We were all encouraged by well wishes before the show, particularly with the phrase
‘break a leg!’...but do you know where it comes from?
The saying is actually a really positive wish for a great show...not a threat of imminent
injury!
The side curtains in a theatre are known as legs. At the end of a successful show actors come back on stage again and again for their curtain calls, requiring the legs (curtains) to open and close many times; the pressure of repeat opening the curtains can cause them to break...meaning the show was so fantastic
we broke the curtains! Ms Ramrattan
From the moment the Creative Arts Department decided our school production was going to be ‘Oliver’ there has been a buzz of anticipation amongst students (and staff). The
months of rehearsals and commitment to putting on a great show paid off this week...it was showtime! The company of actors, musicians, set painters, film crew and backstagers have put on a show that is phenomenal...dare we say one of the best yet...all three nights
sold out!
Oliver is the last production for seventeen of our Year 13 students, many of whom have been involved in IGS shows since they arrived at school. We will miss the talents and
warmth of this group of young people and we hope they will be back soon to share with us their successes beyond IGS. We know that their support and mentoring of the younger
students means the future of our productions are in safe hands.
Thank you and well done to everyone who has been involved...bravo….you are outstanding!

Life in the workhouse is a miserable place… gruel morning, noon and night...
Oliver...did you just ask for more?
Work at the undertakers is not all it’s cracked up to be...
Dodger by name...Dodger by nature… Oliver’s new family leave a lot to be desired!
The story...
...no spoilers!
Bumble wants to make a quick profit…
Oliver goes on the run, heading for London...and hopes of finding a new family
Who’s in need of a boy? The Sowerberrys!

Can Fagin’s gang fill a void in Oliver’s life?
Will any good come out of Bill and Nancy’s love...or are they doomed?
Will Bumble and
Widow Corney
get their just
desserts?
We’re not going to give away the
ending...there’s still shows left to
go!
If you have seen the show already or have a ticket, you’ll know they were the hottest tickets in town. Look out next week for the
official review.
Will good triumph over evil?
Will Mr Brownlow save the day?

Congratulations to Nisha Cant (10JK), Izzy Weir (10JK), Sophie Dale (10LV), Becky Hadfield (10JB), Abi Prentice (11JLF), Rachel Scott (9PDH), Kirsty McMillan (10MEK) who, as part of the U16 Ben Rhydding Hockey team, will compete in the North of England round of the England Hockey Indoor Championships this Sunday 5th December in Wigan.
If their team is successful, they will progress to the national finals...good luck girls!
Well done to Ella Grech-Cini (8AMB), James Newman (8AMB), Ella Shuttleworth (8AMB) and Spencer Barnes (8LNR) who have all achieved their bronze certificates.
Congratulations to Emma Powell (10JPC) who competed in the first round of the British Tooling Series in Manchester at the weekend. Emma, who once again entered the adult female category, climbed alongside many accomplished, older climbers in the competition. Emma climbed brilliantly and secured second place and now goes on to the next round in Keswick on 13th December. Good luck!

Rotary Club Cooking Competition Well done to our culinary competitors, Maxim Dale (11JLF), Holly Ramsey (11JLI) and Charlotte Whittaker Pitts (11JLI) who took part in the local heat of the national cooking competition at Craven College.
The judges commented on the enthusiasm of the competitors who displayed excellent skills and levels of presentation. A special mention goes to Charlotte Whitaker Pitts who came a close second with her chicken stuffed with feta and spinach wrapped in prosciutto served with steamed asparagus, fondant Sweet potato and basil sauce. For dessert she served an exquisite milk chocolate and strawberry fraisier.
Well done to all.
Charlotte Whittaker-Pitts (11JI)
Congratulations to Niamh Maroney (11HGW) who entered the Colne Luther Greenwood Memorial Music Festival on Saturday 28th November in a number of singing classes. Niamh competed in four classes in the age group 15 to 18 years.
Class M23 Junior Solo up to and including age 16: Niamh sang ‘Caro Mio Ben’ (Giordani), finishing a very good second in a high standard class. Class M28 Junior British Composer up to and including age 18: Singing ‘Five Eyes’ Niamh came a close second to an excellent winner from Lothersdale. Class M26 Junior Folk Song up to and including age 18: Niamh’s strongest class, having won in the Skipton Festival 4 years running, she performed ‘I Must and I Will’, a humorous folk song about a lady trying to find love with no luck. Niamh finished second for a third time in the day. It was very close one to call for the adjudicator. Class M30 Junior Songs from the Shows/Musical/Film: Niamh performed ‘The Sweetest Sounds’ from Cinderella (Rodgers and Hammerstein) and came third.
It was a long day of performing at a high standard competition and Niamh was delighted to receive Distinction grades in her first three classes ...not a bad for a day’s work!
