LITURGY OF THE WORD

READING Rachel De Luise (Ecclesiastes 3:2-3)

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:a time to be born and a time to die,a time to plant and a time to uproot,a time to kill and a time to heal,a time to tear down and a time to build,a time to weep and a time to laugh,a time to mourn and a time to dance,a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,a time to search and a time to give up,a time to keep and a time to throw away,a time to tear and a time to mend,a time to be silent and a time to speak,a time to love and a time to hate,a time for war and a time for peace.

A: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Marianne De Luise (Psalm 23)

Response: The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.Response

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.Response

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.Response

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.Response

SECOND READING Raffaele De Luise (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

A reading from the first letter of St Paul to the Corinthians.

Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope and patience never fail. Love is eternal. The Word of the Lord.

A: Thanks be to God.

ACCLAMATION

A: Praise and honour to you, Lord Jesus Christ! If today you hear his voice harden not your heart. Praise and honour to you, Lord Jesus Christ!

GOSPEL Fr Bren Donohue (John 14: 1-6)

C: The Lord be with you.A: And with your spirit.C: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.A: Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled; trust in God still, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house; if there were not, I should have told you. I am going now to prepare a place for you, and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me; so that where I am, you may be too. You know the way to the place where I am going.’

Thomas said ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’

Jesus said: ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’

The Gospel of the Lord.A: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL Bailey & Bella Grace De Luise

C: Gathered in Jesus’ name, we come to accompany into eternity, your servant Mario. May he rest in your eternal peace.

Bailey: The world will never forget, 2020, when COVID-19 caused widespread sickness and death, loss of income and drastic changes to ways of life. We pray that nations and individuals can lead a full recovery. Lord hear us. A: Lord, hear our prayer.

Bella Grace: Pope Francis has encouraged and inspired so many to love the earth, our common home. This echoed with Nonno Mario which he showed in his love of nature, his tending of his own garden, especially the grape vines and the wine he made from them, for his own enjoyment and to share as a gracious host. Lord hear us.A: Lord, hear our prayer.

Bailey: We share the grief of Nonno Mario’s family, Trudy, Anthony, Alison and Michael and their families, mostly so far away, but connected by the wonders of science. With them we rejoice and give thanks for the ways he has loved, cared and supported them. Lord hear us. A: Lord, hear our prayer.

Bella Grace: Mario’s chosen profession needed not only his abundant medical skills, but respect for and empathy with those who came to him for care. With them we give thanks for his kindness and patience. Lord hear us.A: Lord, hear our prayer.

Page 13: In Loving Memory of Mario De Luise - Dubock Funerals€¦ · PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL Bailey & Bella Grace De Luise C: Gathered in Jesus’ name, we come to accompany into eternity,

Bella Grace: We pray for the many health professionals who cared for Mario during his long illness at the Austin, the Olivia Newton John Centre and St. Vincent’s public and private hospitals.

In particular, Professor Hang Quach and Professor Andrew Grigg and the nursing staff on Level 8 of St Vincent’s Private and the chemotherapy Day Unit at St Vincent’s Public. We thank them especially for the respect they showed knowing how well he understood his own condition. Lord hear us.

A: Lord, hear our prayer.

Bella Grace: Mario attained high skills in his medical career by intensivestudy, his own efforts and the support and inspiration of many learned people, especially Professor Jack Martin at The University of Melbourne and Professor Jeff Flier at Harvard. With gratitude, we pray, for them and for what they meant to him.

Lord hear us. A: Lord, hear our prayer.

C: Good and faithful God, in Jesus you made an everlasting covenant of love with us. Bring us new life though your Spirit. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

A: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Farewell by Anne Bronte

Farewell to thee! but not farewellTo all my fondest thoughts of thee:

Within my heart they still shall dwell; And they shall cheer and comfort me.

O, beautiful, and full of grace! If thou hadst never met mine eye,

I had not dreamed a living faceCould fancied charms so far outvie.

If I may ne'er behold againThat form and face so dear to me,

Nor hear thy voice, still would I fainPreserve, for aye, their memory.

That voice, the magic of whose toneCan wake an echo in my breast,

Creating feelings that, alone,Can make my tranced spirit blest.

That laughing eye, whose sunny beamMy memory would not cherish less; --

And oh, that smile! whose joyous gleamNor mortal language can express.

Adieu, but let me cherish, still,The hope with which I cannot part.

Contempt may wound, and coldness chill,But still it lingers in my heart.

And who can tell but Heaven, at last,May answer all my thousand prayers,

And bid the future pay the pastWith joy for anguish, smiles for tears?
