    Many young people are now gaining access to technology in a variety of educational settings. However,access to technology is not enough. Youth need an engaging way to learn the skills that will help themsucceed in a knowledge economy.

    The Intel Learn Program was developed with governments and non-governmental agencies to meetthe speci c needs of youth in underserved communities. Intel Learn extends learning opportunities beyondthe classroom, in an informal setting. The program, delivered through local community centers, includeslearner curriculum and structured training for the community center staff.

    Our goal: helping youth in communities with little access to technology, develop 21st century skills, such ascomputer literacy, critical thinking, and collaboration, so that they are prepared to succeed in todays work -place.

    p oj ct Ba d, Commu ty DThe Intel Learn Program has more than 90hours of engaging curriculum built aroundthree core modules that tap into childrensinterest in their own communities whilenourishing their curiosity with creative,technology-driven projects. The themesof the curriculum also help foster personaland civic responsibility, demonstrating to

    learners how they can contribute to theircommunities and to their own economicself-sufficiency.

    T ch olo y a d Commu ty introduceslearners to technology skills such asword processing, graphics, spreadsheets,multimedia, and Internet research. Throughactivities and projects, learners discoverhow the effective use of computers canhelp improve their communities. Examplesof projects include creating communitycalendars, news articles, and presentations

    that address local community issues ofinterest to the learners. (Target ages8-16)

    T ch olo y at Wo k shows learnershow computers are used in a varietyof jobs and careers. Using increasinglysophisticated software tools, learnerscreate projects ranging from designinga survey that a healthcare worker mightuse to assess health needs, to developinga project management plan that a localengineer might create before startinga building project. (Target ages 13-18)

    T ch olo y a d e t u h introduces learners to basic conceptsand process of entrepreneurship, anddemonstrates how technology can beused to advance a business idea. UsingInternet tools and office applications,learners research and formulate a businessidea, and create and present a businessplan for their idea. (Target ages 14-25)

    Intel Learn program is part of Intelseducation initiative. The program

    currently exists in more than a dozencountries, including Argentina, Brazil,

    Chile, China, Egypt, India, Israel,Malaysia, Mexico, Palestine, Russia,

    Turkey, and the Ukraine and hasreached more than a million learners.

    The comprehensive staff training hasserved as a valuable introduction to afacilitative approach to instruction. TheLearn program has served as a model

    for new forms of teaching and learning,where learners are more actively en-gaged in their own learning.

    Intel Education Initiative offers free pro-grams and resources for Elementary andSecondary Education, Higher Education,and Community Education for youth.

    While Intel Learn is delivered in an informallearning environment, the curriculum iscarefully designed to develop a youngpersons digital literacy and connection tocommunity. Students work in small groupson projects, solving problems of personalinterestthereby learning the power ofcollaboration and teamwork, a key 21stcentury skill.

    Learners gained significant skills in planning, designing, problem-solving,and collaborating within a project-basedlearning framework.

    Learners were highly engaged and motivated. 97 percent of participantlearners complete the Intel LearnPrograman exceptional rate for avoluntary, community-based program.
