welcome: teachers, students, parents, administrators, counselors, youth advocates, activists, paraprofessionals, and anyone else in Ventura County who is connected to public education in some way and is also concerned about issues of equity, access, and accountability .

This year’s conference theme is “Brave Questions .” We encourage anyone associated with public education to submit a proposal to present (due February 15, 2010) .

To download the proposal document, register for the conference, get information, post a comment, get directions, or send an email to the planners, go to: www .education4liberation .com .
