Sponsored by: Industrial and Financial Mathematics Research Group, Institut Teknologi Bandung, will host the Industrial Mathematics Week (IMW 2010), during 28 th June - 2 nd July 2010. This workshop is part of the Mathematics DAAD Network (sponsored by DAAD) between TU Kaiserslautern (Germany), IIT Chennai (India), University KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) and ITB (Indonesia). The aim of IMW 2010 is to create a mutually beneficial link between researchers in industry and academic mathematicians. It will provides the necessary opportunities for intensive study periods in which industry practitioners and academic researchers work together towards solving various challenging problems from physical/technical sciences and industry with a mathematical content. Participants leaded by our modeling experts from domestic and abroad will take part in real world problem solving arising form industries, environments, government offices and laboratories. Results from these problems will be presented at the end of the week. The desired outputs of the IMW are the solutions of the observed problems and the list of new challenging questions which could be formulated for further research problems. The following problems will be tentatively discussed during the IMW2010: 1. Problems in the water distribution network in a municipal water company. 2. Control strategy for epidemic transmission of Lymphatic Filariasis. 3. Scheduling problems in a chartered flight company. 4. Electronic waste management. 5. Prevention of the gas condensation within the riser (oil pipes) in the deep seawater. 6. Ineffectiveness impact caused by the organic sedimentation and metal corrosion on the machinery of a water management plan.

IIIIndustrial and Financial Mathematics Research Group, Institut Teknologi

Bandung, will host the Industrial Mathematics Week (IMW 2010), during 28th

June - 2nd

July

2010. This workshop is part of the Mathematics DAAD Network (sponsored by DAAD) between

TU Kaiserslautern (Germany), IIT Chennai (India), University KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) and

ITB (Indonesia).

The aim of IMW 2010 is to create a mutually beneficial link between researchers in industry and

academic mathematicians. It will provides the necessary opportunities for intensive study

periods in which industry practitioners and academic researchers work together towards

solving various challenging problems from physical/technical sciences and industry with a

mathematical content.

Participants leaded by our modeling experts from domestic and abroad will take part in real

world problem solving arising form industries, environments, government offices and

laboratories. Results from these problems will be presented at the end of the week. The

desired outputs of the IMW are the solutions of the observed problems and the list of new

challenging questions which could be formulated for further research problems.

TTTThe following problems will be tentatively discussed during the IMW2010:

1. Problems in the water distribution network in a municipal water company.

2. Control strategy for epidemic transmission of Lymphatic Filariasis.

3. Scheduling problems in a chartered flight company.

4. Electronic waste management.

5. Prevention of the gas condensation within the riser (oil pipes) in the deep

seawater.

6. Ineffectiveness impact caused by the organic sedimentation and metal

corrosion on the machinery of a water management plan.

SSSSince 1998, Industrial Mathematics Group at ITB has a well-known history in organizing of

successful Industrial Mathematics activities in Indonesia. The activities include Mathematical

Modeling course & projects, industrial problem solving & simulation, and modeling

competitions. The workshop IMW 2010 offers great opportunities for university staff and

graduate & undergraduate students to deal with various challenging real world problems. With

this activity we want to promote Industrial Mathematics, and related aspects of mathematical

modeling, for various reasons:

• research of this origin gives a direct contribution to the technological development of

the country, in line with national policy;

• contacts with society stimulates interdisciplinary activities at our Mathematics network

and makes it possible to promote mathematics, give it a better image, attract better

students and open larger job markets for mathematics graduates;

• the proposed activities will improve and enhance the quality of the mathematics

programs
