Objectives:

We assist and encourage members and

others in the study and enjoyment of earth

sciences and the lapidary arts.

We conduct meetings, lectures and field

trips.

We provide educational exhibits and dis-

plays.

We hold an annual public show.

We support worthwhile projects associat-

ed with the earth sciences sponsored by

local or national organizations.

Meetings:

We meet on the second Sunday of the month

at 2:00 PM at Friendly Connections, 4134 Wil-

liams Dr. , Georgetown. Meetings include an

educational program, business, future plans,

sharing and a snack.

Special Meetings:

Picnic and rock swap in July

Christmas party in December

Field Trips:

We are working hard to increase field trips for

members throughout the year. Field trips may

include educational visits to museums or sites

pertaining to earth sciences as well as collect-

ing trips for minerals and fossils. Field trips

may take place at venues both in and out of

the state of Texas. Each participant on a

WCGMS field trip MUST sign a liability waiv-

er BEFORE participating in the field trip.

The hobby of the rockhound has many dif-

ferent aspects. We are collectors of minerals,

fossils and agates. Some are craftpersons in

many types of lapidary arts including cabbing,

faceting, beading or wire wrapping. Knowledge,

skill and areas of interest are the rockhound’s

personal choice. Some of us are specialists who

collect only a certain type of mineral or fossil.

Others are generalists who look for variety in

specimens and buy, sell or trade to develop

their personal collections. Some of our mem-

bers enjoy showing their personal collections to

others, developing competitive exhibits, or de-

veloping educational exhibits for their own and

other people’s enjoyment.

Come and see what we have to offer you and

expand your interests in minerals, fossils, earth

science or the lapidary arts.

Field trip participants to the Waco Mammoth Site

and fossil collecting at the Waco Pit—October 2010.

Join In The Fun Annual Show:

The WCGMS sponsors a an annual public

show of minerals, gemstones, fossils, lapidary

and other items of interest to the Society.

Non-competitive exhibits are welcome and

encouraged. Dealers representing all aspects

of the hobby are present at the annual show.

Newsletter:

Pickin’s and Diggin’s is the newsletter of the

WCGMS. It informs members of meetings and

other rockhound activities at local, regional

and national levels. It is distributed to all

members in good standing as a paper copy or

via the internet.

Special Activities:

The WCGMS participates and donates to the

American Federation of Mineralogical Socie-

ties Scholarship Fund.
