" Today too, amid so much darkness, we need to see the light of hope and to be men and women who bring hope to others’ - Pope Francis (from his Inauguration Mass) Supporting Christ’s Church in your Parish… Parish Prayer Intentions Pope Francis’ Universal Intention for April: That governments may foster the protection of creation, and the just distribution of natural resources. Pope Francis’ Evangelising Intention for April: That the Risen Lord may fill with hope the hearts of those who are being tested by pain and sickness. Our Parish Prayer Intention for this week: For the young children and their teachers of faith in all three of our excellent Catholic parish primary schools, that they may grow always closer to the Risen Jesus. Father Conor’s Prayer Intention for this week: For all who live in the darkness of unbelief, and those who have lapsed from the Catholic faith for any reason, that they might come to know the crucified and risen Lord Jesus, present in power at Sunday Mass, and accept the deep peace and lasting joy only he can give. WWW.LISDOON.IE WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/LISDOON From the Pastor’s Desk… He must rise from the dead. The Gospel of Matthew 20:9 First Reading: Acts of the Apostles 10:34, 37-43 Psalm: 117:1-2, 16-17, 22-23. R/ v. 24 Second Reading: Colossians 3: 1-4 In Loving Memory Our faith teaches us that having Mass offered for our beloved departed especially on their anniversaries and the weeks after their death, is a way of expressing our own ongoing love for them. It is also a clear witness to our faith in the power of Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection to heal them from sin, liberate them from the grave and raise them up whole and transfigured for holy and eternal communion with the Blessed Trinity, Our Lady, the saints and angels in the joy of heaven. This power becomes present before us on the altar of every Mass. Families gathered for memorial Masses are asked to review the parish memorial list a week in advance and come to the sacristy to let the priest know before Mass if there are any errors or omissions. Family members are also encouraged to volunteer to bring the bread and wine to the altar at the offertory of their family memorial Mass. A selection of Mass Cards signed by the parish priest is available from the Parish Clerk in the sacristy of Lisdoonvarna Church after every Mass. Designs currently available are for the deceased, for the sick, for blessing in exams and a general Mass bouquet of love and blessing. There is no charge for the cards though a Mass stipend may be offered, if desired, for the support of priests at home and on the missions. The Church’s teaching on the sale of Mass Cards in shops is clear. The following advice is from all the bishops of Ireland, and religious superiors, on the sad and irreverent practice of ‘buying prayers’ in convenience stores and supermarkets. It is important that parishioners and traders would be aware of the mind of the Church on this and so be able to help bring this unworthy commercialisation to an end. “Having signed or stamped Mass Cards for sale to the public in shops and other commercial outlets is a practice that is not approved by the Episcopal Conference, the Major Religious Superiors or the Superiors of Missionary Societies. It undermines a correct Eucharistic Theology and is unacceptable. We ask that this practice, wherever it exists, be discontinued.” The Irish Episcopal Conference Easter Sunday, 20th April 2014 The Word of God this Sunday calls us to the brave humility it takes to share in Jesus’ great Passover from death to life. These days the cold bleak world of winter makes its Passover into light, life and the warmth of spring. The Easter Vigil scriptures reminded us that the people of Israel made their Passover from slavery in Egypt into the liberation of the Promised Land. Jesus makes his cosmic breakthrough Passover from the slab of the tomb into glorified resurrection - even in his human body. All of this calls us to allow ourselves to be ‘Eastered'. Think things over, think things deeply, and pray for the humility it takes to ask for heaven’s power to make the great Passover from darkness, selfishness, secularism and sin into the new life of faith, relationship with Jesus through his body the Church, and the foretaste of resurrection joy even in the here and now of our beautiful - yet difficult - lives here on earth. Let’s not merely observe Christ’s resurrection, let us have the wisdom and humility to actively participate in it. Today is a day for Passover, for fresh starts. A joyful, inner, lasting Easter to you all! The Easter ‘Dues’ collection will be gathered after Holy Communion at all Masses this weekend, with a second opportunity to contribute next weekend. What are the ‘Easter Dues’? The Easter Dues, together with the Autumn and Christmas Dues, are lodged in a special parish account which funds the presence of a priest in our parish. As such, your contribution is a sign of ‘faith-appreciation’ of the presence and ministry of your priest, who receives his diocesan fixed monthly income of 1492, before tax, from this fund. It also helps fund priestly cover for our parish if your priest is sick or on annual leave. Surplus amounts from this ‘Easter dues’ collection, if any, are given to our bishop at the end of the year to provide care for retired and sick priests. I take the opportunity of this collection to thank you so much for your generous support and ongoing encouragement. I will be praying for you and your loved ones at all the Masses of Easter and Eastertide and throughout the whole year. If you have already made your contribution there is, of course, no need to do so again this weekend. Thank you so much for playing your part! A unique youth gathering will take place next week on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 27th, at Ballybrit Racecourse, to celebrate the canonisation of Saint John Paul II and Saint John XXIII. Remembering John Paul’s dramatic and moving words at Ballybrit in 1979 - 'Young people of Ireland, I love you!’ we will reflect on his message, and the meaning for our own lives of his lifetime of witnessing to Christ. After the morning events and Sunday Mass, young people from across our diocese will join a special youth gathering comprising of teachings, music, prayer and faith sharing at 2.00pm. > We also pray for the souls of the following:

Tony Quinn late of Galway, originally of Kilshanny,

beloved son of our parishioner Jim Quinn; Rose French

late of St. Johnston, Donegal, beloved mother of our parishioner Sally Flanagan;

Sister Teresa Thorpe late of UK and member of the Stella Maris community; and

John Fitzgerald late of Chicago, USA, and originally of Lough, Doolin.

May they know the joys of forgiveness, healing and heaven. Families gathered for memorial Masses are asked to

review the parish memorial list a week in advance and

come to the sacristy to let the priest know before Mass if

there are any errors or omissions. Family members are

also encouraged to volunteer to bring the bread and wine

to the altar at the offertory of their family memorial Mass.

A selection of Mass Cards signed by the parish priest is available from the Parish Clerk in the sacristy of

Lisdoonvarna Church after every Mass. Designs currently

available are for the deceased, for the sick, for blessing in

exams and a general Mass bouquet of love and blessing.

There is no charge for the cards - though a Mass stipend

may be offered, if desired, for the support of priests at

home and on the missions.

The Church’s teaching on the sale of Mass Cards in shops is clear. The following advice is from all the

bishops of Ireland, and religious superiors, on the sad and

irreverent practice of ‘buying prayers’ in convenience stores and supermarkets. It is important that parishioners

and traders would be aware of the mind of the Church on

this and so be able to help bring this unworthy

commercialisation to an end.

We ask that this practice, wherever it exists, be discontinued.” - The Irish Episcopal Conference

Our faith teaches us that having Mass offered for our beloved departed, especially on their anniversaries and in the weeks after their death, is a way of expressing our ongoing love for them. It is also a clear witness to our faith in the power of Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection to heal them from sin, liberate them from the grave, and raise them up whole and transfigured for holy

and eternal communion with the Blessed Trinity, Our Lady, the saints and angels in the joy of heaven. This power becomes present before us on the altar of every Mass.

Pope Francis’ Universal Intention for January: That all may promote authentic economic development that

respects the dignity of all peoples.

Pope Francis’ Evangelising Intention for January: That Christians of diverse denominations may walk toward the

unity desired by Christ.

Our Parish’s Intention for this Week: For all our

parishioners seeking the right and dignity of work, and for our

young parishioners who have had to emigrate to find

employment. May they always be kept safe in Christ’s love and in ours.

Father Conor’s Intention for this Week: For all who suffer

hatred, insults, misunderstanding and prejudice in modern

Ireland because of their Catholic faith or their commitment to

the sanctity of human life from its first conception to its natural

end. That they may be blessed with strength and fresh joy.

“Look, there is the Lamb of God that takes away the sin

Easter Sunday, 20th April 2014

The Word of God this Sunday calls us to the brave humility it takes to share in Jesus’ great Passover from death to life. Think things over, think things deeply, and pray for the humility it takes to ask for heaven’s power to make the great Passover from darkness, selfishness, secularism

and sin into the new life of faith, relationship with Jesus through his body the Church, and the foretaste of resurrection joy even in the here and now of our beautiful - yet difficult - lives here on earth.

As such, your contribution is a sign of ‘faith-appreciation’ of the presence and ministry of your priest, who receives his diocesan fixed monthly income of €1492, before tax, from this fund. It also helps fund priestly cover for our parish if your priest is sick or on annual leave. Surplus amounts from this ‘Easter dues’ collection, if

any, are given to our bishop at the end of the year to provide care for retired and sick priests. For more information please contact Maura Garrihy on 091 565066 or [email protected]

a chairde,

The Word of God this Sunday, the

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, calls us to the depth of generosity, humility and contemplation it takes to see that compassionate love is at the heart of our identity and our mission as human beings and as disciples of Jesus. The word ‘compassion’ at its Latin roots means ‘to suffer with’ someone. It describes God’s heart-breaking love for us as he sees us cheapened, damaged and death-bound by the horror of sin. He looks on us, his children, and it pains him. He follows through on that suffering love by becoming one of us as the Word of God, the eternally-begotten Son, becoming Jesus of Nazareth, our anointed-One, our Christ. God’s pain over us crystallises on the cross of Calvary and is vindicated beyond our imaginings and for all eternity in Jesus’ resurrection. The power unleashed by this compassion, this passionate self-emptying divine love, is our pathway back to healing and to a share in God’s own life. The first reading from the book of Deuteronomy teaches us that this new life through the Word of God is near and readily available to us. The psalm teaches us how to pray for this humility to accept it. The second reading from the Holy Spirit to the Colossians and to us, through Saint Paul, points to the cross of Jesus as the total revelation of God’s ‘com-passion’ with us. In the Gospel Jesus implores his followers to live up to the image of God in which they were made by being reckless practitioners of compassionate love to all, especially to those who are most in need. May the Eucharist this weekend give us the graces we need to contemplate these mysteries and to make them present in the world through our thoughts and actions.

Year of Faith Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

This Autumn, from 20th to 28th October, I will lead a Year of Faith pilgrimage to the most sacred sites of salvation history in the Holy Land. We will spend four nights in Jerusalem, visiting Bethlehem, the Temple, the Mount of Olives, Calvary, the Holy Sepulchre, Mount Tabor etc., followed by four nights in Tiberias, exploring Galilee, Nazareth,

Capernaum, Mount of Beatitudes, Cana, the Jordan

river etc. A full spiritual retreat and an introductory scripture

study programme will be offered. The fare is €1,519pps, plus optional insurance of €25. This tour is a little more expensive than others because the hotels and meals etc. are all four-star. In my experience this makes a huge difference to the overall experience of the pilgrimage as the lower grade hotels can be very disappointing. Please let me know if you might be interested and I can send you the full itinerary.

> We pray also for

James Stack

late of Ennistymon and UK, and beloved brother of

our parishioner Marie Canavan.

May he walk in the light of the Lord

in the land of the living.

Our bishop has asked every parish to pray this beautiful and specially composed ‘Prayer

for the Child in the Womb’ at Masses during this time of special intercession:

PRAYER FOR THE CHILD IN THE WOMB

Lord Jesus, you are the source and lover of life. Reawaken in us respect for every human life.

Help us to see in each child the marvellous work of our Creator.

Open our hearts to welcome every child as a unique and wonderful gift.

Guide the work of doctors, nurses and midwives. May the life of a mother and her baby in the womb be equally cherished and respected.

Help those who make our laws to uphold the uniqueness and sacredness of every human life,

from the first moment of conception to natural death.

Give us wisdom and generosity to build a society that cares for all.

Together with Mary, your Mother, in whose womb you took on our human nature, help us to choose life in every decision we take.

We ask this in the joyful hope of eternal life with you, and in the communion of the Blessed Trinity. Amen.

Our Lady of Knock, pray for us! All the Saints of Ireland, pray for us!

Tug of War

Success for The

Burren! Our local Tug Of War team, The Burren, came second in the recent All-Ireland at the 580Kg division in the Senior All Ireland at Lough Arrow, Co. Sligo on July 7th. Congratulations to our parishioners involved; Michael Flanagan, Kieran Flanagan and Micheal Considine.

Contact our leader, Marie Urquhart, 086 8628865, for further information.

NATIONAL VIGIL FOR LIFE - I fully endorse the message below from the non-party-political human rights organisation www.ProLifeCampaign.ie I hope that many from our parish will be free to attend, to courageously witness to the dignity and preciousness of human life:

Praying Scripture with our Bishop Our Bishop, Martin Drennan, is a well-known scripture scholar and director of spiritual retreats. On our diocesan website every week he offers a short incisive reflection on the Sunday Scriptures. You can get it at www.galwaydiocese.ie. At the end of each reflection he poses some questions on the readings for our contemplation and prayer during the week that follows. Here are his pointers for reflecting on this week’s scriptures… !The resurrection means that love is stronger than death. How do I experience that? The more we are like Jesus the more free we are. Where do I notice this?

Sporting and Community News Lisdoonvarna Fáilte News! Clare County Council has picked our entry, The Spa Wells, to represent Clare in the all-island co-operation Ireland, Pride of Place Competition. A New Parish 'Play and Pray' Group? One of the ideas that was discussed at the Parish Pastoral Council recently is the possibility of re-establishing a 'Play and Pray' group for young children in the Lisdoonvarna Church Meeting Room during the first part of Sunday Mass. It worked very well for a time a few years ago and many think it would be welcomed again by families with young children. The idea is that the children would use art, stories and music to have some fun while also learning more about Jesus and about the faith. They might then bring some signs of their work to the altar during the offertory procession and then re-join their families for the Eucharistic Prayer and the rest of Sunday Mass. For this idea to work we would, of course, need some keen and energetic volunteers! Training and materials would be provided. If you think you might be interested in this idea please contact me as soon as you can.

Reaching out in prayer and action to our emigrants? Today is World Day of Prayer for Emigrants and Refugees. We pray for our sisters and brothers who are forced to flee for fear of their lives in nightmare situations like the current horror in Syria. We pray for a world that is more just and a world culture of safety and protection for human beings everywhere. We also pray for economic migrants. A community like ours knows very well the hardship and heartbreak of separation when loved ones are forced to move abroad in search of employment. We pray for our many young parishioners abroad, that the Lord will hold them safe in his love. I wonder if there is some way our worshipping community might reach out to our emigrants with a sign of our remembrance in prayer? Maybe a parish card to be posted to them at St. Patrick’s Day? Maybe a display in Church with their names on a map? Maybe a prayer gathering for families who have loved ones working abroad? Maybe some other idea of yours? If you’d like to be part of any parish project to cherish our emigrants please let me know before the end of January. I’m sure we can come up with a meaningful gesture to let them know that they are in our thoughts and prayers. Have we any engaged couples in our parish who would like to meet with Pope Francis at a special event in Rome on St. Valentine's Day? The Holy Father is hosting this special prayer gathering with couples preparing for marriage. Please let our engaged parishioners know about this event, and that they can contact me for more details. The Second Sunday of Ordinary Time, 19th January 2014

a chairde, The Word of God this Sunday, the Second Sunday of Ordinary Time, is full of reassurance for those who sometimes worry that their faith is a bit rocky and unsure. Twice the great John the Baptist in today’s gospel admits to us that he did not recognise Jesus at first. It took a supernatural ‘pointing’ from above in the descent of a dove to catch the eye of John’s soul and to open it up to really see Jesus right there before him as God made man. John then, in turn, pours out the rest of his life in pointing others to Jesus so that they might really see him deeply, that they might recognise him as the only one who can save them from the death-trap of sin and the sealed-in solitariness of the tomb. If John the Baptist himself needed the ministry of ‘pointing to Christ’ how much more do we need it! Christ’s community, the Church, constantly points to Jesus who is really and truly present among us as we gather for this Eucharist. The Second Vatican Council teaches us that Christ is present in four powerful ways at every Mass: in each person present, in his priest, in his life-giving word of scripture and pre-eminently, really, truly, in his body, blood, soul and divinity in the Most Blessed Eucharist. The Church points to him, but do we really see into the depths of mystery and choose to recognise him? Crucially, do we become ‘Christ-pointers’ for others, that they might know our peace and joy too? Christian Unity Week begins this weekend and continues until January 25th throughout the worldwide Church. Together with Christians of other denominations we reflect on Christ’s dream and prayer ‘that all may be one’. Let’s keep working and praying for deep unity of doctrine, heart, mind and charity. The Annual Ecumenical Liturgy to mark Christian Unity Week will take place in the Chapel of St. Columbanus, NUI, Galway on Friday 31st January at 7.30pm. The theme this year will be 'Moving from regret to hope - an ecumenical reflection'. The principal speaker will be Rev. Helen Freeburn, the new United Methodist-Presbyterian Church minister in Galway. All are welcome! Do This In Memory next Sunday: This programme is an important way of uniting the ministry of parents, teachers and the worshipping community of our parish in preparing our young children to make their First Holy Communion later this year. Next Sunday 26th January is the first Do This In Memory Sunday of 2014. The co-ordinating parent volunteer leaders are gently reminded to look over the resources and creatively adapt them for our liturgies next weekend. Please let me know before next weekend what you have arranged. My thanks and appreciation to all involved!

Next Sunday we celebrate the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. It is a time to celebrate and encourage those who work to help all people to know the liberating joy of a living relationship with Jesus through sharing in the life of his Church. This year’s theme is ‘Catholic Schools: Places of Faith and Learning’, a timely reminder that there is no conflict whatsoever between faith and reason, and that we are all called to use our gifts of science, intellect and art to bring the Good News of Jesus to the world. We pray God’s blessing upon all involved in all four schools of our parish and upon all their varied prayer gatherings and projects for this special week of celebrating their ethos and identity as Catholic Schools. 'A Lenten challenge for single men!’ - The Annual Diocesan Priestly Vocations Workshop is scheduled for 8th March 2014, the first Saturday of Lent. If any single man of any age is interested in attending please let me know and I can give you further details, advice and encouragement! At the moment we have five young men studying for the priesthood for this diocese in our national seminaries in Maynooth and Rome. Please keep them in your prayers. Let’s pray too for many more holy priests for our diocese. In the next few years many of our priests will be retiring after giving their whole lives to the service of the Lord and his people. These need to be replaced by other ordained disciples. A living Church, close to Christ, will surely produce authentic, generous, joyful and holy candidates for the priesthood. When each Catholic is living out his or her baptismal vocation well the Church is renewed and purified. Vocations to holy marriage, holy orders, missionary work and the contemplative life will increase as every Christian grows in faith, hope and love. We pray best for vocations by renewing our own discipleship. Special Diocesan Second Collection next week to help support our Diocesan Pastoral Centre. Your contribution supports youth evangelisation, pastoral bereavement and relationship counselling, teacher support, parenting courses, spiritual direction and faith development throughout our diocese. Thank you for whatever you might be able to contribute. Relying on your prayers, and assuring you all of mine at daily Mass,

Here are his pointers for reflecting on this week’s scriptures... Who are the people who point out Jesus to me? What kind of witness to Jesus would I like to give? Which changes do I find most challenging now in his call to follow him?

“National Vigil for Life - The National Vigil For Life 2014 will take place in Merrion Square, Dublin 2 on 3rd May 2014 from 3.00pm-4.00pm. The Fine Gael party promised voters they would not legalise abortion. They broke that promise. The pro-life movement gave a commitment that it would not sit back and accept this new law. The National Vigil for Life on 3rd May is a clear sign that we will not be breaking our promise. On 3rd May, we will have an opportunity to show that, far from losing heart, we are more committed than ever. This is, truly, a moment in which we have to persevere for what is right. In introducing abortion the Government knew exactly what it was doing and that there was no medical or legal necessity for it. What temptations deflects us from carrying our of mission - popularity, fame? How do we measure success in our mission? Passing on the Gospel as Jesus did?

Teachings of Pope Francis During his general audience on Ash Wednesday, Pope Francis called Lent a moment of renewal which allows us to look at the needs of others with “new eyes,” and to grow in love. “Brothers and sisters: today, Ash Wednesday, begins the Lenten itinerary that leads us to the celebration of the Easter Triduum, a memorial of our salvation.” “Lent,” he affirmed during his weekly address, “is a 'strong' time of conversion,” and a time “to live our baptism with greater profundity.” Speaking to the thousands of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square, the pontiff noted that the 40 days leading up to Easter are a “journey of penance, prayer and conversion” which prepares us “for the Church's annual celebration of the saving mysteries of Christ's passion, death and resurrection.” “In this time we are invited to be more aware of the wonders that the Lord does for our salvation,” the Pope reflected, highlighting how the Church asks us “to ponder with joy and gratitude God's immense love” which is “revealed in the paschal mystery.” Concluding his reflections, Pope Francis prayed that this Lent would “be a time when, as individuals and communities, we heed the words of the Gospel, reflect on the mysteries of our faith, practice acts of penance and charity, and open our hearts ever more fully to God’s grace and to the needs of our brothers and sisters.” “May the Lenten journey we begin today bring us to Easter with hearts purified and renewed by the grace of the Holy Spirit,” he said, inviting all to “invoke with confidence the help of the Virgin Mary.” The Pope asked that she “accompany us in these days of intense prayer and penance, to arrive to celebrate, purify and to be renewed in the Spirit, the great mystery of the Easter of her Son.” !!

Our Bishop, Martin Drennan, is a well-known scripture scholar and director of spiritual retreats. On our diocesan website every week he offers a short incisive reflection on the Sunday scriptures. You can get it at www.galwaydiocese.ie At the end of each reflection he poses some questions on the readings for our contemplation and prayer during the week that follows. Here are his pointers for reflecting on this week’s scriptures... Who are the people who point out Jesus to me? What kind of witness to Jesus would I like to give? Which changes do I find most challenging now in his call to follow him?

First Sunday of Lent, 9th March 2014

a chairde, The Word of God this Sunday, the first Sunday of Lent, gets right to the heart of the central meaning and purpose of our lives so that we can set out on Lent’s spiritual programme of renewal, realignment, decluttering and detoxifying. In the first reading we hear the inner truth behind what the story of

Adam and Eve is trying to teach us, that human beings are handmade individually and personally by God and blessed with the Godlike possibility of finding fulfilment by pouring themselves out in self-giving love. The tragedy though is that human beings abuse their freedom to choose selfishness, sin and the wrecking of God’s dreams.

The second reading teaches us the most excellent news of how God responds to that disaster. He enters into our space and time and flesh and blood as a saviour. As one of us, God’s great self-emptying Yes in Jesus wipes away all of our countless and self-sealed Nos. All we have to do is appropriate that offer of salvation by way of humility, trust and loving service of God and neighbour.

In the Gospel we hear of what a fool Satan is. He tries to tempt Jesus by showing him a lofty view of earth’s kingdoms from the top of a mountain. As if the God who had left behind the glories of heaven itself to swoop inside the frail vulnerabilities of human existence could be tempted by a minor climb up this world’s ridiculous and wobbly social ladder. Our God is a God of self-emptying descent and service. As his children we must accept his grace and power to be the same. Lent is our opportunity to rediscover who we really are and who we can really be. !Good News on Heating Project in Lisdoonvarna Church Much unseen effort has been done by many over the past fourteen months in assessing the best solution to replacing the 60-year-old heating system in Lisdoonvarna Church. All of this work was behind-the-scenes but very necessary in ensuring that the new system will be as modern, efficient, and ecological as a parish of this size can realistically afford. A further concern was to ensure that the project would respect the beauty of our parish Church and be compatible with the requirements of public authorities who protect heritage-listed buildings. Local experts gave freely of their time and expertise by way of advice, and our parish buildings and finance committee have been a great support. A huge help to us was the voluntary assistance of our diocesan financial manager Tom Kilgarriff. In giving us his professional help, free of charge, as Consultant Engineer to this project he has saved our community thousands of euro - in funds that we have yet to raise! I am very grateful to all of the above, and to all of you, our parishioners, for your kind understanding, encouragement and patience.       I am now delighted to announce that the indicative description of the project is now ready for interested contractors. My hope is that works may begin before the end of this month. I will keep you informed on our progress and will also discuss with you around then our plans to raise the funds we will need for this urgent and necessary project. The Sacrament of Confession is at the heart of Lent. As throughout the whole year, there will be an opportunity for a discreet, prayerful and liberating celebration of the Sacrament of Confession after every weekday Mass in the confessional of Lisdoonvarna Church. All are invited to make this crucial and joyful spiritual rebirth and deep preparation for Easter.

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, 14th July 2013

Our faith teaches us that having Mass offered for our beloved departed,

especially on their anniversaries and in the weeks after their death, is a

way of expressing our ongoing love for them. It is also a clear witness to

our faith in the power of Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection to heal them from sin, liberate them from the grave, and raise them up whole and

transfigured for holy and eternal communion with the Blessed Trinity, Our

Lady, the saints and angels in the joy of heaven. This power becomes

present before us on the altar of every Mass.

Families gathered for memorial Masses are asked to review the weekly parish memorial list in advance and come

to the sacristy before Mass if there are any errors or omissions.

Family members are also encouraged to volunteer to bring

the bread and wine to the altar at the offertory of the Mass.

Crucifixion Window, Doolin

A selection of Mass Cards signed by the parish priest is now available from the Parish Clerk

in the sacristy of Lisdoonvarna Church after every Mass.

There is no charge for the cards - though a Mass stipend may be offered,

if desired, for the support of priests at home and on the missions.

late of Ennistymon and UK, and beloved brother of

our parishioner Marie Canavan.

Canonisation of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II

On 27th April Pope Francis will Canonise two of his predecessors, Blessed Pope John XXII and Blessed Pope John Paul II. The 27th of April is the Sunday after Easter Sunday and is also know as Divine Mercy Sunday, celebrating the devotion of the Divine Mercy devotion received by the Polish Saint, St. Faustina, of which Pope John Paul II had a particular devotion. To prepare for this special day let us prayer for the intercession of both the former Popes.

O Blessed Trinity, we thank You for having graced the Church with Blessed John XXIII Blessed John Paul

II and for allowing the tenderness of Your Fatherly care, the glory of the Cross of

Christ, and the splender of the Spirit of love, to shine through them. Trusting fully in

Your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, they have given us a living

image of Jesus the Good Shepherd, and have shown us that holiness is the necessary measure of ordinary Christian life and is the way of achieving eternal communion

with You. Grant us, by their intercession, and according to Your will, the graces we implore,

hoping that he will soon be numbered
