Dear Friends, The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is on Thursday, December 8th, a holy day of obligation. Masses on December 8th are at 9am (School Mass), 6pm, and 7:30pm (Spanish). The Immaculate Concep-tion is also the Patron saint of the United States. Below is a brief his-tory and devotion of this feast. Immaculate Conception is the title given to Mary that celebrates her con-ception free from original sin. Pope Pius IX proclaimed the Immaculate

Conception a dogma of the Church on December 8, 1854. “The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a sin-gular grace and privilege of almighty God, and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin.” He sited Genesis 3:15 where God told the serpent, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and her seed.” The Church understands this to mean that this woman would never be under the power of sin. Mary would forever be in that exalted state of grace which the serpent had destroyed in man. Her continual union with grace explains her enmity with the serpent. Therefore, the Church believes that Mary was not only conceived without sin but also free of sin throughout her life. In Luke 1:28, theologians believed that the angel Gabriel’s greeting which translates, ‘Hail, full of grace:, meant that Mary was fully favored and filled with an abundance of grace. God’s grace kept her free from sin throughout her life. God chose her from the begin-ning to be the mother of Jesus and thus, made her worthy and without sin. In 1858, in Lourdes, France, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous eighteen times. During one of the apparitions, Our Lady told Bernadette to tell the priests to have a chapel built and processions held there. The priest told Bernadette to ask the lady her name. Mary responded, “I am the Immac-ulate Conception.” Here are our coming events: Sunday, November 27th: First Sunday of Advent, the beginning of our new Church Year

THE OUR LADY OF LORETTO HELPING HANDS

CHRISTMAS OUTREACH 2016 IS UNDER-WAY!

During Advent, our Church family shares many tra-ditions that help us to welcome Jesus into our hearts at Christmas. One of these traditions is the Helping Hands Christmas Outreach. Again this year we have committed to help families in need celebrate the birth of Christ as we all do, with good food, gifts, and the comfort of knowing there are people that care about us. It’s easy to be part of this compassionate outreach. Our Giving Trees are up in all the entrances to the Church. Please take an envelope from one of the Giving trees and return it to the secure mail slot at the Rectory, along with your gift of store gift cards, cash or check payable to Our Lady of Loretto Help-ing Hands Christmas Outreach. Please indicate the amount of your donation clearly on the outside of the gift card. Our deadline for donations is Wednesday, Decem-ber 14, 2016.

For your convenience, Helping Hands volunteers will be at the church entrances after each mass this weekend to accept your donations. Thank you for helping us to share the true spirit of Christmas with those in need.
