This is a very basic plain language guide how to make an item that you can then put on IMVU for sale if you wish, or just use as practice.

We will be making a standing / sitting spot.

By the end of this guide you will be able; PART 1 - DRAW A SHAPE IN SKETCHUP PART 2 - EXPORT IT FROM SKETCHUP PART 3 - CONVERT IT USING THE SKETCHUP TO IMVU CONVERTER PART 4 - IMPORT IT IN TO PREVIEWER

Before we start make sure you have the correct tools for the job. Previewer SketchUp - I personally use version 6 and this guide uses version 6 SketchUp to IMVU converter Google Earth Plug in for SketchUp All software can be found in the appropriate thread of my IMVU group. http://imvu.com/groups/group/SINTEK/ This is how I actually create items for IMVU, all software is the software I actually use, and during the creation of this guide as you will see I actually created the rug.

There are possibly better and easier ways to create items for IMVU and I am sure other people will have various ways to achieve the same result, but all I can do is tell you how I personally do it. If for some reason this guide does not work for you then I apologise. Thank you for taking the time to read this guide and I do hope you have found it useful. Thanks

PART 1 - DRAW A SHAPE IN SKETCHUP

a. Start / open sketchup

b. Choose to use the circle drawing button

c. Draw a tiny circle on the floor d. Do not texture or paint it, leave it alone

e. Now use the select tool

f. Click on the little man and delete him, we don’t need him

g. Still with the same select tool draw a square around your circle or go to edit and select all

h. So your circle is now selected

i. Right click on your circle a menu appears, choose Make Component

j. A box will now appear, change the Compoinent#1

to

seat01.Standing

VERY IMPORTANT, IT MUST BE EXACTLY AS SHOWN, IT IS CASE SENSATIVE

TO MAKE A SITTING SPOT AT THIS POINT ENTER

seat01.Sitting

This has now turned your circle in to a standing sitting spot component, depending on what you chose to enter from above

PART 2 - EXPORT IT FROM SKETCHUP

a. Now to file, export, 3d model

b. Save as a Google Earth kmz file not a Goole earth KMZ version 4

c. A summary screen will pop up just click ok

PART 3 - CONVERT IT USING THE SKETCHUP TO IMVU CONVERTER

a. Open the sketchup to imvu converter

b. Click the button convert one, find the file you just exported and choose where you want the converted ones to be saved too

The converter will do its stuff and…

because we did not ad a texture it has only made a xmf – m = mesh

xsf – s = standing, sitting, spots, special

PART 4 - IMPORT IT IN TO PREVIEWER

Because you have made a shape which is effectively a piece of furniture, a circle which is a standing spot for example as it is a square or rectangle

placed on the floor derive from the Crate By IMVU pid 13041 http://www.imvu.com/shop/product.php?products_id=13041

Click from derive from this product, as you would do normally.

Your previewer will download the crate.

Now we need to import the files that were converted from the SketchUp to IMVU converter into previewer.

You will be using the Geometry and Special tabs.

a. First go to Geometry.

b. Click Browse and find where you saved the files that were converted using the SketchUp to IMVU converter, load the xmf file.

c. Now go to the special tab, again as previously load the corresponding file which in this case is the xsf that was converted and press APPLY.

d. Save your new standing spot to a new file name,

Done.
