From products to solutionsThe Customer Orientation program is rooted in a commitment to putting customers first. The overarching aim is to understand customers’ needs and expectations, and to devise timely solutions. The program was launched in 2011 to institutionalize a new, customer satisfaction-centered corporate culture throughout every level and function of the Group.

Shared toolsTo continue to make progress, Nexans uses a CRM(1) tool to manage relationships with customers shared throughout the Group, common standards and performance indicators, harmonized satisfaction surveys and competency models for the sales and marketing teams.

Service makes all the differenceNexans has developed a number of services to fully meet customers’ expectations and foster customer loyalty: grouping orders together for distributors, delivering ready-to-install cables to equipment manufacturers, offering turnkey power line solutions for network managers, training installers, managing consignment inventories, and recycling.

2011 – 2012 Initiatives• A joint venture was created with Alstom in Morocco for the railway market.• Nexans decided to open a plant specialized in extra high-voltage solutions in the United States – given that demand is expected to more than double in this market by 2020.• Nexans acquired AmerCable, the North American leader in cables for the rapidly developing mining equipment, oil & gas, and renewable energy markets.• Production capacity for special cables for industrial applications in China was increased, and an acquisition is underway to serve the world’s largest energy infrastructure market in the world.

• ICEFLEX®, resists extremely cold temperatures (down to -50°C) on ships and offshore oil rigs.

Efficiency and OperationsWe are rolling out a worldwide industrial excellence program, aimed at guaranteeing products of impeccable quality at the best possible cost and full and timely deliveries for our customers, as well as safe working conditions for our employees.

Nexans is adjusting its operational processes to become more competitive, more flexible and more efficient, for the benefit of customers. Key aspects of the Nexans Excellence Way industrial program are management and employee commitment, and standardization and the swift rollout of best practices.

Commit to Excellence

Quality The scrap rate has fallen by 25% in two years, to a percentage of production value of 4.8%.

ServiceNexans appointed a supply chain manager for each market line in Europe.

Information systemsNexans is unifying its information systems to make them simpler, more unified and more efficient.

Productive safety measuresThe workplace accident frequency rate is the primary monthly key indicator used by the plants. 2009 saw the successful launch of an ambitious program to improve safety: within three years, the accident frequency rate has been divided by three to 8.3(1) in 2011, a 20% improvement.

Nexans Excellence Technology2011 saw the launch of 10 cross-functional Nexans Excellence Technology networks. The themed networks are intended to quicken the exchange of best practices and standards between plants using the same industrial processes.

Rigorous managementLess consumption, better production: Nexans’ policy of continuous improvement aims to reduce the footprint of the Group’s operations. In accordance with ISO 14001, the environmental management system is used by all Group sites. Nexans is a pioneer in recycling and has put in place a comprehensive solution to recycle end-of-life cables.

Sustainable solutionsThe Group uses eco-friendly design to develop products that both meet customers’ needs and have a minimal impact throughout their life cycle. Nexans is committed to providing solutions that enhance the safety of both people and equipment, reduce energy loss and fuel consumption, facilitate the development of renewable energies, and safeguard both landscapes and marine life.

Solidarity and sponsorshipNexans is committed to using its skills and cabling solutions to improve the living conditions of underprivileged populations. The Group and its employees actively contribute to the training of young people through courses, work placements, scholarship and sponsorship. Nexans also participates in the preservation and showcasing of France’s historical and cultural national heritage through its sponsorship commitments.

Partnership with Electricians Without Borders, Nexans is to supply half of the association’s cable requirements for a three-year period.

Nexans renovated the electricity networks of the Palace of Versailles within its sponsorship. The Group is also offering the Louvre-Lens Museum energy and data cables as a major Building sponsor. The museum open its doors in December 2012.

Governance: Ernst & Young distinguishes Nexans In 2011, for the second consecutive year, Nexans’ corporate governance practices

were rated “Very good” by Ernst & Young. The Group’s overall score of 17.75/20 (compared with 16.25 in 2010) placed Nexans in the top 10% of the CAC 40 and SBF 120 companies reviewed.
