CONTENTS NEWSLETTER

Hello all, I hope this newsletter finds all of you doing well. I want to start off by wishing all of you and your families a Happy New Year!! I love the holidays, but it is nice to be back in the swing of things.

It was great to see some of you at our Annual Driver Meetings in El Paso as well as attend the Driver of the Year Banquet. Again congratulations to Jose Gonzalez and Victor Villanueva, Team Drivers of the Year, and David Tackitt, Solo Driver of the Year. Great Job Guys!!

This year has taken off or started well. It has been much better than years past. The best we

can tell at this point we look to be running about 7.5 percent ahead of last year. Had it not been for some of the issues at the Ports in Southern California, I feel like it would have been better! While they have not resolved all of the issues it appears they have agreed on some of the issues and freight appears to be getting unloaded a little quicker off of the ships.

We have been receiving some new equipment this month and will continue to do so throughout the year. So far we have received 15 new tractors and 10 new trailers.

We have been pretty fortunate as of this writing (Jan 30th) not to have had too much bad weather. We will pray that our winter continues to be mild so that the roads do not get slick. If you do encounter some bad weather please be safe, slow down, and if you feel it is not safe to drive please find a safe spot and pull over. I am looking forward to a good year in 2015 and with the group of folks that we have here in our DHT Family it should be one of the best ever.

Please be safe out there on the highway and may God bless each of you and your families!!Keep on Trucking Safely!!!Joe HermanPresident of Danny Herman Trucking, Inc.

In typical January fashion we saw 2015 come out of the gates slow for the first couple of weeks. This was inflated due to the issues at the Port in Long Beach which had ships stacked up waiting to unload. But as we approach the end of January things have recovered nicely and in fact we will exceed last January in miles per truck! It looks as though 2015 is going to be another strong year.

As we start a new year I have a couple of basic items to touch on. First, please weigh every load no matter what the bills say the weight is. There is no law that states that the weight has to be correct and many times we see loads that show 18000 lbs. on the bill of lading and are actually overweight. DHT will pay for weight tickets so we ask that you weigh every load to prevent unnecessary costs and tickets. The second item is making sure you manage your time off per company policy. Everyone receives 1 ½ days off for every 7 days that you work. You can accumulate these days and use them as you please. We have designed this to provide more days than most other companies because we do realize that home time is very important to a lot of you.

2015 is going to be an exciting year for DHT. There are many improvements that are being made at terminals to provide better facilities for you. We will be restructuring in our operations department to better serve our customers which includes our drivers and our external customers, and we are upgrading our trailer and tractor fleet! Basically, 2015 will bring about a lot of positive changes that will continue to make DHT the best place to work in the industry.

This is an exciting time for the members of the DHT family. As we all work together to improve in our areas, we will continue to separate ourselves as the premier company in the transportation industry. There is no better team in my opinion to accomplish our goals and I look forward to the great things to come. I wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2015!

Blake Grindstaff, VP of Operations

An Exciting Year at DHT

Hi everyone and Happy New Year to you and your family! 2015 has started well and it looks like we are off to another good year. I am looking forward to what it holds for us as we enter into our 2nd year of growth in our 10 year vision. It still looks like we, the trucking industry, will have several productive years ahead as the economy corrects and improves in the months and

years to follow!

We have a great group of drivers and our recruiting team in doing an outstanding job keeping the trucks full with quality drivers!

We will continue to add driver-friendly freight with miles. We began shifting back to this model last year and will continue going forward. I know that loads with more miles works better for everyone and keeps your wheels turning.

Drive safe, be aware of other motorist and allow time for the winter weather. As I write this we are seeing a snow blizzard crossing the northeast.

Thank you for your continued commitment to DHT. You are the brand and spokesperson for our company. May God bless you and your family this year, and I hope this be your best year ever!

Hello to everyone and welcome to 2015! This year got here fast, and they seem to come quicker as time moves along. We have a lot of things happening in various locations, mainly to upgrade and make things better for our driving fleet. We have restrooms and showers either being installed and/or being upgraded in Nogales and Laredo. We’ll also do some things in El Paso in the next few months again.

We just finished some cement repairs in El Paso to include widening the exit lane from the terminal. We will be putting down a cement product in the Nogales yard that will alleviate most of the dirt surface. The weather and rain we are getting there now is causing a delay, as it’s keeping some water in some parts of the terminal. All of these things are costly and we’ve had them planned for a while now, and they are budgeted so we can pay for the projects as we go. We thank everyone for your patience and hope you

will enjoy and use the facilities once they are completed.

I want to remind everyone that we are still looking for more qualified trainers, and especially from the women drivers we have in the fleet. We know that we have a number of ladies that would make good trainers to train women that want to enter our training program. Anyone interested in training, women or men, either get with your Fleet Manager or with CJ Peterson or Leila Brown who are our recruiters in Mountain City and El Paso.

Also please remember the referral program we have that can pay big money for a current driver to refer a new driver to join the fleet. We have already paid $35,350.00 in referral pay since the first week of January!! Ask for some tri-folds at one of the terminals so when you are asked what it’s like to drive for DHT, you can give that person one and include your

name and truck number on the back. When they call a recruiter to join the company, they’ll be asked then if anyone referred them and they can then give your name.

We feel that our drivers are our best advertisement we can have, and we’re proud that so many do refer drivers to join us. We also feel that we’d rather pay our people referral money that to try to lure people in with sign-on bonuses. The referral rates are $1,100/solo, $1,500/team driver and $3,000 for a team to come on. For the details, please contact either one of our recruiters.

Shiny sides up out there on the highway, and we all appreciate what you do for us!

Donald Hopson, VP of Western Operations and Driver Development

Hello everyone, I am Sharon Winters and I keep track of all Inspections and Tickets. I also am the person responsible for signing the inspections and mailing or

faxing back within 15 days. I do not sign off on it without proof of repair. After signing off on them, I file them with the proof of repair attached to it in case Steve in Safety or anyone else needs to see them.

Maintenance records must be retained for one year at the location where the vehicle is stored and six months after the vehicle is sold according to the Motor Carrier Transportation Division.

Please do your inspections! Stop by our shops every time you pass by so the Safety Lane can be done. The better inspections you and our DHT shops do will prevent us from getting bad inspections and keeps our CSA Scores where they need to be.

Congratulations on all who had NO violations!! Keep up the good work but please don’t forget to send them to me!

You can put the inspection in TripPak, take it to Bertha at El Paso Terminal, or give to Jean at Lebanon Terminal and they will send it to me. IF you have repairs that needs to be done, please show the shop foreman so repairs can be done before you leave one of our shops.

Call me any time if you have questions or concerns, or if you just want to know if I received it!

Thank you,Sharon in Maintenance

5 Ter minal News

Looking Forward to a Good Year in 2015

News from Lebanon! We would like to welcome all of our new drivers to Lebanon Terminal and say hello to all of our other drivers and friends! We are family focused at our terminal as you see with our pictures of loved ones, and we treat all of Danny Herman Trucking drivers and employees this way as well! We are all part of the DHT Family! So hello and welcome!

Here are a few instructions/helpful hints when coming to the Lebanon Terminal:

The new Trailer Registration packets are available in the office, and if you don’t already have a fuse kit they are available in the shop. The spare tire key is also the trash dumpster key here at Lebanon Terminal. Please remember to put your Trippaks in the office door slot after hours. Please do not put your Trip envelopes in the black mailbox on porch. The only thing that goes in the black mailbox is load information for the next driver picking up that load. And finally, the Video Training and login instructions are available in the office, just ask Jean and she will be glad to help you!

One more reminder: Please be considerate to the new drivers that are in orientation, and do not interrupt Orientation when in progress. Thank you so much and we will see you soon!

And remember... “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” Colossians 3:23

This year has gotten off to a slow start in Fontana and Nogales, but the worst seems to be behind us now as we have seen freight starting to increase! We appreciate your patience through this slow time of the year, and we look forward to what is to come in 2015!

We have just a few suggestions and requirements as you are coming into the yards. Please make sure you drop off all of the paper work for every load that gets T-called at the yards, and when coming into the Nogales terminal, please pull your trailer through our inspection lane. We realize that we have delays that are out of everyone’s control, like weather and breakdowns, so if you will just let us know about these delays when they happen, we can make sure to inform our customers of the delay and then reschedule any appointments if needed. This is important for many reasons for DHT and our customers and if we

all work together we can do our best in every situation!

Lastly, we are happy to announce that by the time this article is out, the showers should be up and running in our terminal in Nogales. Thanks for all you do for DHT... let’s make this a great year!!!!

Mountain City News!

A Tribute to John RobinsonJohn Robinson started working for Danny Herman Trucking on April 2, 1988! For over 26 years he has been a faithful employee, a diligent Fleet Manager, a friend to all and a mentor to many. John was very dedicated to his job and his attendance record proved it! Even when he had to be out of work of medical reasons he always returned even sooner than expected! John was such a good friend to everyone he worked with, he was always the first one to offer help to anyone in need. He truly treated everyone at DHT as part of his family! He was also a good role model to the new dispatchers that would come into the company. They all look up to him and highly respect him! Do You Have Time for a Change? “The purpose of life is a life of purpose.” ~ Rober t Byrne

It’s quite true that we all have the same amount of time in a day. No one has more than 24 hours. Yet sometimes we want more! Have you ever said, “There just aren’t enough hours in a day!?”

We’re not alone in this and many wise people have pursued better time management skills as the means to extend the day and accomplish more. Benjamin Franklin—who kept a very detailed daily journal to track his activities—was quite interested in this and he accomplished a lot in his lifetime. Yet, like many of us, he worried that interruptions to planned activities would make his schedule ineffective.

In the 1950’s, a printing company that later became known as “Day-Timer” began producing a planner that had been customized for lawyers. Later, these wire-bound booklets were adapted for others to help us all get more out of a day!

Then, in 1990, author Stephen Covey published The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, which sold more than 10 million copies, and another highly effective person became a highly effective promoter—with the Franklin Covey system being marketed worldwide. Yet, despite all of the various tools and techniques, there remains the desire to “squeeze” more tasks into the day in the hope of getting more out of the day.

It’s important to ask if getting more out of life is the same as accomplishing more. If they’re one and the same, then better time management skill is the solution and there are many tools and tips available to help develop this skill. But if our real desire is to live each day more fully, then maybe what we really need is not just better time management but better life management. And this requires a different mindset and a lot more thinking about purpose, rather than about projects and performance.

Here’s a simple tool to help us think more about life management based on the word “LIFE”:

L = Learning: Each moment and circumstance is an opportunity to learn. If you love to learn you’ll find a greater love for all of what life brings and approach each situation with an open mind toward becoming better through it.

I = Intentionality: Set your mind and heart upon a very real purpose for why you’re here and discipline yourself to fulfill that purpose.

F = Faith: If you believe only in yourself, then your life’s focus will be very small and selfish. If you believe outside of yourself, in a God who is greater than you with a greater purpose, then your life’s purpose will be like His.

E = Engagement: We must decide if we’re givers or takers. Surprisingly it’s the givers that get more out of life. Engage with others and be a giver of yourself and you’ll know the wonder of getting so much more in return.

If you desire to “squeeze” more life out of your day, share that desire with your chaplain. Together you may find great ideas to help keep you on purpose, and you may even find more hours in the day! ~ Article by S.H. with edits by S.B. Save Time image from Dreamtime.com.

I wanted to pass on some information in this newsletter that I thought pertained to an area that can directly impact DHT and DHTL. NAFTA has been in the works for over 20 years. The NAFTA program was signed back in 1994 and was to open the border between the US and Mexico to motor carriers. This has failed to happen fully thus far. Below is a summary of findings that were recently determined. It looks like this is something that could affect transportation, especially those who operate closely to the border.

US-MEXICAN TRUCKINGThe North American Free Trade Agreement (“NAFTA”), signed in 1994, was supposed to open the border between the U.S. and Mexico to motor carriers. Over two decades later, it still has not happened.

On January 9, 2015 the Department of Transportation (“DOT”) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (“FMCSA”) announced that “Mexican motor carriers will soon be able to apply for authority to conduct long-haul, cross-border trucking services in the United States, increasing economic and export opportunities between the two countries, and marking a significant milestone in implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.”

From the January 9, 2015 press release:The policy change is expected to result in the permanent termination of more than $2 billion in annual retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods and follows a three-year pilot program that tested and validated the safety of Mexican trucking companies to operate long-haul in the U.S. The Department also submitted a report to Congress with findings from the pilot program today.

Cross-Border Future for DHT Logistics

10

Fifteen trucking companies from Mexico enrolled in the pilot that concluded in October, crossing the border more than 28,000 times, traveling more than 1.5 million miles in-country, and undergoing more than 5,500 safety inspections by American officials. Data collected on the pilot carriers, and an additional 952 Mexican-owned trucking companies that also operated long-haul in the U.S. during the same 36-month period under a pre-existing authority, showed that companies from Mexico had violation, driver, and vehicle out-of service rates that met the level of safety as American and Canadian-domiciled motor carriers.

In 2001, a NAFTA Dispute Settlement panel ruled the U.S. was not in compliance with the cross-border trucking provisions of the agreement. After a 2009 appropriations bill halted a previous demonstration project, Mexico exercised its option to take retaliatory measures, granted by a NAFTA Arbitration Panel, and imposed more than $2 billion in annual tariffs on exports of U.S. agriculture, personal care products and manufacturing goods. Mexico suspended the tariffs after the new pilot program began in 2011, and previously committed to terminate the tariffs permanently when U.S.-Mexican trucking operations are normalized. Companies from Mexico that apply for long-haul operating authority will be required to pass a Pre-Authorization Safety Audit to confirm they have adequate safety management programs in place, including systems for monitoring hours-of-service and to conduct drug testing using an HHS-certified lab. Additionally, all drivers must possess a valid U.S. Commercial Driver’s License or a Mexican Licencia Federal de Conductor, and must meet the agency’s English language proficiency requirements. Like Canadian companies that are granted U.S. operating authority, carriers and drivers from Mexico are required to comply with all laws and regulations, including regular border and random roadside inspections. Once the motor carrier is approved, their vehicles will be required to undergo a 37-point North American Standard Level 1 inspection every 90 days for at least four years.

In 2002, Congress appropriated funding to DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to hire new staff for additional Southern Border enforcement to meet the long-haul trucking provisions in NAFTA. Currently, there are more than 200 inspectors and staff in the region that will continue to oversee the safety of cross-border operations into the country. American trucking companies have been able to apply and operate long-haul in Mexico through NAFTA since 2007. Currently, five U.S. companies use this authority to transport international goods into Mexico. More information on today’s announcement can be found in FMCSA’s Federal Register notice. This announcement does not end the controversy that has surrounded this issue for the past two decades. It remains to be seen just what the impact will be. Vicki Fifield, Director of Logistics

Safety is our goal for 2015I hope this newsletter finds you well. It would seem that we have had a pretty good start to the New Year. Our drivers meeting in El Paso the week of Jan. 5th was a big success; it was good to see all of you that were able to attend. It is always nice to be able to sit and talk with all of you when we have the opportunity. It gives me a chance to get feedback on what is really happening out on the road and what current needs we may have as a fleet in the world of safety.

Along with the New Year starts the Safety Bonus over again. I just want to remind all of you what needs to be done in order to be eligible for the safety bonus.

The safety bonus is paid out quarterly and annually. You cannot have any Preventable Accidents/Incident’s during the quarter, No citations (written or warnings) for an Unsafe Driving violation and you must watch all of the videos assigned on the DHT University during each month. If you get knocked out of the bonus for one quarter you may still be eligible for the next quarter; however, you will not be eligible for the annual bonus. You must obtain the bonus for all 4 quarters to get the annual safety bonus.

We did have a few drivers that did not get their bonus in 2014 simply because they did not watch the videos. Please don’t give your bonus money up because of the videos. When I assign the videos at the beginning of each month I keep to 4 or 5 short videos which equal around 30 – 35 minutes per month. Each video is around 2 – 12 minutes long and then a short 1 – 5 question. You can watch the videos on a smart phone, tablet, laptop or desk top computer; anywhere you can get an internet signal. If you do not have any of those devices, we have a tablet at each of the terminals available for you to use, just ask! I will include the instructions to sign into the DHT University in this newsletter.

CSA UPDATEGreat news, as of the February update we are now below the threshold in “Unsafe Driving” we are now at 54% with a threshold of 60%. Great job everybody, please keep it up! It is our goal to get that score below 30% which we should have no problem doing, we were there for the first 4 months of last year!

New Mexico is still our problem state with most of the violations occurring on route 54 & 70. Please use extra care when in this area.

Moving Maintenance to the Next Level in 2015

Indiana has also stepped up their enforcement for these types of violations.

All of you need to do the speed limit and obey all traffic laws no matter where you are. Safety is our first goal and we want you to get home to your families and we want the public you share the roads with to get home safely as well. It is a fact that with your training and holding a professional license you are held to a higher standard. Please do the right thing and drive accordingly.

Until we see you again, be safe. Drive to stay alive.

God Bless, Steve Frantz, Director of Safety
