Mali from Takoradi) rent-free period as against 7 days for local cargo
30 per cent rebate on tariff for transit cargo
10% rebate on port dues for transit
Speedy exit of loaded transit trucks to Transit Truck park for final processes
IMPROVING PORT ACCESS
• Used to have 10 Transit Sheds but now reduced to 5 sheds to make way for increasing container activity
• Many newly developed transit sheds around the port
• Takoradi has 4 transit sheds of 15,528sq. m

CHALLENGES
• Lack of uniform implementation of axle load policy in the sub-region
• Low-containerisation of cargo • Numerous checkpoints • Inability of importers to clear cargoes in time • Delays at transit truck park partly due to STDs
and advanced money for drivers – congestion problems
• Seeking funding for the development of rail connections from port to hinterland
Long term Development Strategy • Expanding Takoradi Port to meet the Short-to
Medium term needs of Business.
• Expanding Tema Port to meet National Traffic growth, Transhipment and Transit Trade demand
• Develop a Third Port for Deep Sea Vessels to meet demands of National and regional economic development.
