La camelia in ItaliaOriginaria della Cina, la camelia si pensa sia giunta in Italia, nel 1760, per abbellire i giardini all’inglese del palazzo reale di Caserta, al tempo del re Ferdinando di Borbone. La specie denominata “la camelia di Caserta”, a fiori semplici e rossi, è, infatti, la più vecchia d’Italia.
Of ancient origin from China, the
camellias came to Italy in 1760,
to adorn the English gardens of
Royal Palace in Caserta, when
there was the Kingdom of
“Ferdinando di Borbone”.
The kind of camellias, called
“Camellia of Caserta” ,
with small and red flowers,
is the oldest of Italy.
Il clima mite e umido delle Regioni meridionali favorì uno sviluppo vistoso delle camelie che furono piantate, così, in molte altre località italiane e, perfino al nord, nelle zone circostanti il lago di COMO e il lago MAGGIORE.
The mild and wet climate of
southern Regions promoted
the showy expansion
of camellias.
So the Camellia was cultivated
in many other Italian locations
of North, around
COMO LAKE and
MAGGIORE LAKE.
Dopo un declino di interesse verso la fine del XIX secolo e, in alcuni casi, estirpate o bruciate, alcune specie di camelie trovarono condizioni climatiche ideali nelle zone dei laghi della LOMBARDIA.
Nel 1964, per la fioritura e la bellezza di queste piante, fu organizzata la prima esposizione delle camelie che determinò, nel 1965, la fondazione della Società Italiana della Camelia.

Ancora oggi la coltivazione delle camelie è molto praticata, principalmente, sulle rive costiere dei laghi lombardi; sono molto rinomate, per varietà, bellezza e colore, le camelie del Lago Maggiore.
Still today the growing of
camellias is most practised,
especially along shorelines
of lombardy lakes.
For beautiful, variety, colour
and exotic plants, including
the camellias, the gardens of
MAGGIORE LAKE,
are well-known
in all over the world.
There are
150 kinds of
CAMELLIAS, in various
colours,
White,
Cream
Red,
Yellow
Pink,
Fucsia,
in many
shades.
Camelia ibrida Di questi magnifici fiori esistono esemplari di 150 specie, in vari colori, dal bianco al cremisi, dal rosa al rosso.
Tree of lemon
with
leaves and fruit.
This tree is grown
around coastline of
Garda Lake:
here there is a town
called
“Limone sul Garda”.

and in Sicily.
