In Newspaper Design

Type is only one aspect of paper design. While newspapers depend on type to tell the story in words, other graphics are also used to bring the story to life.

In addition to type, designers use:

•Lines

•Photographs/Artwork

•White space

•Maps can present dull, dry facts in a much more exciting or appealing way than just listing them in a story.

•Information graphics, or ‘infographics’, as they are commonly called, are used to present information in a pleasing, easy-to-see way.

•Remember that research has shown that more people look at graphic illustrations and photographs than read the articles accompanying them!!!

•It makes sense to use these tools to present important facts.

So remember Don’t be afraid to use some white space to

keep the page clear! Use charts or graphs to make dull

information interesting! Use pictures wherever possible – what did

Beckham’s haircut look like? Use a logo to give your paper an individual

feel.
