certificate. All these done by 13 months old.

River Wellsandt titled Trick Dog Intermediate 5/9 and Advanced on 5/10. At CDTC. He had fun showing fun and obedient skills that are classified as tricks :) For Intermediate Trick Dog besides the selection of tricks on AKC Checklist, River must do 2 of Handler's choice. 1st : The Judge gave River a full peanut butter sandwich, wrapped in paper towel. Told him "Take it to Chris". He went 12 ft across the room and delivered to Chris as instructed to do without any attempt to eat it himself.:) 2nd: A put a dog cookie was placed on River's nose. He was left in a stay while Chris walked about 5 to 6 ft. way & returned. w/o River dropping it off his nose :) The Advanced Trick Dog the two tricks of choice were: 1st: River was told to select 4 toys out of a pile of his toys upon the name given to him by Chris. 2nd: The one that is most fun/ for laughs was River showing how a dog can play "Stomp Rocket". Chris enjoys playing all these games at home with interaction bonding with River. AGILITY Titles. After a long slump River has popped to qualifying in 4 trials in Spring, adding some extra Q's towards a Bronze.. Chris now thinks he suffers from her Winter /lack of sun and gray day syndrome. June 3, at our own club's trial, River passed his 10th Master Excellent Jumpers Preferred test qualifying him to proudly add to his list of diversified titles a MXJP. June 10, River qualified by passing his 10th Master Excellent Preferred test at the Up N Over Agility Club trial. June 17th at the German Wirehaired Pointer Club he earned his 5th double Q.

Taggit (owned by Marlene Mailloux, handled by Cathi Winkles) finished his first agility MACH on May 27 at Companion DTC trial. Ty earned his agility MACH8 on June 16 at Ft Detroit German Wirehaired Pointer Club trial.

Note from a Student

Sportsmen’s Dog Training Club of Detroit, Inc. 1930 Tobsal Ct. Warren, MI Dear Barb Popyk, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Sportsmen’s Dog Training Club for an excellent Beginner Dog Obedience experience for our two dogs, Max and Beemer. Rene’ Sutton is an outstanding trainer who has a special gift of relating to dogs and people. She was able to “win Beemer over” after a previous traumatic experience at another training facility. Rene’ modeled the correct manner in which to handle our dogs with the help of her beautifully trained Duncan. She was an inspiration to us throughout our six-week experience. We have now signed up for Good Canine Citizen Training Class at Sportsmen’s. I am sure Rene’ will be a hard act to follow, but we are so happy to have found Sportsmen’s and hope to continue for many more successful class experiences. With gratitude, Steve and Mary Murphy Max and Beemer cc: Rene’ Sutton

CPR SEMINAR The Seminar was a great success. There were ten members and four groomers. The four hours went quickly with a short break and lunch. Just a few of the things were learned were how to do CPR on our stuffy dogs, how to muzzle a dog, what to put in a first aid kit and the Snout to Tail Assessment of our dogs. A booklet and certificate were given to all who attended. Would we do it again?? You bet. Thanks to Lara Latshaw for her knowledge and enthusiasm. If it weren't for Chip Black there would not be a seminar. It was her idea. Again, thanks to Chip for her generous donation for our lunch and breakfast. Mary Jane Woodworth helped me set up the tables and helped with the lunch. Virginia Smith, unsolicited, helped me clean up! Thanks to all. We discussed making a First Aid kit for dogs for the club and also selling kits for both small and large dogs as a fundraiser. Need a committee for that!!! Barbara ! 8; Chip CPR Committee
