Leadership

To settle a dispute about who was the greatest among

them, Jesus said, “. . . the one who is the greatest among

you must become like the youngest, and the leader like

the servant.” Luke 22:24-26.

We recently held one of our semiannual In Mo-

tion Leadership Training Seminars. I am blessed to be

able to say that 22 people came from 4 different states to

take part in this intense weekend. Plus, there are others on the

list that come when they can. We work them hard. Much is re-

quired of them. To become a Certified Team Leader for IMM

one must have gone as a team member on an IMM mission trip,

regularly attend IMLT’s, serve on several mission trips as an as-

sistant, prove to us they are prepared, and confidently feel them-

selves that they are prepared to lead a team.

WHEN: JULY 5 TO JULY 14, 2012 COST: $1985 PER PERSON (LEAVING FROM Denver, CO) WHO: OPEN TO ALL In Motion Ministries has developed a relationship with missionaries that serve the island of Angoon in Alaska. Your team will spend 5 days on this island repairing and painting a missionary house. This house is used as a home for mission teams that come to serve the people of Angoon. Your help is the difference between this home lasting for years to come or it falling into disrepair for good. The winters are fierce on this island and the house will not withstand another one. You will be part of hosting a meal for the whole community and lead an outreach service for them. You will spend time with kids and stu-dents on the beach by a fire, just getting to know them and telling them about Jesus. Your mission adventure in Angoon will leave a last-ing impact on you and the community you will serve. Team members will all meet in Juneau on July 5th. You will be intro-duced to the missionary and buy supplies for the week. You will train with IMM’s certified team leader for one day to prepare to serve the people of Angoon. The next day, you will ride the ferry up the inside passage to get to the island. Your team will be staying at a church, so you will need an air mattress, sleeping bag and pillow! This mission trip will resemble a camping trip in one of the most beautiful places on earth! What a blessing you will be to these people. Although it is beautiful, it is also desolate and lonely. These people need you; they need to experience the love of God that you will bring to them through your actions and your smiles. Free Day—we did not build the cost of your free day into your per person team budget. Alaska offers many great activities that are virtu-ally free or you could take advantage of the amazing experience of a rafting trip up the river near Juneau. This trip takes you right next to the glaciers then through a river with mild rapids. Angoon has incred-ible fishing opportunities; you can choose to spend some free time fishing off the island, if that is your passion. Wildlife—the trip through the Inside Passage will most likely give eve-ryone the opportunity to see whales and a variety of wildlife. The is-land of Angoon does have bears that live on it, so you will get to see them without a doubt.

Leadership ...Continued from p.1 This takes sacrifice of time, effort, money, and often vacation days. I

salute each and every one of them. They truly are the ‘greatest

among them’ - - - they are servants.

We all have areas of leadership in our life. It may seem like a simple

position or it may seem monumental to you, but it is an opportunity

to serve. I would encourage you today to take stock of your personal

opportunities to lead/serve. What is your attitude? Those who

sought recognition from Jesus wanted to be pointed out as superior

to others. The response from Jesus was exactly the opposite of what

they were looking for. A leadership position should never be a title;

rather, an opportunity.

Consider the stay-at-home mom with toddlers. It’s easy to see the

‘serve’ part when you think of the diapers, the laundry, the cleaning

up, the endless answering of ‘why?’ and the 24/7 duty. However,

look at the opportunity in this service. She is shaping a life, a life

that has the potential to change

the world in a variety of ways.

She is shaping attitudes, belief

systems, compassion, responsi-

bility, and above all love for God

and love for people. Everyone

has areas of the mundane, not-

so-fun parts of their life; but

seek out the opportunities in

even that.

Help Us Connect

In order to be a leader/servant in our daily lives we must first

develop our own personal, loving relationship with God.

When one is living a genuine life of integrity from a loving

heart it will cause people to want to follow and mimic the life

they see before them. One of the text books that we use in our

training for In Motion Ministries Team Leaders is “Leadership

That Builds People” by Dr. James Richards. A powerful theme

in this book is: “Will I use people to build my ministry, or will

I use my ministry to build people?” You can use this same

guideline in any walk of life. Will I use people to build (my

job, my circle of friends, my image, my family, etc.) or will I use

my life and example to build people?

By Norma Dunn

Sometimes people think the

only way they can support In

Motion Ministries is to give

money or to pray. But you can

also help us connect with oth-

ers!

Please consider giving in-

formation about In Motion

Ministries to pastors, staff at

Christian schools, friends,

family members and others

you think might like to partic-

ipate in short-term missions.

IMM can provide you with

printed brochures, e-mail con-

tent or simply direct them to

our Facebook page or website.

We appreciate any effort

you make to help IMM con-

nect with people with whom

you are in relationship.
