Jewel Gilliam Thomas, 93, was born March 21, 1927. A native of Union County, SC, she was the widow of James Thomas and the daughter of the late Reverend Benjamin Gilliam and Lettie Louise Young Gilliam.
She was a member of Rice Chapel AME Zion Church and a homemaker.
Jewel passed away, Tuesday morning, July 7, 2020 at her residence. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Thomas; one daughter, Edna Ruth Thomas; and eleven siblings.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: two sons, Kenneth (Elmira) Thomas and Charles Lee (Elizabeth) Thomas both of Union, SC; five daughters, Mary Frances Thomas Epps of Union, SC, Julia Ann Gage of Union, SC, Irene (Tony) Harris of Little Rock, AR, Reverend Shirley (Reverend Marshall) Wheeler of Buffalo, SC, and Joyce Crawford of Spartanburg, SC; one brother, Robert Lee Gilliam of Staten Island, NY; one sister, Annie Mae Thomas of Spartanburg, SC; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
