Presidents Report Our first meeting for the year is now behind us, and we all enjoyed the talk by Jacqui Chaplin. Her emphasis on openly speaking about Mind Health again reinforces the issue with community attitudes. Some of our members were challenged with a four corner game, especially the working of the little paper “chatterbox”. Wikipedia has the diagram on how to make one if you are curious. The July 4th Independence theme was organised by Megan & Shirley, and I hope you enjoyed the American treats provided.

A few of you asked where the “Chain of Office” was? Perhaps you should ask Bob as he stopped wearing it about 2 months ago. Nobody noticed!!! It will come out for special occasions, but it is one bit of formality that we will do without for normal meetings. Our new process of the Chair running the quiz and “happy dollars” went well thanks to Geoff. We even branched out into some fines. This Week’s Speaker; Jacqui Chaplin

Topic: Mind Health From Jaqui’s website; “There are key note speakers who entertain, some who educate, and others who inform. Jacqui in-spires! She captures attention, gaining the hearts and minds of audiences with a message that has impact long after the event ends. Jacqui is all about getting each and every one of us to remember and revisit what it's like to play like a child. To inspire us to bounce forward and be more playful and creative for more fulfilling energetic lives with brilliant mental health.

A passionate, fun and playful proponent of play and creativity as inoculators and antidotes to boredom, listlessness and depression. Jacqui introduces peo-ple to new ways of thinking about play and creativi-ty's connection with mental health. With her trade-mark energy and unshakable commitment and in-terest in the human condition, Jacqui loves playing with people and sharing her considerable knowledge and experience, taking her message to an ever-expanding audience exposing the ways to get more play, fun and creativity and be more of who you want to be! With 25 years of learning and development exper-tise and nearly two decades of corporate experi-ence Jacqui’s unique personal take, fascinating his-tory and mastery as a human potential catalyst and play-meister provide a rare combination of talents. Jacqui has an exceptional knowledge base in her area of expertise and her teachings and their appli-cation are well received in the business world.” In 20 minutes we were only able to get a glimpse into Jacqui’s skills and knowledge. However she did make sure that she got her message across. Namely that it's time to make it OK for everybody to talk openly and comfortably about mind health, mood disorders and depression! We all "know" of it however there is still too much

stigma attached to openly talking about mood disor-ders such as depression and manic depression also known as "bi-polar affective disorder". Jacqui runs a company called Play Create Elevate whose Mission is that; It’s OK for adults to play in “child-like” ways It’s OK to talk openly and comfortably about

stress, anxiety and depression Mental health issues have now surpassed musculo-skeletal claims as a Work Cover cost. The national cost of workplace mental health is now $12 billion. Jacqui works with companies to build awareness and tools to help build resilience. Having been diagnosed with a mood disorder for more than 20 years now, she has put together five steps she uses and recommends others check out for surviving and then thriving whilst living with a mood disorder. They are;

1. awareness & acceptance

2. medical advice & guidance

3. therapeutic conversation

4. support of family & friends

5. play & creativity

A large school of mobula rays fades into the wa-ters of Baja, Mexico. “The rays were moving quite fast and it was hard enough keeping up with them from the surface, let alone diving down to take a closer look,”

Mobula rays are often referred to as flying rays due to their fondness for breaching.
