“In Christ”What the Bible says

And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross Colossians 1:18-20 (NIVUK)

“In Christ”4 Key Points

1. Character comes before anything else

2. We’re given the gifts we need3. Serving develops maturity4. We’re in this together – we are

not alone

Page 11: “In Christ” “Living out Faith In Christ – Maturity”

“In Christ”Character comes first

God invests in our character more

than our abilities Questions to ask

• What areas of my character are in need of a make-over?

• Which aspects do I find difficult? • What excuses am I making? Be completely humble and gentle; be patient,

bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through

the bond of peace.

“In Christ”We’re given the gifts we need Gifts are given! Questions to ask

• Where can I help?• What needs are there that I can see?• Why do I avoid getting involved?

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and

teachers, to equip his people

Page 15: “In Christ” “Living out Faith In Christ – Maturity”

“In Christ”Serving develops maturity Questions to ask

• What are the works of service I am being equipped for?

• How am I developing them? • Who am I asking to get alongside me?

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and

become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Page 16: “In Christ” “Living out Faith In Christ – Maturity”

“In Christ”We’re in this together

Questions to ask• Who am I supporting – physically,

practically, prayerfully?• Who am I prepared to allow support me

when necessary?• What part of the body am I attached to?

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the head,

that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held

together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does

its work.
